  • It is time to turn the ground and get ready for the gardening season. It is always difficult to get the right parts on old equipment and this time was no exception. I got the job done and plowed the field in spite of set backs. I look forward to getting seed in the ground and watching them grow!!

Hey Yankee! Great video. Here is a bit of information for your viewers. You did indeed replace the shins, but the other part your replaced in the "landside" not landslide...a very common mistake. The part you are trying to protect with the wear parts is the "frog". The plow bolts you needed for the landside are #3 Head Plow Bolts, typically Grade 5. They come in various sizes, 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", etc. and in various lengths. Plow bolts can be obtained cheaply through Agri-Supply, fastenal, etc. Sometimes you need Clipped Head Plow Bolts. One good way of removing plow bolts is to weld the heads to the wear part you are replacing and then torque off the nuts. This keeps the bolt from spinning and often just snaps the bolt off...also avoids the use of a torch near the frog. Agri-Supply and Shoup Parts are good places to check for common plows like yours. It looks very much like a Ford or Dearborn Plow. BTW, your plow is also a "Trip Plow" which means it has moving parts wear the "standard" can trip back if your "share" hits a big obstruction like a rock. The joint between the trip and the standard should be checked and lubricated every season.
