江戸時代中期、不漁だったときに大漁を祈願したのが潮神楽の始まりだといわれ、毎年1月11日に新しい年の豊漁と海の安全を祈願して材木座海岸で行われる神事です。
砂浜に笹のついた青竹を四方に立てて縄を張り、海に向かって祭壇をつくり、魚などの海の幸、野菜やミカンなどの山の幸、御神酒などを供え、釜に潮を汲んでわかす湯立神楽（鎌倉神楽）が奉納されます。
大町の八雲神社の神主が祝詞をあげ、四方に向かって矢を射て邪気を払います。別の神主が天狗の赤面や黒面をつけて神楽を舞った後、見物人に向かってミカンを投げます。

It is said that Shio Kagura began in the mid-Edo period when people prayed for a good catch during a poor catch, and it is a Shinto ritual held on January 11 every year at Zaimokuza Beach to pray for a good catch and safety at sea in the new year.
Green bamboo with bamboo leaves is set up on the sandy beach on all four sides and ropes are stretched across it, an altar is made facing the sea, and offerings are made of seafood such as fish, mountain produce such as vegetables and mandarin oranges, sacred sake, etc., and Yutate Kagura (Kamakura Kagura) is performed by boiling seawater in a kettle.
The priest of Yakumo Shrine in Omachi recites a prayer and shoots arrows in all four directions to ward off evil spirits. Another priest wears a red or black Tengu mask and performs the Kagura dance, then throws mandarin oranges to the spectators.
