I'm only now coming to the realization that I'm going to spend the rest of my life celibate because my husband and I were divorced when I was only 19. I'm 53 now. He is remarried. I am not. Only this year I have come to Jesus and have been reading the bible. I can't put it down. I'm heartbroken and saddened to realize my sins over the years. This year was my awakening and I have been on my knees crying in prayer....to the point of anguish! I will give Him the rest of my life joyfully but to realize I have to live without a mate kinda makes me sad.....but it's not about me anymore. The scripture is very clear on this! By the grace of God I'm still here for the chance to stand holy before my heavenly Father! Brief versus eternal...remember that! I am so thankful for all we've been given. I'm still going through shock at this revelation though.....

You are no longer bound. Besides,
and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife, 3 and if the latter husband [b]turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, 4 then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.

But HER love failed because she isn't born from above, born of love.

@@grateful1929May God help you and your partner ! I am afraid you did not remarry any one... you committed adultery like your departed husband and called it "remarriage" and went down to his level in sexual sin. You have set a poor example to your children who now think divorce and remarriage adultery vengeance is normal and justified when they get married one day and have a prooblem. You get one chance at family. Divorce and remarriage adultery does not work. I am sure if you have not found out already, you will find out in time. Maybe when your estate is frustrated with divisions of assets, maybe when disgruntled children wont visit you in a nursing home one day. Perhaps when a jealous X husband takes out your new adultery partner. We see this in broken families all the time. I invite you to scour my you tube channels where I have debunked false "exemption" clauses for divorce. I take a more hard line approach than Dr Piper. I am with David Pawson. It is 100% pure adultery to remarry after divorce and you are in danger of hell's fire to live in it perpetually without repentance. I don't care if you a pastor or an elder in some evangelical church and legalistically tithe 10%. WE NEED TO FEAR GOD again. 10 Virgins were called, only 5 made it! Like pilgrims progress, many will fall short on that day. I write this in all love because I deeply care about people caught up in the false teaching and have made it a focus to teach sound doctrine on this to every one who will hear. My own brother did the same thing and we are currently not on speaking terms. It is a sick divisive issue and there is no sugar coating it.

This all seems very legalistic to me! I believe every word of scripture and realize God is holy but I believe Christ death on the cross is finished work and covers all sins. I realize God hates divorce! And I'm familiar with the gospel teachings concerning divorce. I recall the woman at the well having five husbands and Jesus forgave her! The woman caught in the act of adultery was faced with stoning and Jesus told her accusers that those without sin cast the first stone. In other words all those people holding stones had a legalistic mindset but couldn't live under it's application. Legalism is something you have to be careful of folks because you too can't live under it's application. To say someone who gets divorced because their spouses runs off with someone else should honor the marriage by staying lonely the rest of their days is an indirect reading of the gospel. If it's ok to remarry when a spouse passes, what about when the marriage itself dies?

    • @juliannamarcus
      @juliannamarcus 8 років тому +10

We see dead marriages resurrect all the time that's why 1 cor 7 39 says remarriage is only allowed after death. Even if the spouse departs let him go becsuse how do you know if you will save your wife or husband? If you were free to remarry why would this verse refer to them as your wife or husband? 1 cor 7 is clear "if you leave remain unmarried." Jesus told the woman to "go and son no more" --- not continue in her adulterous marriage or fornication.

Understanding what the Bible REALLY says about divorce is almost impossible unless you're familiar with Hebrew terms and concepts absent in Christianity, such as 'Agunah'. Time and again, I've found that Christian pastors often miss the true teachings of the Bible on this topic. I highly recommend Dr. Eitan Bar's short book, "Christian and Divorced: What the Bible REALLY Says About Divorce & Remarriage." He is a Jewish-Christian fluent in Hebrew. After reading about 20 different books on the subject, this one stands out as the best. I was even an early reader of it.

If you listen to all Piper’s video on “Divorce and Remarriage” you will hear that Piper’s commentary is the exact opposite of what Paul and Jesus had to say about divorce and remarriage, especial at timeline (57:52 through 1:06)
John Piper states that when a new covenant is made, no matter if it’s your 2,3,4th marriage, you should honor that 4th marriage as a new covenant and that it is purified before God. (so lets just give the word “covenant” a worldly definition shall we).
Piper is interpreting the story with the woman at the well as a modern-day excuse to have 5 husbands. Under the Mosaic Law yes, but now Jesus says "it has been said (Mosaic Law)" as opposed to "but I say to you." (from the beginning it was not so) Mat 19:8.
Because of the hardness of Men’s hearts Moses gave protection to the woman to be married again as she had no other means to support herself after being divorced and removed from the house. The Mosaic law permitted her to marry again but not go back to a previous husband.
Piper furthermore says at timeline 59:11 I think that a couple who “repents” and seeks God’s forgiveness should not think of their marriage as ongoing adultery.
Well then, I have some good news for all my homosexual friends who want to stay in their relationships all the while considering themselves Christians even holding down leadership positions in the church. If repentance means I can feed my old nature and thus God forgives me then why should I come out of it?
Oh, but some Christian circles say that being married multiple times and homosexuality is not the same. God will forgive my multiple marriages but not same sex marriages. Go figure?

@@debbieann3883 Thx, I'm reminded of Mat 5 the example that Jesus gives in goes contrary to what many have formulated regarding repentance. In this passage Jesus firmly ties the actions of the eye, and the hand, needing to be “cut off” in order to gain entrance in the kingdom of God.
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
In this story we have the lust of the eye and the actions of the hand, both represent sin and needing to be severed. It amazes me so-called Christians living in adulterous remarriages think they are excused form actual repentance. Go-figure.

There was polygamy in Israel in the OT (before the Law of Moises) and God never rebuked it because they were living outside of the Law. The gentiles were also living outside of the Law. They can't undone what they did in the past if it's going to dishonour their current marriage which is now sanctified by their conversion (1Corinthians 7:14). They have to repent for their unholy covenants and honour their current marriage. I'm single, so this issue doesn't affect me. I'm just trying to find the truth.

Anyway after 21 Years it escalated and my ex husband sent me away and filed divorce 6 months later. I did not hear from the Lord to consent to divorce I just separated and believed and hoped for him to repent and be saved and be reconciled to me. But Alas two years after our separating during the pending court case he slept with another woman then I knew God said let go of him and consent to the divorce. it was devastating and as John Piper discribes it a very deep pain..... it took me 10 Years to receive healing and wholeness through my Lord and Saviour and then I was put in a situation into deep temptations drawn to another unbeliever a man who was my mentor and work mate at my new job place (thank God I knew he was in a relationship and that there is no chance of us coming together ever so I struggled and resisted with fasting anguish and prayers almost four years, when GOD set me free from all those desires. It took almost dying resisting unto death to overcome this. I still am not remarried but my heavenly FATHER has filled this void place with HIS love and a very satisfying task. I live for HIM in HIM and through HIM. Praise GOD. Whether HE has someone for me or not I am perfectly content with what HE has given me in HIM to do.

I agree...when he brings up the woman at Jacobs well....I didn't agree with what he said about it....if you read the chapter, you would understand that the ONLY reason why Jesus brought up the 5 husband's was to show her that He was the Messiah by revealing He knew about all of her actions that she has done here on Earth prior to meeting Him.. ...doesn't necessarily mean He accepted those marriages or blessed them...He was just acknowledging HER actions to help her realize WHO HE WAS and she guessed right after that He was a prophet then He told her.... And the word ADULTERY means sexual relations between a spouse and a person OUTSIDE of marriage....sooo.... If God saw and accepted 2nd 3rd 4th marriages which also means they are "spouses within said marriages" .... How is it adultery???? It's adultery because the only marriage COVENANT God sees and accepts is the first one HE PUT TOGETHER!!! He said no man shall separate!!!! That would include the man made civil laws, no judge in a courtroom, no lawyer or any human cannot break what HE PUT TOGETHER... ONLY HE CAN BREAK IT!!!! He gives the only exception and that's if only the woman was unfaithful, then the man can divorce and put away His wife.

Understanding 1 Corinthians 7:39 within context.
The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
Where does the idea of indissoluble marriage come from? That supposition comes from pastors who suggest an isolated interpretation of 1 Cor. 7:39 and Romans 7:2,3. Some of these pastors formed the Permanence of Marriage Movement. An organization that any Christian would want to be a part of if not for false suppositions in their teaching. There are a few biblical passages these men (and women) count on for their convictions. We are to believe that the whole of scripture which speaks of divorce and remarriage as effective must be understood with their interpretation of these passages. We must ignore the context and except their interpretation. This is a way to reprogram your thinking about those verses. Which is what happens to those who follow the false suppositions of these Teachers.
The Bible never makes the argument that divorced and remarried individuals are “still married to their original spouse.” That’s not what Jesus or Paul or any other biblical author claimed. The idea of “indissoluble marriage” is a false supposition imposed on scripture by isolating 1 Cor. 7:39 and Romans 7:3 from there context. Divorce and remarriage are spoken of in scripture as effective events. Therefore divorce effects a divorce or the status of being UNMARRIED as the Apostle Paul himself explicitly states in 1 Cor. 7:11.
In context 1 Cor. 7:39 is addressing virgins. Paul has already addressed the previously married (v. 8,9) and the presently married (10). He now addresses those never married, those who anticipate marriage. Paul has a change of address in verse 25 of 1 Cor. 7 “Now concerning virgins” and he ends in verse 39 stating the general principle God ordained for MARRIED women.
Contextually verses 34 and 35 are extremely important for understanding verse 39. That’s because Paul wants virgins to consider the freedom singleness offers verses a lifetime obligation to a husband. If you miss that point you’ll be susceptible to believe a re-contextualizing of the text. There is nothing in 1 Cor. 7:39 that says a UNMARRIED woman is bound to her former husband as long as he lives. That is a false supposition imposed on that verse as well as Romans 7:2.
One should note that Paul in verses 25 through 40 is addressing singleness over against marriage and is not claiming that only physical death can end a marriage, that’s not the context. Rather, Paul is reminding the virgin that marriage imposes a lifetime obligation. He wants her (as well as a man) to consider the option of singleness. Singleness provides more freedom to serve Christ than a MARRIED WOMAN who is under the dominion of her husband, the contingency of divorce is NOT under discussion. In this text we should understand Paul to be speaking to virgins about the obligations they will experience if MARRIED.
“Bound” is in reference to the obligation set forth “by the law.” “bound” speaks to the status of a MARRIED WOMAN under the dominion of her husband. This section of scripture reminds those who are considering marriage the extra obligations of marriage. Paul reminds the virgin the obligation she will be under IF MARRIED. Therefore she will not have the liberty of singleness, rather she will be under more obligations as a MARRIED woman. It specifically reminds the virgin if she marries she will be under the dominion of her husband until his death. The CONTEXT is about singleness offering more liberty to serve Christ then those with the dual responsibility of having a spouse, understand?
Conversely the text does not address the contingency of divorce. Paul is not promising a virgin that her husband will never divorce her. Nor does he say a divorced woman is still married to her former husband. Those are false suppositions imposed on this text, understand? Paul has already explicitly stated that a divorced woman is UNMARRIED (v.11).
Marriage has inherent principles so marriage imposes law, law imposes bondage, but the law nor the bondage can maintain a marriage. In other words the people involved are responsible for doing that, the law does not fulfill the obligation for them. What you must understand about this “law” is that it is an age old principle in marriage that dates back to the garden of Eden or the origin of marriage itself, but like all laws it is not inviolable. Again law does NOT fulfill the obligation for the individuals it merely sets the obligation forth, understand? So if Christians want to talk about divorce they should look to biblical precedents for answers and NOT FALSE suppositions impose into a text.
All through the Old Testament divorce rendered one UNMARRIED. That reality did not change in the New Testament as Paul affirms in 1 Corinthians 7:11. Also “divorce” and “marry another” as spoken by Christ meant a divorced woman was unmarried and then married to someone else. The explicit language means that one marriage ended and another one was constituted.
While the bible reveals the inadvertent consequences of divorced and remarriage, it always speaks of those events as effective. In other words there is nothing in 1 Cor. 7:39 that says a married woman can’t be unmarried or a divorced woman is “still married” to her former husband. Those are false suppositions imposed on that verse as well as Romans 7:2.
If Christians want to know how divorce affects inherent laws of marriage they should look to Moses, Jesus and Paul’s teaching. All three representatives of God reveal to us the consequence of ending a marriage, but they never teach that marriage cannot end. It is one thing to say what happens by prematurely ending a marriage, it’s quite another to claim the marriage can’t end.

In God's Word divorce terminates one marriage and remarriage constitutes another. The end result is it causes one to commit adultery against their former spouse (Mark 10:11) because that marriage set forth the obligation of lifetime fidelity (to each the other) which is inadvertently violated by the present obligation as husband and wife.
In other words the exclusive obligation established by the first marriage of "forsaking all others and keeping only unto thyself" is inadvertently violated by ending one marriage and constituting another.
While the bible reveals there is a consequence for prematurely ending a marriage it NEVER claims that divorce or remarriage is ineffective. Those remarried were obligated to their present spouse and NOT their former. Telling them to divorce their present spouse causes them to sin because they default on present marital obligations as husband and wife. Blessings

And I just realized when you mention the wife being divorced is “unmarried.” Didn’t even notice that before.
      .
So what is your view on this? Do you believe there are two exceptions for divorce as Jesus gave? Is it biblical to divorce and remarry in these cases?
So if I understand you correctly, adultery happens because of a new covenant of marriage stops one from committing to the 1st covenant right? Not necessarily because of the sleeping with the new spouse.?
Also what do you understand would be examples of a unbelieving spouse deserting a believing spouse. Would beating someone half to death, or trying to kill them, or just leaving and living their life somewhere else count as desertion?
And also are Christians who remarried in an unbiblical manner perpetually sinning and headed to hell? Or is the “adultery” mentioned in this topic a one time sin when they remarried?

    • @nealdoster8556

@@palee8928 Grace to you Pa Lee
You ask, "So what is your view on this? Do you believe there are two exceptions for divorce as Jesus gave? Is it biblical to divorce and remarry in these cases?"
The following will be my view. But first I'll say that I followed the "two exceptions" for most of my life. But now I see Jesus' teaching to be for a different purpose and much more simpler to understand if you don't get caught up in "reasons".
The traditional argument in which your questions are asked assumes that Jesus was answering the Pharisees question about "lawful grounds for divorce" (Matthew 19:3). Trying to answer those questions keeps you from understanding the simplicity of Jesus' response.
Jesus instead choose to reveal what conceding divorce (in biblical history) causes for the next marriage. The right question in understanding Jesus' teaching on the matter is, Can conceding divorce where remarriage was graciously allowed yield "fidelity to one person for life"?
The question the Pharisees ask is actually a "curve ball" to be avoided. That's because Jesus is NOT actually answering their question, He's revealing that allowing marriages to end before death (divorce) carries a consequence for the next marriage. After the biblical divorce concession there was an unintentional unfaithfulness that followed because the first marriage was not sustained. STOP!!. Do you get that?
That was what Jesus wanted to get across to them.
In CONTEXT to Jesus teaching He is explaining something to Israel about divorce they had failed to perceive. Allowing marriages to end before death where remarriage was permitted under the law (Deuteronomy 24:2) does not maintain the sexual exclusivity of the relationship ordained for marriage in the origin (Matthew 19:4-6, 8b). There is an inadvertent transgression of "fidelity for life" caused by the process.
Jesus states, "Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so" (Matthew 19:8). Jesus is contrasting divorce conceded over against God's created design for marriage, understand?
The simple point Jesus made was that divorce in the origin did not exist because in the beginning marriage was created for life. In that relationship sexual intimacy was exclusive to each the other for a life time, do you see that?
In order to understand Jesus' actual response you must begin with that fact. Hundreds of years later divorce was conceded under the law, causing the catch 22 Christians now grapple with. A true paradox to be embraced, not discarded!!!
So in principle, if in God's design for marriage husband and wife are to be sexually exclusive to each the other for life, what occurs when the first marriage ends prematurely and another marriage is graciously and lawfully allowed?
Is sexual exclusivity set forth by (the first) marriage maintained?
Well the answer to that question is that "the fidelity for life principle" is unintentionally transgressed. Thus causing the inadvertent adultery Jesus described.
This way of committing adultery was not made an issue of or punished BECAUSE it was not intentional. Jesus is merely making a counter argument against divorce for those who wanted to know all the reasons the law allowed for it (Matthew 19:3). The key to understanding Jesus' teaching on divorce is in understanding that He did NOT actually answer the Pharisees question about "grounds". Rather He circumvented that question and instead revealed the consequence that ensues from a marriage NOT being sustained.
There is no win win in divorce. We as Christians must accept that fact. Even those women who were divorced by their husbands throughout the time period to which Jesus refers were caused to commit adultery when they lawfully remarried (Matthew 5:32). Fortunately Jesus also reveals that He held the husband (who did the divorcing) culpable for causing her to commit adultery this way.
You ask, "So if I understand you correctly, adultery happens because of a new covenant of marriage stops one from committing to the 1st covenant right? Not necessarily because of the sleeping with the new spouse.?"
The answer to those questions are not either/or but rather a both/and, understand?
Although the adultery happens within the second marriage, it was staged by the former husband releasing his wife with the right of remarriage (Deuteronomy 24:2). Divorce conceded and remarriage graciously allowed cannot yield fidelity for life (to one person) as God designed marriage to be. We MUST accept this dilemma, while NOT going over the deep end like Pastors and Teachers who create a new narrative for understanding Jesus' teaching on this issue.
Their position has a number of false suppositions added to Jesus' teaching. One of those suppositions claims that Jesus "abrogated" the law of Moses. Supposedly, Jesus meant to prohibit remarriage and now equates it as the adultery. You might have notice this in their refrain "remarriage is adultery". A common but false misnomer.
Their position (unlike Jesus') becomes an attack on marriage after divorce. Jesus' teaching on the other hand was NOT an attack on remarriage, but rather to reveal that divorce is what stages this way of committing adultery. Think about it, if the first marriage was sustained, this way of committing adultery would not occur, right?
The underlining thought to Jesus' teaching is this. Terminating a marriage before death (where remarriage was allowed) transfers the obligations of intimacy (sleeping with the new spouse) to the present marriage which then (inadvertently) violates the obligation of being one-flesh with one person for life, set forth by the first marriage (Matthew 19:4-6, 8b).
Jesus is explaining from Israel's history that when one marriage ends and another constituted, sexual exclusivity is transgressed in the process. Thus the inadvertent adultery Jesus described. It really is that simple, minus all the false suppositions added to Jesus' teaching by those who want those remarried after divorce to believe they are "not actually divorced" and "still married to their first spouse in God's eyes".
Christians MUST not follow an exaggerated view based in false suppositions where fear becomes the prime motivator and NOT TRUTH.
You ask. "Also what do you understand would be examples of a unbelieving spouse deserting a believing spouse. Would beating someone half to death, or trying to kill them, or just leaving and living their life somewhere else count as desertion?"
The context for Paul's teaching in verses 12-15 of 1 Corinthians is about an unbeliever repudiating their marriage to a believer. So if they don't want to maintain the marriage, the believer is no longer under bondage or set free from all obligations.
You ask, "And also are Christians who remarried in an unbiblical manner perpetually sinning and headed to hell? Or is the “adultery” mentioned in this topic a one time sin when they remarried?"
Remember the adultery is NOT happening because the people involved are "still married to their first spouse" (as postulated by the exaggerated view), but rather because they did not maintain sexual exclusivity. This is a one time transgression of God's creative design for marriage (predicated in the origin) and NOT based in the law itself. Two different ways of committing adultery where one is inadvertent and the other intentional. There is NO "perpetually sinning and headed to hell" for this way of committing adultery in God's Word.
      Blessings Pa Lee

Marriage is until death or Jesus would not call the second marriage adultry in the first place. If the first is still alive THAT is the spouse even if a man or woman at the courthouse signed a paper saying otherwise. I am pretty sure Jesus is wise enough to know. But so many listen to preachers instead of what Jesus said. It is astonishing that the preacher says the opposite of what Jesus said. I think it is just to keep the congregation happy.

Should I be coddled by the minister and told the opposite of what Jesus said...for the sake of my happiness? NO! Because I do not want to live in adultry! I thank John Piper for his initial teaching and red flags on this issue.
I have learned to love and appreciate Dr Piper. I heard John on his
points here, and considered them carefully, but this position he is
talking is away from goodness. Let me explain. When you dig for excuses
to justify divorced and remarried people as being in sound, good moral
plights because “they made a promise to commit adultery” it does not add
up. It is adultery or it is not. Period. Hold the battle lines John! Do
not waver. Remember God is perfect and holy. With the above teaching,
you just opened up the flood doors for divorce and remarriage once
again! Some people thinking of switching up partners may have paused at
your initial teaching, then proceeded to divorce and remarry when they
got to your position here. “Oh yes tickle my ears more, I just
commit adultery once, can get grace, and be totally acceptable and not
adulterated.” I will keep my promise to be in adultery?
An adulterous remarriage could be nullified as sin, in order to seek to
obey, and please the Lord is my take. I mean think of the scandalous
drive though weddings, adulterers can get in a Las Vagus chapel in less
than 5 minutes or the like. Would Piper say, a man should maintain that
marriage instead of going back to his faithful wife and 5 kids who are
waiting and praying he comes home? God forbid! From a biblical point of
view, remarriage is not “Marriage” at all even as we term it as such. It
is 100% sinful, vain adultery. It is not certifiable and is totally
    illegitimate as Jesus confirmed.
So a couple can take liberty to go ahead and get “remarried,“ but they
hit a brick wall and dead end in the process. The brick-wall called
adultery. The Lord Jesus is warning his followers to not get into
remarriage situations or they will indeed be committing adultery. No
Christian in their right mind would want a marriage that has the title
of adultery on it. So Jesus is basically saying do not do it. It is
mainly to PREVENT people from entertaining this sick pathway in the
first place. Notice He is talking it future tense seemingly as well? The
countless sinners who live in this plight would be best to not hold
their heads high and say “ I am Ok with this and without sin.” They are
best to assume they are sinners, stuck with an adulterated relationship
and can teach others not to follow their example.
They should have humility as they seek grace and mercy. This is a much
safer position. Those in bondage to adultery could include adulterated
marriages who have produced babies and other serious obligations.
Understand sexual sin; When your go so far with sin, there is a “point
of no return.” A virgin cannot get her virginity back once she makes a
sinful choice to give in to a male who is advancing. So Sin, like
cancer, can get to a point where surgical interventions, or treatments
are not practical. And there are no clear answers! So with remarriage
adultery. Some cases we have no clear answers, but to see it as sin.
It has invaded the whole body and there is no longer hope. There is the
prospect to get ready to face pain and death for these patients. It is
too late. Intervention was not done soon enough. Can we see the
parallel? Where is the hope for an adulterated family? For kids and
children who are defiled by th adultery their proud parents chose? But
as believers, nothing is impossible. We fear not and trust in the Lord.
I have a verse ....”God will judge the whore-monger and the adulterer.” That verse is found in the
NT, age of grace, not the OT. I have studied this issue for about a year
and have lost friends in the process of taking this no divorce
remarriage position. But I am perfectly OK with that. I will always
choose the Gospel over any union or religious sect. My own marriage has
thrived over taking this no divorce and remarriage position as we now
see ourselves as inseparable, in mutually agreed bounds l, but by death.
Our marriage thrives with laughter and the kids are happy too! Those in
remarriage adultery are not necessarily going to the fires of hell, God
grace is amazing. But they are in adultery. We must make that clear,
because that is what the Bible says.
May God bless us as we try and fight this wildfire of divorce and remarriage adultery spreading

Remarriage is not scriptural for any reason except after the death of one’s spouse. Even if one spouse is guilty of sexual immorality. The exception clause is stated ONLY for the question of divorce, NOT remarriage. Plus Jesus was answering their question in regards to Moses’ law, not Christianity. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 that separation or reconciliation are the only two options because you are BOUND TILL DEATH, 1 Corinthians 7:39, Romans 7:1-3.
Remarriage is not part of God’s plan for forgiveness, reconciliation, or redemption.
Remarriage, if your spouse is still living, is done purely out of fleshly and worldly desires. Reconciliation is God’s will and perfect plan, not remarriage!

And can remarry in cases of abandonment. Listen to John McArthur on this subject. Piper says it’s wrong but tells his remarried congregation that not to divorce, stay in it. So what is ? If sin then he’s telling them to stay in it? Why? Piper did this because he had to get on one side or the other. This is not as black and white as he puts it. It’s a legalistic stance . Maybe go back and read The Heart of God. We were made for relationship, not singleness. An abandoned spouse is innocent unless one was an abuser and the abused had to leave. So the abused now is condemned ? Chip Ingram married a woman who came from an abusive marriage. He adopted her children and they’re married no for many years and he’s an incredible expositor of the word. We have to show grace here because that’s exactly what Jesus Christ does and always has. Where divorce is allowed remarriage is. Strongly disagree with Piper but still honor him. We can do that.

First I have studied this subject out with much prayer.
    Second,
The Scripture teaches that one can separate.
This is know as the law of separation found in:
    1 Corinthians 7:15 KJV
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
Here is where most get the idea that they are free to remarry but all it says is >[IF]< they leave let them because God doesn't want you arguing or fighting.
    Third,
If you do get a divorce you are to remain unmarried or be reconciled to your spouse because only death breaks the covenant of marriage. This is evident because an adulterer would have been stoned to death if found out.
    1 Corinthians 7:10‭-‬11 KJV
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
    1 Corinthians 7:39 KJV
The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
    Romans 7:2‭-‬3 KJV
For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
    Fourth,
    Jesus said
    Mark 10:11‭-‬12 KJV
And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
    Luke 16:18 KJV
Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
    Fifth,
    When Paul says
    1 Corinthians 7:8‭-‬9 KJV
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
The unmarried are not the divorced. They are people who have never had a spouse or ones that no longer have a living spouse because only death breaks the covenant. This is the reason widows are also spoken of.
    Sixth,
The Apostles had trouble with this doctrine and after Jesus told the Pharisees what God's original purpose was, they asked him in private.
Read Mark 10:10-12 after Mark 10:2-9
    Mark 10:2‭-‬9 KJV
And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
    Mark 10:10‭-‬12 KJV
And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
As you can plainly see, Jesus clarified God's standard of marriage.
We do well to remember that God created marriage in the Garden of Eden and at that time man did not die. Meaning that marriage was lifelong/forever.
    And yes in
Matthew 5:32 and 19:9 it states the "Fornication clause", but this was referring to the Jewish custom of the 1 year betrothal period.
Jewish tradition treated that time as a contracted marriage, and you would have to get a bill of divorce if you found your spouse to of had sex before marriage see .
    Deuteronomy 22:13‭-‬21
    I.e.
Your fiancee cheats on you before the "I do" and you find out you can call off the wedding/marriage.
Joseph, Mary's fiancee was going to do this until God stopped him.
    Matthew 1:18‭-‬20 KJV
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was >>>[espoused]>[before they came together][husband][put her away privily]

Jesus was talking about Marriage, and divorce with pharises, not was talking about engage or betrothal ( Matthew 5 : 31, 32 or 19 : 5,6, 7, 8, 9)
Jesus said on Marriage, Matthew 19 : 5 For the reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined (in marriage) to his wife, and two shall be come one flesh (allow to have sex as husband and wife for planing to have children)
Matt 5 : 31 : it has been said whoever divorces his wife let him give her certificate of divorce or Matt 19 : 7 :....Why then did Moses command to give certificate of divorce, and put her away?
Certificate of divorce is given to the woman who in marriage for any reason
Jesus said Matthew 5 : 32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason EXCEPT SEXUAL IMMORALITY causes her to commit adultery.
Jesus mean : a husband does not allow his wife for any reason but not include for sexual immorality.
If husband divorces his wife for any reason causes her commits adultery, it mean when divorced she maybe remarry to other man and she commits adultery.
And husband who divorced wife for any reason and he also remarry another woman he commits adultery.
Jesus said : Except for sexual immorality of wife, the husband allows to dovorce his wife bcz she did sex to another man (she has been defiled compare it to Deutr 24 : 4)
Sexual immorality/fornication that wife did, when before she married or she is married.
So the men allow to remarry if his wife has died and he divorced his adultery wife.
And he can remarry but marries a woman who never been married or widow one.
The women allow to remarry only if her husband (former husband) dies
Jesus said to all men about the divorced women ( Matt 5 : 32 b, Luke 16 : 18b) : Whoever marries divorced woman, he commits adultery
Jesus had his commandment to the wife who her husband is abusive, unfaithful or adultery and she is forced to separate or divorce from her husband, she has two option REMAIN UNMARRIED or RECONCILED TO HER HUSBAND
The certificate of divorce that gives to a wife is not to give her to free remarry but it tells to other men to let this woman remain unmarried or reconciliation.
If her former husband take her back as wife, it is allowed, bcz she is not defiled bcz she has not remarried another man.

Can I get a divorce if my spouse commits adultery? No. Can I get a divorce if my spouse is abusive to me? No. Can I get a divorce if I no longer love my spouse? No. Can I get a divorce if my spouse has abandoned me? No.
Under what circumstances can I get a divorce? None. The Bible is clear; only death can dissolve a marriage in God's sight. Our only option is to separate from our spouse and remain single. If things improve between us and our spouse, reconciliation is possible (1 Corinthians 7:10-11, Bible).
What about the exception in Matthew 5:31-32 and Matthew 19:1-9? There is no exception in Matthew's gospel: Once married, always married until death do us part, no exceptions. This applies to all human beings, regardless of whether you are a sinner or a saint.

Once your marriage is broken you no longer have a contract/covenant. Contracts involve at least 2 parties. You are not liable for the transgressions of your mate. You can only work on you. If they are unwilling to do their part then you can go your way and divorce.
It is folly to think otherwise. Jesus chose to forgive us when he was on the cross. He paid the price. He said Father forgive them.....God already knew we would mess up and he chose us anyways. Think adam and eve. Because when you love someone you give,,,,You give love unconditionally.

If you look up the meaning of the word pornia, and fornication you will see where they came from and how was used back then and then you will see that this preacher and anyone make such claims regarding that scripture in matthew 19:9 are full of crap.
See below, your welcome. Do your own research.....
In the original Greek version of the New Testament, the term porneia (πορνεία - "prostitution") is used 25 times (including variants such as the genitive πορνείας).[3]
In the late 4th century, the Latin Vulgate, a Latin translation of the Greek texts, translated the term as fornicati, fornicatus, fornicata, and fornicatae. The 1611 King James Version[4] used the term fornication. Other translations have used terms such as whoredom, sexual immorality (e.g., Matthew 19:9) or simply immorality.[5][6]
In Latin, the term fornix means arch or vault. In Ancient Rome, prostitutes waited for their customers out of the rain under vaulted ceilings,[7] and fornix became a euphemism for brothels, and the Latin verb fornicarereferred to a man visiting a brothel.[8][9][10] The first recorded use in English is in the Cursor Mundi, c. 1300; the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) records a figurative use as well: "The forsaking of God for idols".[11]Fornicated as an adjective is still used in botany, meaning "arched" or "bending over" (as in a leaf). John Milton plays on the double meaning of the word in The Reason of Church-Government Urged against Prelaty(1642): "[She] gives up her body to a mercenary whordome under those fornicated [ar]ches which she cals Gods house."[12]

It's culturally significant to pay close attention to whether Our Lord Jesus is speaking of mankind, man or woman! He allows the man to remarry if his wife was guilty of "porno" which is perversion. If she had any form of sex with a male or a female, in effect, she dissolved the marriage herself. Thus, he can marry another, although his previous wife still lives.

I have a question for John Piper. How do you read 1 Corinthians 7:12-16 because that was my situation before? You try and try to keep on reconciling with that person who says they are a Christian, but no matter how much you try, they refused to reconcile with you, and they flat out divorced you. I always believed marriage was for life and you should never divorce because my parents and grandparents never divorced. My dad stayed with my mom until she died. I always wanted a long lasting marriage until death do us part, but you can't force the other person to stay with you if they flat out refused to stay with you. Divorce is never an answer to your marital problems, but working it out is the best way. But as Paul the Apostle says, you are free from the person who abandons you. What that person does in abandoning you they will have to answer to the Lord for what they have done. They will pay for their sins in what they have done, and I have seen it first hand where people have destroyed their lives because they left their spouse because they don't want to be with their spouse. So, what is the abandoned spouse supposed to do?

It can and will be done. I pray that for you in Jesus name. If you are going through this, pray daily for your wife to return. I am happy to pray for you as well.

Two passages for those individuals. With fear and trembling workout your own salvation for it is God working in you the willing and doing of His good pleasure. Also ; So we aspire to please Him, whether we are here in this body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad. Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.

I am confused...If a wife is divorced by her husband and he has taken everything is she supposed to be single and live in poverty? Without a husband to care for her? Or is she free to remarry? I think it stinks that someone should remain single because their spouse leaves them. There was absolutely nothing I could do. I have been single for 10 years and I hate it. I would love to have a spouse to be a wife too. So are you saying, I am not worth the crap on the bottom of a person's shoe because my spouse cheated on me and left me for another woman. I do not want to be single anymore and this message kind of irritated me. it was very one sided because you don't believe in divorce. Well....I didn't either until I experience it. I didn't even sign the papers in court. But again, there was nothing I could do. So, now...I am supposed to be punished for something my ex has done? REALLY!

THIs has nothing to do with self worth. It has everything to do with your view that women who are divorced should not re-marry. I am saying I am tired of being punished for the actions of others. YOu are saying keep being punished because you are divorced. It has nothing to do with self worth. It is about paying the price for someone else's actions. your views are of a person who doesn't believe in divorce and a man has the right to do what ever he wants to a woman. that is not Biblical either. None of my statement had anything to do with My Worth but everything about being punished for the actions of others by being single. A life that does not fit me. Your attitude pisses me off to tell it nicely.

So now you are judging me? Jesus also says not to judge others hearts or if they are good enough to go to heaven. Only God knows. It is not that I am selfish and not following God. I probably follow God's word more then most people. I spend a lot of my time studying scripture not just reading it or listening to others talk about it. My life has always been about God and my family. So don't even go there and do not ever accuse someone of living like most of the world. You have no idea where I am with Yahwe or his son Yeshua. Or for that matter Ruach.

Christ does not always take her back. The one exception for divorce is if one of the two fornicate during the engagement period. And right now, the bride of Christ is only in the engagement period, waiting for Christ to return for the marriage ceremony. For just as Hebrew men would take a year long engagement period to build a home for his new bride, so too has Christ gone to heaven to prepare a home for his wife. And, consequently, will give a writ of divorce to those churches/believers that have been unfaithful during this engagement period.

So many people are no longer reading the KJV. The other translations give you permission to remarry due to sexual immorality; however, the KJV, in Matthew 19:9, says except for fornication. Huge difference in the wording. I have researched this issue in depth, and there is nowhere in the Holy Scriptures that gives you permission to remarry after a divorce, unless your spouse dies. Search the scriptures for yourself. DO NOT listen to false teachers. Your eternal destiny depends on it. If you stays in the marriage, you are living in adultery.

Paul also instructs in 1 Corinthians 7: 10-11. “10Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.”
So even if they separate or divorce over fornication, adultery, or what ever adjective you wanna place on it, the scripture is clear they are to be remarried to each other. If they marry other people they are committing adultery.
I know people don’t want to hear the truth, but we have no choice but to share the truth with them.

People BE CAREFUL and DON'T BE DECEIVED. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 ABSOLUTELY CONFIRMS that "ALL REMARRIAGE" is in fact adultery. REPENTANCE from adultery means "stop stop living together and having sex with somebody else's husband or wife".
This preacher is preaching half truth you can't remain in your sin and be forgiven
Here's a question I want to ask you
Do you believe you can continually have sex with somebody else's husband or wife and go to heaven?
Do you believe that is secular judge can throw down the gavel and separate a husband and wife whom God joined together?
Does the judge who's presides over the divorce case get this is authority given to him from heaven? The answer is no.
If you're living in a remarriage you're actually living in ongoing adultery and you must repent of it.
You were warned you will not be able to stand before God and say nobody told you.
I beg and plead with you don't go to the eternal lake of fire because you're having sex with somebody else's husband or wife.
Jesus said and gave a commandment and it's in 1st Corinthians 7 verse 10 and 11
Jesus said I command the wife not to depart from her husband but if she departs let her remain single or be reconciled into her husband...and to the husband I command the husband not to divorce his wife.
So you see if somebody is estranged from their spouse they are to be reconciled if at all possible
So are you willing to have sex with somebody else's husband or wife when Jesus instructed them to be reconciled if at all possible. The very fact that you're with them prevents them from being reconciled to their spouse as Jesus commanded.
Jesus said my people perish for a lack of knowledge.
    Please read 1st Corinthians 7:10 and 11
And obey it just like it's written
Don't let a smooth sounding preacher change your mind about what Jesus said.
Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments this is a real commandment issued by Christ Jesus in 1st Corinthians 7:10 and 11 to all married couples.
    OBEY CHRIST
Stop living with somebody else's husband or wife having sex with them thinking you're in a remarriage. STOP IT
I beg you with tears if you really cared about people's families you would allow them to be reconciled because you're with a broken family trying to make a new family.
It doesn't matter how terrible their spouse is you must obey Christ and let God heal their relationship if at all possible.
"Father I pray for the millions of people reading this comment that they would turn from their sins because millions of people are being plunged into hell by the LIE of remarriage Jesus you plainly stated whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery and whoever marries her that is divorced also commits adultery. Father it has been proven that Erasmus added the words except for fornication in the 1500s to the Greek translations and father you know that since this faulty translation has been in the Bible people have begin to accept divorce and remarriage. But father you know prior to the 1500s for a thousand years the church didn't allow divorce and remarriage because it was 100% unbiblical. And father you know that Philip and Herodotus in the Bible were married according to Roman law and they were divorced according to Roman law and Herodotus remarried a man named Herod but Father John the Baptist being filled of the holy Spirit condemn the remarriage as adultery."
I therefore under the instruction of God the Father God the son and God the holy Spirit warn the reader to depart from iniquity and depart from sin all remarriage is adultery you will not be able to find one remarried couple in the Bible and the only remarried couple in the Bible that were remarried according to law they were condemned as adulterers. Even in the case of divorce for fornication or sexual immorality because that was the exact reason that Philip divorced Herodotus because Herodotus was having an affair with Herod. So you see the strongest case for divorce and remarriage is even condemned by the Holy Spirit through John the Baptist.
    God bless you dear reader
    you were warned
I shake the dust off from my feet for those people who would argue with me for they argue with Jesus Christ for his words stands and defends itself
The words that I preach are the truth and they are the words that are given to me by Jesus Christ
Once again I beg you to repent repentance means stop having sex with somebody else's husband and wife get out of that bedroom and get out of that house and stop living together and calling yourself a family.
Only those people who depart from sin will make it into heaven

      Grace to you
The first question you ask is completely absurd!!!
You ask "Do you believe you can continually have sex with somebody else's husband or wife and go to heaven?"
Proving you totally misunderstand the biblical CONTEXT for Jesus' teaching on divorce. You are NOT interpreting Jesus from the Biblical precedents to which He refers, but rather from the extreme, exaggerated position of some Pastors who inverts the meaning of "divorce" and "marries another" as stated by Jesus.
Your whole post is predicated on the FALSE belief that "divorce" and "marries another" (as spoken by Jesus) does not actually mean divorce and marries another, right?
You have wrongly followed Teachers who invert and dismiss those events "as if" they had not actually happened. BIG, BIG mistake in your interpretation. You are affirming the literalness of the ensuing adultery while at the same time denying the literalness of the divorce and second marriage, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Jesus' teaching one marriage has ended and ANOTHER marriage followed. Thus your question is totally fabricated from a FALSE interpretation which inverts word meaning in order to get to the erroneous interpretation. You would HAVE to admit that if Jesus was revealing what transpires by ending a marriage before death where remarriage was allowed under the law (as shown in the law of Deuteronomy 24 verse 2), that you have totally misconstrued Jesus' teaching on this issue, right?
Thus those divorced and remarried are NOT having sex "with somebody else's husband or wife" (as you FALSELY believe), but rather with their own spouse. Try believing EVERYTHING Jesus said from the Biblical precedents to which He refers and NOT from Teachers who create a new, erroneous narrative by adding false suppositions that undermines the fact that divorce and remarriage are actual events that change marital status and obligations to the present spouse. Blessings

If you can help me by answering the questions below, I would appreciate it.
    1) I have not found a text that says that a MAN abandoned (passive) by his wife commits adultery if he marries another woman or that he should remain alone;
    2) a woman abandoned, even for an unjust cause (Deut. 24), could remarry (she was not to be stoned as an adulteress, Deut. 22), except to priests (Lev. 21). After the coming of the Lord, the woman unjustly abandoned can no longer marry? Was there more freedom for the abandoned woman before? Jesus said that he would not repeal the Law given by His Father.
    3) Why does the text about "divorce" (or separation) appear in Luke in the middle of texts about money?
    4) Why is it believed that the union of one flesh is something ontological, and there are several passages in which it is demonstrated that this does not occur (Abraham and Hagar, marriage with foreigners, relations between relatives, Ex. 22,17, I Cor. 5, I Cor .6, Deut. 24...)
    5) The verbs allow and command are interchanged in Matthew 19 and Mark 10. Why does almost everyone who preaches Matthew 19 ignore this interchange in Mark 10?
    6) Why do people ignore that the procedural question of the divorce certificate has value? Think with me: what was the penalty for adultery? Stoning? Not always. If there were no witnesses and she was guilty, the penalty for the same offense would be different, according to Num. 5. Why is it not noticed that God made this point in Isaiah 50 when asking where the divorce certificate would be?
    7) if an unbeliever leaves his believing spouse and disappears in the world. In a short time, no one knows the whereabouts of the person, and not even if he is alive (the Brazilian Civil Code even regulates absence, by the way), the believing spouse would be prohibited from getting married permanently, because how would he know if the other died?
    8) do you think that in Corinth there were no divorced people? If in Israel the concept of marriage was no longer there, in the Greek environment there was no divorce? Paul did not give the Corinthians any divorce decrees.
    9) Paul told Timothy that doctrines of demons would arise: prohibition of marriages and food. Do you know anywhere banning food only to leaders? I am not. So why interpret that the ban on marriages that would arise would only be for leaders (as we usually interpret it, understanding Catholics in that position)?
    10) Paul said in Romans 7 that the wife was bound to her husband unto death by the LAW, not by an indissoluble Neoplatonic ontological bond. The woman could be required by the man if he did not give her a certificate of divorce. But if he gave it, even if unjustly and because of the hardness of heart, she was not bound to him by the LAW. Paul used the rule to use a metaphor.
    God bless you!

I really like a lot of John Piper's messages and most of this one, but I disagree @ 57:30 A biblical example of illegitimate marriage, which is not recognized by God and is indeed a continuous act of adultery and sin
    Herod and Herodias
Mark 6:17-20 17 For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.” 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.
John the Baptist lost his life and was beheaded for telling Herod that it was not lawful for him to have his brother's wife. John the Baptist didn't tell Herod to acknowledge his sinful marriage to Herodias, feel sorry about it, believe in the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and simply move on while continuing his illegitimate marriage. No, he told him it is not lawful for him to have his brother's wife. As long as Herod kept his brother's wife, although he had married her and took Herodias as wife, it was not lawful and the marriage was illegitimate. It was a continuous act of adultery that needed to be repented of. John the Baptist was telling Herod to divorce Herodias his illegitimate wife, because she was not actually his wife, but still the wife of his brother.Illegitimate marriages are adultery. They are not valid marriages and never will be until the REAL spouse dies.

Then @ 1:00:00 he quotes Deut. 24 and completely misses it again. The reason the original spouse was not allowed to take back the wife that has gone and defiled herself with another man, isn't because that other relationship was valid in the eyes of God. It is because she was defiled and it would be an abomination to receive her back. It goes so far as to say that even if the man she was defiled with was DEAD, the original spouse still couldn't take her back. This is completely different from the law of an actual God ordained marriage where the covenant is ended by death of the spouse.

I wouldn't say that John Piper doesn't know squat. I have really been edified by many of his sermons even though I disagree with his views from time to time and on some doctrinal points. I personally think he knows better. He claims he is taking a hard nosed and narrow stance on this issue but I see him squirming and twisting the Scriptures in order to not take the real hard nosed stance that John the Baptist took which cost him his life. It is a very tough thing to say to people that their marriage is illegitimate. It isn't fun or exciting. Especially if they have had children together in their adulterous illegitimate relationship. It can cost you family members and close friends. It can cost you your congregation and the tithe money which you survive on. It will certainly bring forms of persecution and division. I have a sibling and a parent that have chosen to pursue illegitimate marriages and my sibling has had children in this relationship and I know just how hard it is to share the truth of God's word with someone in one of these situations. Especially when they now have children. Luke 12:51-53 becomes very real when you make the decision to stand on His word and proclaim His truth, no matter the cost. John 17:14 becomes very real and personal when you make the decision to stand on God's word no matter the cost. The reason why is because men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil. Because every one that does evil hates the light, neither do they come to the light, lest their deeds should be reproved. (John 3:19-20). People want to have their ears itched according to their own lustful desires.
At the end of the day though, I don't want to stand before God and have Him ask me why I didn't warn them if I knew the truth. I don't want my family or friends to ask me why I didn't warn them. I don't want anyone's blood on my hands.
Jeremiah 23:14 Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies; They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to Me, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.
Ezekiel 13:22 Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life.
      Jeremiah 23:17-18, 22
17 They keep saying to those who despise me,
‘The Lord says: You will have peace.’
And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts
they say, ‘No harm will come to you.’
18 But which of them has stood in the council of YHWH
to see or to hear his word?
Who has listened and heard his word?
22 But if they had stood in my council,
they would have proclaimed my words to my people
and would have turned them from their evil ways
      and from their evil deeds.

This is only a one sided argument concerning divorce and re-marriage. I remember Chuck Swindol once said that if you put all the theologians on a bus and sent them away for several months to discuss this very issue, they would come back with no unanimous answer or a agreement. Yes, divorce is painful, yes, it is against the LORD's will but there is always God's infinite Grace and love. The bible says: "If the unbeliever leaves, let them go and you are no longer bound." The greek word bound means tied, held, committed or attached. If the abandoned spouse has not defiled the marriage bed and he/she is divorced against their will, they are no longer bound to the adulterer and the marriage vows. They are free to remarry. Many men in the Bible, even David, a man after God's heart had many wives. We live in a fallen world and the LORD has made allowances through HIS son Jesus and HIS Grace. I do not say this lightly. I was abandoned by an adulterous husband who abandoned his Lord also, and therefore after many years of singleness the LORD brought a good and godly man into my life. My current husband. So do not judge us so that you also may not be judged.

When Jesus said that you are an adulterer if you divorce and remarry, he didnt say that you made another oath so remain and ask for forgiveness. Apostle Paul said if one marries another while your original lives you will be known as an adulterer. Anytime you enter into another, have you not TRIED to set up another union?? This all seems very legalistic to me! I believe every word of scripture and realize God is holy but I believe Christ death on the cross is finished work and covers all sins. I realize God hates divorce! And I'm familiar with the gospel teachings concerning divorce. I recall the woman at the well having five husbands and Jesus forgave her! The woman caught in the act of adultery was faced with stoning and Jesus told her accusers that those without sin cast the first stone. In other words all those people holding stones had a legalistic mindset but couldn't live under it's application. Legalism is something you have to be careful of because you too can't live under it's application. To say someone who gets divorced because their spouses runs off with someone else should honor the marriage by staying lonely the rest of their days is an indirect reading of the gospel. If it's ok to remarry when a spouse passes, what about when the marriage itself dies?

Why not insist on the same for divorced and remarried people, who are nothing more than adulterers, who have produced bastards as children?

@chad fibregel@ gmail.com I would not take the extreme that every remarried person in adultery should leave. There has to be damage control. 80% will leave anyways, is it called divorce after remarriage statistics! Those remarried, with children and legal obligations with the family could cause even more sin by leaving another woman destitute. Especially when the other has remarried. What they SHOULD ALWAYS DO, is humbly admit their are in adultery, and have remorse for the sin they have inflicted upon themselves, the family, and community. Some scandalous adulterated remarriages should separate and repent no doubt, and those who should, know who you are! I don't know what to say.... sometimes there is no answer to sin! What is our rationale to a stage 4 cancer patient? Those bound in the tentacles of sin, divorce and perverted adultery sin may be indeed on their was with the masses to the flames and torments of hell. Some will escape. God's grace is amazing! But Remember, humility and repentance. Even for us in this "ME" narcissistic, Google generation of "know it alls." One cannot be saved if they are not broken in their sin.

Let me ask a few questions in regard to a contextual interpretation of Jesus teaching on this matter.
How do you feel about the Old Testament women who were allowed to remarry under the law after being repudiated (divorced) by their husbands (Deuteronomy 24:2)?
Do you distain them and call them whores and adulterers?
Or do you have compassion for them knowing they needed a companion and provider being that this way of committing adultery was the inadvertent consequence of the divorce concession Jesus mentions in Matthew 19:8?
Jesus revealed that these women were caused to commit adultery by their former husbands repudiation of them when they remarried (Matthew 5:32).
Does that mean Jesus prohibited remarriage (even though He didn't)?
Would you say that God got it wrong under the law and those women shouldn't have remarried?
Is Jesus correcting His Father and Moses?
Or is He simply revealing that ending a marriage before death (divorce) carries a negative consequence of adultery for the ensuing marriage?
What would you do if you were divorced and God graciously allowed you to remarry?
Would you remain single and celibate or would you remarry?
That's the paradox presented in God's Word. Hope that helps you understand the divorce dilemma better.
    Blessings to all

Never teach that there are exemptions in the Bible for divorce. This is absolutely false. Marriage is until death do you part. If you divorce and remarry…. You do not marry, but commit adultery. The only exemption is in the context of the Jewish Gospel of Matthew where if one fornicated in a betrothal dedication (as was assumed in the account of Mary found to be with child and Joseph) he could have justly put her away and divorced and therefore remarried.
So what? Every person and couple who you know is divorced and remarried are living in adultery and in the practice of it. This is bashed on Galatians, they are not inheriting the Kingdom of God. Pastors who remarry and teach the exemption clause loopholes are in danger of hell too. Because again they practice it even as they are one women men. Wise up on this we must

    • @nealdoster8556
      @nealdoster8556 Рік тому

You claim "If you divorce and remarry…. You do not marry, but commit adultery."
Do you realize you are making a self contradicting statement?
Do you believe Jesus lied when He said "marries another" and "which is put away" which refers to divorce?
Don't you actually believe His words or not?
Your interpretation of Jesus is exaggerated. By only interpreting part of what He said literally you are self contradicting. You SHOULDN'T invert His words in order to come to your conclusions. Your interpretation is erroneous by concluding that in Jesus' teaching there is an either/or conclusions. In truth Jesus gave a both/and conclusion. You are claiming it's either marriage or adultery, right?
That is a false interpretation!!!!!!!!!!! This is the common fallacy to your position and all who share it.
So what would your conclusion be if you realized Jesus in fact gave a both/and conclusion? In other words all the events He mentions (divorce, marriage, and adultery) are actual events that changed marital status from one spouse to another?
The ensuing adultery doesn't change those truths, understand?
You are NOT interpreting Jesus from the biblical precedents to which He refers but rather from false suppositions interjected into His teaching.
You need to STOP thinking that the adultery happens because the first marriage doesn't end. That's the total opposite of what Jesus said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus is in fact explaining that this way of committing adultery transpires because the first marriage ended prematurely, (NOT continued as you've been programed to believe).
This way of committing adultery happens exactly how Jesus described it, NOT because some interpreter inverts the meaning of His words in order to come to some erroneous conclusion.
So if Jesus meant what He said you have one marriage ending and another constituted. Thus being in harmony with the writings of Moses to which He refers (and NOT in contradiction as false suppositions interpret). That would mean that those remarried are married to their present spouse and NOT their former. It would also mean they are obligated to them and NOT their former!!!!!!!!!!!! It would ALSO mean that the way you claim this adultery occurs is FALSE. It's NOT the adultery of "still being married to the first spouse in God's eyes". That conclusion is the opposite of what Jesus actually said.
In Jesus' teaching on this issue He was explaining to His covenant people the inadvertent consequence of conceding divorce to them over against God's creative design which is lifelong (Matthew 19:8). Try interpreting Jesus with both of those facts being true. Blessings

Scripture gives two reasons that would allow for divorce. One is if your spouse had an affair with someone else (had sex). Matthew 5:32. Or if you were abandoned by a nonbelieving spouse (1 Corinthians 7:15). Matthew 5:32 gives permission for spouses of those who committed adultery or committed “sexual immorality” to remarry, it’s the “exception” that is allowed in this verse.

The LORD JESUS said that unless if there's evidence of sexual immorality one can not remarried. One would have to be very careful as to examine how a wife can withhold herself to her husband forcing him to look elsewhere to fulfill his needs. Likewise, husbands must treat their wives with love and understanding. The word say clearly, husbands love your wives as JESUS loves the church that HE gave his life for it.

If you are a genuine believer then you too are indwelt with Gods Spirit. If you truly desire to do His will and not just live a comfortable life, then He will guide you.
Divorce is not wrong in every situation, neither is remarriage. BUT it’s really necessary to be sure we understand which circumstances are allowed and if there is any doubt at all....don’t do it! If you proceed either way when you are doubting, then for you it is sin.

Rather the point was to say that ending a marriage prematurely (divorce) causes one to commit adultery against their former spouse when they remarry (Mark 10:11). This way of committing adultery was the inadvertent consequence of conceding divorce (Matthew 19:8). It was NOT punished because it was unintentional. No "risking your eternal life" on that basis.

She got pregnant and he didn't tell me until I heard it from rumors. I asked him if it is true and he confirmed it and I asked him if he will file for divorce (which would haven been the only right consequence) but he answered that he even had not thought about it. I asked him he wants to move together with the "Next" and his child and he said yes.... so I filed for divorce and am waiting for it. I had also waited several months for a reconciliation, prayed, tried to talk to him, asked for forgivenness... nothing.
Now I wonder am I allowed to remarry? And if he marries the "NExt"? Am I still bound to him till I die? I cannot believe this.

With this view, if your covenant spouse is still living, all subsequent marriages are adulterous as long as you are living in them because God only recognizes the first covenant marriage... I'm a permanence view gal, but I'm on the fence about all subsequent marriages being a continual state of adultery...

      Dear West Gate,
Your position is not politically correct and the fact that your beliefs are based entirely on Scripture puts you at odds with the World.... Isn't that exactly what Jesus told His disciples? We simply must not base our theology on feelings or emotion, but on the NEVER CHANGING word of God. This is our only true moral compass and if we dismiss it we will surely be lost. Remarriage after divorce according to St. Mark chapter 10 is adultery... Those are the words written in red. We simply must trust the words of Jesus over the words of men. Perhaps if someone is lost in sin and gets a divorce and then remarries after conversion God will judge this in a different way than Christians divorcing Christians, BUT I'm not willing to offer anyone advice releasing them from the standards of the Bible as many Pastors do today... They do so at their own peril. God Bless You and Remain standing for the truth.

While in the beginning God's pattern for marriage was that it would be permanent but then sin entered the world and as we go into the old testament and even Jesus quoted that in the beginning it was God's design that it would be permanent but because of man's heart hardening people did get divorced. I am familiar with all the NT passages myself being a pastor of a church for many years and a Christian of 50 years this teacher does misquote some things e.g 1 Corinthians 7 where Paul has been asked a simple question which was asked by new Christians. They asked Paul if it was still ok to be married to an unbeliever or would God now want them to separate. Paul said no stay with it for the reasons that he explained. Sadly many preachers use this passage as an answer for all types of marriage and divorce situations but it can not be used in such a way. Here is not the time for a big teaching but nearly every video I watch on this teaching many even go on to say that if you got married again then you are an adulterer and the marriage should cease. Jesus was asked if a man can put away his wife for "any" reason, any being an important word here where Jesus goes on to refer to God's original intention before sin. Jesus said that adultery would allow a man or woman to divorce. We see King David commit adultery and God forgives him and we see many Christians divorce because sometimes people just don't get on with each other and the marriage fails. When two Christians separate it is a sinful deed just like any sin being no more or less than any sinful deed. When we are saved our sinful nature is changed and we have a new nature but we are still going to do at times a sinful deed and miss the mark because we are still in the flesh. God knows this and the bible says that when we miss the mark that God is faithful and just to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the one truth that ALL these preachers fail to comfort the saints with that God forgives and when he does we are free to move on and marry again. Many preachers just make these laws and many now live confused about what God thinks and many left violent marriages or marriages that were so horrific that they could not stay. Does God then punish you for the rest of your life and make you live alone when he knows that he meets every human need through your husband or wife. No, no ,no, God is a God who forgives and allows us to move on but many say no he doesn't forgive divorce. Well then God doesn't forgive any sinful deed then. No God forgives and if you are reading this looking for answers because you are remarried or divorced know that God didn't want you to fail but if you confess to God that you missed the mark ( sinned) he is faithful to forgive and don't let anyone tell you otherwise because God's word is the authority and God forgives.

Ok, I have a question. I posted this on another video as well and haven’t received an answer. So, I am divorced. My ex had an affair. We tried to work it out but he kept doing it. He got remarried and has three other children (we have two together from our marriage). So, obviously our divorce was biblical. So, what I am hearing is that I can’t remarry? He cheated, is remarried and denies his faith but I am not to remarry? I don’t see how our just Lord would punish someone in my situation. That doesn’t make sense to me?
Another question, if people are remarried and they hear that this makes them adulterers, what are they to do? Divorce is a sin so what can they do? Does God just not recognize that marriage? If so, where in the Bible does it say any of this? Anyone that had any helpful answers would be appreciated!

Three years ago we tried reconciling our relationship and once again I allowed the devil into our lives to destroy our chance at remarrying. She has again left after I should have been and humble enough to make sure that this didn't happen. I would love to say that I don't long to once again belong, to give my heart to another but I'm not wired for that. 1:02:12 "Vows even when they are made unwisely, generally should be kept in the bible"
He is WRONG about this. Leviticus 5:4-6 Or if a person swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, in whatever matter a man may speak thoughtlessly with an oath, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty in one of these. 5 So it shall be when he becomes guilty in one of these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned. 6 He shall also bring his guilt offering to the Lord for his sin which he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin.
His quoting of Psalm 15:4 is not an excuse for adultery. With this logic a homosexual can just swear a vow and it would be binding. God does not honor sin as binding. If sin is sin, every example is scripture is to run away from that sin.
The women who was caught in the midst of adultery in John 8. Notice Jesus shows her grace and doesn't stone her as the Law commanded (the Law by the way that the Trinity put together). Yet it ends with "Go now and LEAVE your life of sin". Jesus doesn't take her place on the cross for her to continue in her adultery. So what would make us think what he calls adultery that would be acceptable to live in it?
Piper is close to the truth but unwilling to pull the trigger on the reality of scripture.
How would Piper advice a gay marriage when they come to Christ? They split.
What about a man who married his sister? They should split
What about a man with multiple wive? He should only have the first
Why do we give tough love to other areas of sexual sin by abandon remarriage adultery?
The early Church was in unanimous agreement that remarriage was not allowed and was sin. You couldn't be a part of a Church if you were remarried. It was considered adultery. It wasn't until Luther unfortunately believed that marriage was not something that was the church's business but handed it over to the state.
As a protestant myself, we have lost the reality of what adultery is. Instead of sticking with the hard standing of truth despite a changing culture, we have caved into cultures sin and have accepted the divorced and remarried.
His other point about the women at the well also made no sense to me. How does he know the previous 5 husbands didnt' die? He assumes she got divorced and remarried though the text doesn't say that.

2). Old Covenant, and why was it an abomination? Because when a woman was divorced she was given back her dowry from the husband. If she married another man she would also get money from him. The first husband who is then interested in the free money from the other husband would want to remarry her and get all that inheritance. This is an abomination.

I believe it's important to know all of what Jesus says about any subject and not only bits and pieces. Jesus clearly doesn't want anyone to divorce and God hates divorce, but Jesus also says "except for the reason of unchastity" or unfaithfulness. From what I understand the party who was cheated on is the innocent party and is allowed to divorce. Why? Because our hearts can be hard.
“Jesus replied, "Moses allowed you to divorce your wives because your hearts are unyielding. But it wasn’t that way from the beginning. I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."”
