as always so fascinating too watch your videos about cassettes, just the fact that you unpack a brand new cassette gives me goosebumps. Thank you so much Tony, keep dem comming.
Never seen a TDK Super D before, sadly, it wasn’t available in the US, except TDK was still making D’s instead. I want to see another US variants of the 1985 D’s and the 1986 D’s in a black shell, and the mid 1990’s TDK D’s for the US since he has not been put up yet. Super D was SD, and as you know, TDK started with the SD back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s as a Type 1 cassette originally, but by 1987, SD was a “Type 2” cassette. But the tape itself looks and sounds like an SA cassette.
Tbh I never cared for the Dragon, but the Revox gone makes me a bit sad. Oh well, but I‘m glad you know the direction where you want to move forward to. And thanks for not stopping making cassette videos! Edit: the moment I heard the song I thought „NEED FOR SPEED!“
Great sounding tape. I had the same experience with CDing2, and had tape cupping and all sorts of issues from.new. Agree about the cassette decks. I always wonder what am I missing not having owned a dragon etc. Keep these Great videos coming
I luv cassettes way too much, I listen to them daily on the way to work and back. I have a 50 year old Deep Purple / Machine Head cassette tape album that sounds remarkably well for its age and still has high frequencies
That's it, when I have a deck this good, that I like so much, why have thousands of pounds of other decks sitting in the shelf...81 is no age now. Start thinking about death when you got triple figures.
So sad you sold your revox b215 tape deck it was so cool to watch you talking about cassette tape n the different about different cassette tape sound that I never knew about tapes 2 n metal tape back in the 80s I never paid mind to tape n the different between each tape I learn a lot from you Tony thank you so much I like watching your video is so cool Tony I call it nerd cassette tape still play on 2022 like you said cassette come back is fun recording n listening on my revox 215 oh my nakamichi 303 it sound awesome play tape again after many years I did not play tape n learn how good they could sound with they right recording n cassettes tape I had my revox on my closet for years until I saw your channel Tony I bought it on 89s at first it was tripping but I lubricant all the moving parts a couple rewind n forward n play a lot the problem stop n my revox is working fine now anyway thank you for your video tony sure learn a lot from you 👍😎
Your channel popped up in suggestions, may be because of Techmoan. After looking at some of your videos, I suddenly remembered I have some unopened tapes in house. I also have Minidisc. I found a pack of 5 + 1 TDK AD 90 with sticker price £5.99 never opened. I have used most of the TDK range until the 90's, plus other major brands. Then on to Minidisc, finally MP3. I will continue watching your videos with interest.
Happy to see you again… finally another great review from you… straight to the point as always 👍🏼 Hopefully we'll see more of you again in the future. Because there are a lot of analogue fans out here... and thank God it's growing again 😁 Many greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
Regarding the power washing - I've thought of another use for the tape - no, not that one - For recording their power washing and then playing it back at a loud volume when they least expect it and want to relax. (LOL). [It's a genuine use for the tape, and for your channel,]. Although them wearing it would also work too, if only to give you some peace and quiet!
I’ve been taping recently, been putting my breakbeat vinyl I used to dj onto tapes. Using techniques I learned from your videos and a Yamaha KX-500 borrowed from a friend I’ve got some really good recordings
Great video! You definitely kept a great cassette deck. Thank you for having introduced so many of us to other wonders like the Dragon and the Revox, I’m sure you found a great home for them. You’re right, the problem with these cassettes is the tape, I guess the formulation was not very well tested and I would not use them for recording anything that I’d like to stand the test of time. Man, that track you used reminded me of the songs used in the first NFS PS1 games lol 😂
Sweet I have several diecast cars, and model cars, most of the ones I have are the older ones I already had growing up, but I have bought several newer ones like on eBay it's a loose package truck by greenlight but it is the fall guy 82 gmc k2500 Sierra Classic like $9.00 and $4.00 shipping but nice truck.
I didn't mind the track, it was fit for purpose. The only thing missing was some glowsticks, though. Always good to see a new cassette video, thanks Tony.
Very sensible Tony. All nice to have these things, when they're gone ya don't really miss them. It's always nice to have some money in the bank instead. My favourite is the CR7. Nice speedy tickling up tapes with the auto calibration.
Good to see you back Tony. Had a quick check and I have four Super Ds, probably as everything good was disappearing locally at the time. Still have several Matchbox and Corgis from the 70s but also sold a lot on Ebay in the last 10 years but what's left is staying as can't be bothered with the hassle. Good luck with the new channel.
I feel your neighbour noise pain. I have garden power tools obsessive guy over the way. Goes on for hours. If it makes a noise he’ll overuse it. Thanks for this. Quite the curiosity that tape.
Seeing this reminds me of the fact that I found a German craigslist offering for a TDK branded cruiser-style bicycle yesterday. As I'm about 2m tall, it's definitely not my size so I passed :D I wonder how that got made .. or rather, what the context of that being made is.
@@CassetteComeback That could be true! TDK seems to at least be still active as a brand - just not in the consumer space. The bike - judging by the photo - it seems to be (assuming TDK is alive and well) some kind of trade show prop.
I go back to your old videos from time to time because they are full of information and I've never had most types of cassettes you show (and I forget about most of the lesser known ones) and I also like listening to you. So I hope this channel is still generating a little income for you. It is like a Wikipedia for tapes and it should be preserved. I'm also still hoping for interesting new tapes because the prices of NOS and the Fox are just crazy. Can't understand why there are still mostly crappy tapes being manufactured as there is money to make. We get 5packs for 10€ again, but the quality sucks. Why don't they make it 20€ and worthwhile... 😩 I digress... Have a nice evening Tony!
@Cassette Comeback *Glad to see you back Tony. I used to collect Matchbox and Hot Wheels some years ago, but don't now. Good luck with the new business* I'll still check in on the Matchbox videos if and when you make them*
Don't mind a bit of jet washing, find it quite therapeutic.. annoying the neighbours is just a bonus! 🤣 No regrets buying the Revox off you Tony. Looks stunning with the B251!
Hi Tony, thanks for the video! Regarding the Revox, sometimes less is more, and you won't have to worry about having another deck properly serviced etc. As for the SuperD, it comes in the same light shell as the CDing2 and some standard D - look at the round notch in the middle of each side! These cassettes weigh less than the original ones, and I guess the shell is not as sturdy. Has anyone else noticed this?
Well its sad to see your ReVox go , I picked one up recently, currently getting serviced and a check up. Do you think in your honest opinion that I am missing out on anything. I have the ReVox and A Nak 681zx. The 681zx has fine bias controls and cant auto calibrate if its life depeneded on it. But do you think the ReVox has good enough calibration? Calibration is my only concern as i want to be able to use any tape possible. Do you think auto calibration on B215 vs something like a ZX9 manual is significant?
The B215 is a great deck. I never had any recourse to doubt the auto calibration of it. If I gave you a cassette that could have been recorded on any one of my decks, you wouldn't be able to tell which, you'd just know it sounded good and that's all that matters.
Great seeing my good buddy making some new cassette videos. I TOTALLY agree with you about the quality issues of those lower type 2 TDK. Never had a problem with the blue SF. They've been as reliable as the SA of the same era. Piss myself about power washing pebbles too!!!! 😅😅😆😂😭
Maybe you could mute some passages in the claimed videos or, even better, if you still have a corresponding tape, rerecord the test with another song. As for muting the test recording, to me this doesn't matter this much. I watch most of the videos on my phone anyways and I believe UA-cam's compression makes it pretty hard to notice any differences (on everything non-type-0) anyway. I think your commentary is way more important (and entertaining) and it's sad that your online archive isn't as complete as it could be.
Hey Tony great to see another video. Would you accept donations from your viewers if we have anything interesting or unusual that might be of interest for you to do a video on? I don't have anything particularly interesting other than some mid-70s sealed Fuji tapes: but others might have more interesting items which they have duplicates of and would be willing to donate? Just a thought. Either way, keep up the good work!
Hello Tony! It's quite interesting this, because I just recently "inherited" well over 200 cassette tapes from my old music teacher (from grade and jr. high school) when she had to move into an old peoples home at the age of 93. Many very old, very crusty cassettes (I chucked those), many usable ones, some really good ones, but I actually found the case of one of these TDK Super D's. Not the actual tape but the case. Never saw these before then. :-) Also if I may ask, how do you evaluate used cassette tapes to know that they're good to be used? I just visually inspected the tapes to be clean, and that the tape inside looks good (no signs of mold or other gunk) and that it's smooth and not damaged in any way. I think that's the right way to do it? Oh and the Nakamichi CR-7x is my dream deck. Not something I'd probably ever be able to find to buy or afford. I have a SONY TC-K750ES and I got my old Technics RS-BX501 back that I bought new back in 1996. (a story for another time). I use the high end deck for recording on mostly (excellent recordings) and then I listen to the tapes on the Technics.
I have a BX501 and I think it's a brilliant playback deck and will be easy to rebelt if needed. Just a visual inspection for the used cassettes, but the only really way to know is to record them in a 3 head deck like your Sony and listen for drop outs.
@@CassetteComeback Thanks so much for the reply Tony. And thanks for still staying active on the Cassette Comeback channel. You're the sole reason I got back into cassette tapes. I found your channel (now quite some time ago) and I just knew I had to get back into it :-)
The track sounds like something that would be in Need For Speed 3! I've been perfectly content with my AD-600 deck but man do I want a 3-head and boy do I want one of these nice recording decks now!
I read something on the "Tapeheads" forum mentioning a seller in the Netherlands who appeared to have acquired a large batch of "Super D" tapes, but that many of them showed signs of having being stored poorly (albeit not necessarily by them). Not sure if that's what the problem is here.
Cassette Comeback is back doing videos of his new purchases for a hobby rather than a tie in for a job now. Hope you enjoy your new approach more now Tony now that your channel is now focused on just showing all different tapes you purchase in any old order and at any time instead of just some you are going to sell and not coverign any other interesting ones you won't sell due to having only one in your collection hobby. Tony's Toy Chest didn't last though.
Sounds unreliably nice! Glad they finally invented a royalty-free way to get Firestarter stuck in my head. (Now off to Tony's Toy Chest, but I swear to God I do NOT have the cash for a storage locker full of Hot Wheels...)
Hmmm.... New Cassette Comeback video = insta Like. It's slightly sad that you decided to clear some of your deck collection. But I like the choice of decks you decided to keep. What about the AKAI GX912? I liked that deck, been looking to get one, sadly they are too expensive at this point.
I am not sure if i have one in my collection of new tapes i have looked at them and wondered why they exist when the cd ing was a budget type 2 .I was collecting the vanguard models years ago when they were £6.99 they are now About £30 plus .
Wow. Just randomly opened a box of old tapes & I have one of these tapes & lo it did not want to play. A few rewinds and it's OK. Must've been in a box of tapes a neighbour gave me way back.
I‘m disappointed Tony! You selling your other Tapedecks…😢 How dare you?!? But, I now, it’s your choice and i am Happy you still making Videos. Keep going on! Please 🙏🏻
Something that has that issue i'd be suspicious and fast wind it both ways and see if the issue is the start of 'sticky shed'. You are wise to regard these tapes as collectibles only.
TDK sold a legit "superior" D for a while here. It was called the DS-X, a very fine sounding Type 1 tape. I don't think they were sold outside of the Americas though and many suspect they are rebranded ARs.
That's That infanouse lubrication breaking down a little. FIX. FF And REW TWICE. ALL FIXED. BUT. NO Your Right. I've actually had problems with all tdk tapes. These the lube dried up and the old SA the tape had dropouts ..
This tape have a dynamic sound and Its a chrome tape and It Is dynamic, but I recomend the sony TC WE 705S autoreverse deck with auto Call and dolby S, and It will sound just perfect, tested by myself
BTW Tony, I may not really like the music you use. (I’m a Metal head.) But, That’s not the point of these videos. Nice to have some tape vids again. You do you & don’t mind the haters!
Dad was country musician so i got tons of music on different formats mainly cassette 8 track and DAT i really want a DAT player so i can hear his tapes im curious whatson em 🧐 i still want a multi format hifi stack 🥴
oh this is super d but normal bias in usa and europe and austrilia the 2003-2005 ones. hmm i dont know if this is type ii the chrome or high bias. but interesting yo got super d in europe and austrilia instead hmm. i think vintage cassette website needs some updating though. for some rare things in your country.

Hi,
As TDK SF ended, Super D just came after it. I think it was in terms of production costs. TDK says in the 1994 catalog that the SFs have a cartridge made of high temperature resistant material. D Super will probably be a classic material.
I buy audio cassettes every month. I know the condition can vary greatly, stickiness, mold and other serious problems make audio cassettes just an unusable collectible anymore. The storage of cassettes by various collectors and dealers over the years of their life is always an unknown. :-)
Also if I may ask, how do you evaluate used cassette tapes to know that they're good to be used?
Those are nice looking shells and the blue tint is definitely different since I usually have the smoke grey ones lol
(Now off to Tony's Toy Chest, but I swear to God I do NOT have the cash for a storage locker full of Hot Wheels...)
a cassette comeback video, yay
Great video as usual. Did you keep that nice little Dual deck?
It's my main playback deck.
The TDK Super D is on D60, D90 and D120 cassettes are very excited
Great to see you again!
TDK Inital-D. Sad about the Nak and the Reeves. But can't wait for your toy chest channel to take off.
Hmmm.... New Cassette Comeback video = insta Like.
It's slightly sad that you decided to clear some of your deck collection. But I like the choice of decks you decided to keep. What about the AKAI GX912? I liked that deck, been looking to get one, sadly they are too expensive at this point.
I simply don't need all those decks. Stick to 3 that I can keep working...
You got some nice hotwheels.
Tdk used to make a very nice 90s, very low loose floor.
I am not sure if i have one in my collection of new tapes i have looked at them and wondered why they exist when the cd ing was a budget type 2 .I was collecting the vanguard models years ago when they were £6.99 they are now About £30 plus .
19:35 - Laughing out loud at that statement! I know just what you mean...
Tony's Toy Chest: Channel does not exist ... ?
I have some of them and the sound is good without transpor problems.
DS-X was basically an AR from what I've read.
What did Tony squeal at 11:30? Tandberg?
That's That infanouse lubrication breaking down a little. FIX. FF And REW TWICE. ALL FIXED. BUT. NO Your Right. I've actually had problems with all tdk tapes. These the lube dried up and the old SA the tape had dropouts ..
Could it be all the TDK smoked/tinted shells that are the problem
Tony Comeback !
Old TDK +4dB VU better than other casette!
How much will you be selling the Dragon for Tony ?
I love a super duper D
Has Tony sold his Dragon now? I was surprised he was considering selling it.
video starts at 4:56
I prefer the Japanese versions of the tdk cassettes I love the Japanese tdk logo it’s clean compared to its us version counterpart
Cassette Comeback's Comeback. Excellent.
Even trying three cassette deck my CD'ing tapes won’t fully erase.
@Andrew Littleboy
You need a more powerful magnet, bulk eraser.
Those
Tapes are trash
super d? must be made to record some Initial *D*'s *Super* Eurobeat.
oh this is super d but normal bias in usa and europe and austrilia the 2003-2005 ones. hmm i dont know if this is type ii the chrome or high bias. but interesting yo got super d in europe and austrilia instead hmm. i think vintage cassette website needs some updating though. for some rare things in your country.
oh so you got the 1997 2001 europe thing of tdk tape hmm.
Where can you get that winding tool you used?
The 1980s 😁
$25 for one cassette? Ugh bruuuh! Why's it gotta look SO COOL? I'm not paying $25 for a blank cassette lol
I paid $30 for a Sony ES case settle still have it sealed
