No. No one can intuit that stuff of nonsense without immersion in a cultural tradition. Regulation is not free. Regulation requires a surplus of energy to maintain a fixed dynamic and maintain it's motion. A completely dark void is perfectly balanced and changeless. A dead thing is more in balance that a living one.

I guess the point is that as the human race we have become accustomed to destroying the earth so that it fits our needs, and though this theory shouldn't have to be explained, its still a radical reminding that we cannot make the world fit our needs, but we must fit its needs.

Yes, and it always has been. But the empirical, materialistic scientific orthodoxy kills that instinct in humanity. It takes a bit of an outsider like Lovelock to help us remember what we already knew, but updated with modern scientific terminology.

just because calcium and magnesium are sustainable for bone density, that doesn't classify as biotic either.
water, however, replenishes your bodily fluids, and smooths your skin, because the human body is made up of 78% of water, so it needs it.

Thanks Paloma for your reply. You're correct. Point well taken. My heart got ahead of my head. Your remark helped be get both back in alignment with one another. Yes, the USA is only a portion of the Americas. Yes, this is a complex issue that deserved more than my brief surface reply. At the same time, there are SOME Native cultures on the planet that precedes James Lovelock and deserves to be acknowledged. If you study Native cultures within the continent of Africa, the Americas, and other parts of the world you will find that the concept of Earth as a living organism is not new. Nevertheless, thank you for your comment. It's truly appreciated.

I've been a proud Gaian for a good while now and it is, without a doubt, one of the most beneficial belief systems to endorse.
If this was taught in schools, rather than "mainsteam" religion - there would be substantially less violence, substantially less war and substantially more precautionary measures taken in regards to pollution.
Gaia is our beautiful mother. It's the only "religion" that makes any physical sense. It NEEDS to be globally expressed. For the good of all living organisms.

Does everything have to be condensed into molecular composition to be heralded of benefit and usefulness? I have just written a song and uploaded it to You Tube called Tears of Gaia. (From England) Sometimes you just have to go with your gut !!!! Isnt it obvious that we are destroying our planet and desecrating mother earths fragile balance? If we are all so aware of the connection with other life forms and have been for centuries why oh why are we on this fiery road to self destruction along with all other life forms on this planet?

I love the idea that the earth is alive. I like to think of earth like a giant plasma ball, as we step on her a line of plasma connects us to her core which allows data to flow between us, energizing us both. I believe its this separation that's causing so many health problems. The less we connect with earth the more disconnected we feel, which makes us over indulge in the things we enjoy, drinking, smoking, gambling, fucking, gaming, porn, sleeping pills, pain killers. nothing can replace the simple act of connecting with yo Mumma. Do it.
And go vegan, you'll love yourself for it, the animals you don't eat will love you for it, and most of all Gaia will love you for it.

Native people knew this from ancient times. This is not new. It's like Columbus discovering America. It's not real until an Anglo/Euro person documents it? Really? Natives in America shared this love and understanding of Gaia before European settles visited genocide upon 6 million of them. Native people in the USA are now less than 1 million. Honor Native people. They knew and know that the planet is a living being that is held in balance that "has deep roots in human tradition". That's the close we'll get in this video as a nod to Native people. Honor the truth. Honor Native people and their wisdom.

I totally agree with your sentiment Anthony Glenn Miller. I also think that replacing mechanistic models of life with this model of Gaia is a huge step in the right direction, and that's what Lovelock has been doing. That doesn't make it more "real" than it was before, but it (hopefully) does lead to less people imposing our small minded view of Earth and our place on it and more people doing something positive with this information. And in his books, Lovelock acknowledges those who have seen what he's talking about before he did; he doesn't attempt to claim the idea as only his own even, although he's elaborated and published numerous details about this hypothesis that nobody else had before.

The issue raised by Gaia was what is the scope of ecological science? Does it include geology and climate science etc?

America is a continent not only a country that believe to be the only country in the world!!! if you study a little bit, the Mayan civilization knew too much also, even when the Spaniards arrived to LatinAmerica and killed thousands of them and destroyed many sacred information that they had, I agree with you with the honor to the natives, in my country, Mexico, we had less than a million of native people and many of them are killing themselves because the goverment doesnt help them.

  • @Aridanx
    @Aridanx 14 років тому

It's a quaint notion that the world is in fact a single organism but that simply just isn't the case. For one thing the earth doesn't reproduce, which is a requirement of being a living organism. And from a less technical standpoint it is clear that humans are existing out of this self regulating balance. One thing that I do agree with about this theory is that the earth has the potential to shift from what we perceive to be the norm to a mode which would prove far less hospitable for us.

Yes, this raises a few relevant and yet more or less completely unknown questions. How does consciousness (especially the hard problem of consciousness and qualia) and life emerge from lifeless matter? If we define life itself as biotic, certainly anything abiotic is lifeless per se.
I suppose the idea in Gaia is that life is connected to (and indistinguishable from) Earth, so therefore one could say that Earth can do these.
I personally don't put much belief in Gaia though, just to be clear!

I suppose that similarly we are made up of carbon, hydrogen and a variety of metals (Cu, Zn, Fe...). But for some yet unknown reason we posess a feature called consciousness. Maybe it's just that our definition of life is wrong. If we dwell deep enough into the atom we will notice that even matter doesn't exist as such.
Not to say that this in any way proves the Gaia hypothesis, but it's just something to think about. Food for thought. I find it a fascinating and harmless concept though!

  • @americanliberal09
    @americanliberal09 12 років тому

carbon, hydrogen, and variety of metals are "sustainers of life", not life itself
in order for the planet earth to be biotic, it must have "complex thoughts", and "reproduction"(which planets cannot do).
plants are biotic, because they can "reproduce", and "absorb sunlight" so it can grow.
    can planets do that?

But I believe most of us have articulated the same idea and have reached the same conclusion with school level knowledge of ecology, the idea just seems too generic and conspicuous to be presented in scientific writing.

Truth in plain sight! Revelation 12
🦁If you calculate this year 2022 minus the year the 1st Mona Lisa died 1542=480 years, the same amount of time from Exodus to the rebuild of the new temple in the bible. She has started the rebuild. The 2nd Mona Lisa is the Bride of Christ, the Holy Spirit, the root of David, Queen of Heaven and Earth.
🦁the initials in her eye is her name initials
🦁the V & 5 sceneries are the 5 places the 2nd Lisa has lived in after marriage. 🦁The 12 pins firstly in a shape of a cup represents her surname
🦁secondly around her head in X-ray represents 12 stars just like in Revelation signifying her holiness. She was the 1st human female
🦁Triangle =The true trinity is Mother/Father God, Son Jesus & Daughter Lisa. Lisa meaning is God’s Promise.
🦁The right hand over the left signifies she is the right hand of God.
🦁The number under the bridge 75 is the year son of God was born in human form.
🦁His other paintings link the Mona Lisa to them as well, the crab sketch represents her star sign Cancer.
🦁The ferret and lady represents what the 2nd Mona Lisa was called as a child.
🦁Portrait of a woman represents her eldest daughter. Her youngest daughter is painted as saint Anne
🦁The last supper shows the Mona Lisa incarnation of Mary and the cup as her to be surname.
🦁The twist in her fabric on her shoulder represents Gods humour & twist to the biblical story, savior is female this time. Why? Coz the female was suppressed from day 1.
🔥the bible is corrupted but to salvation is follow in Jesus’s footsteps of goodness and spirituality. He didn’t agree on religion because it causes separation which is of evil. They want unity collectively no matter what race gender sexual orientation or colour❤️🦁
