Tiny's injury is one of the most underrated what ifs ever. The Celtics were hot going into the playoffs. I don't think they go down 3-1 if he was healthy
Even worse was Bill Fitch putting in Danny Ainge as the point guard in place of Tiny. Should have had Gerald Henderson at the point and Ainge as the off guard. Ainge wasn't a natural point guard to begin with and that was putting way too much in the hands of a rookie.
0:58 Anyone saying the Artest elbow was worst all-time. This is the same thing. That is full-on intentional full-on hard swing that just isn't talked about because it wasn't recorded up close in HD.
@@camoss3724 Please explain it, then. My understanding is that Bird broke his right hand on a bouncer's head in a Boston bar fight while celebrating the ECF win over Philadelphia with Quinn Buckner. He admitted as much to the LA Times in 1986 when he settled out of court. How does that happen to a star of his magnitude on the eve of a Finals they should've won to go back to back and then in '86 back - again? Hard to explain that kind of numbskull behavior. Bird' told the LA Times, "It's not easy being Larry Bird." Hmm. As for '83, Bird defended Fitch, publicly at least, when others mutinied. Did Bird? Did the rest of the team schism? That one's probably harder to explain - and they're not talking.

@@justanotherguy1794 That was definitely a good trade for the Lakers, but 1987 was also the year of little or no Bill Walton and the death of Len Bias for Boston. Combine that with the injuries the Celtics suffered that year (most notably McHale playing the second half of the season on a broken foot), the lack of a bench and the increased minutes played by Boston's starters and it's a wonder the Celtics even made it to the Finals that year.
1st. Birds 3 year? Not his prime. Hadnt even entered his prime yet. 2d. Loss to Bucks was best loss ever. REAL MATCHUP problems. Prompted them to go find DJ and from there they went to 4 finals in a row. Also, after loss to Bucks...Mchale stood up in locker room and puffed out his chest and said HE WAS PROUD of the team and they did the ebst they could. Bird immediately said BULLSHIT..IM GONNA GO HOME OT FRENCH LICK AND WORK HARDER THAN I EVER WORKED. Bird was just a oncein a generation maybe even lifetime type talent and attitude playr.

Imagine if they had kept Nick Galis...
Excellent video! Thank you for the facts and analysis. And you are SO right about Bird.

Thank you for the love!

I wondered why no one brought this example up when everyone was talking about Westbrook coming off the bench. And Brodie aint no Bird.
The Celtics were just a great team. Even before McHale became McHale and before DJ came along. Bird was just too good
No surprise that GOAT added GOAT Sixth Man to his resume.
Mans said "equivilate" 😆
I was wondering about that, too.
"To equate, to consider or make equal or equivalent (to, with)."
Even my spell checker doesn't know it.
1983 and 1985 are harder to explain.
I'd agree with 1983, but 1985 is pretty easily explained.

@@camoss3724 'Check Bird's '85 stats. 87 is the easy one to explain: 2 words. Mychal Thompson.
