I didn't know the devs changed that... Well, I only learned about luck after I had been using whatever torches I found for quite some time, discovering the fact that the Aether Torches I used for atmosphere in houses (the houses were essentially efficient apartments in stacks of 3 with no aesthetics) was reducing luck... It's nice they fixed that, although it would be nice to see people using the correct torches every time.
when torch god was introduced, I somehow missed it... hopped onto my world, was about to kill golem, went to the jungle temple and was fxxking obliterated by hundreds of torches at golem's arena that I placed before update. I was really questioning my terraria knowledge after this one
I try to get the Luck bonus as soon as humanly possible, because it helps by a small amount. In my Drunk World Expert Mage Run, I obtained it pre-Skeletron, same with my Summoner and Warrior versions. I would try to get it as soon as I had torches and an efficient method of mining, occasionally dying because I didn't make the arena large enough.
Its good that they deleted the negative luck of placing the wrong torch
