    For not being a prog rock band, Band-Maid put in enough detail in their songs to challenge one. Everytime I check the length of a Band-Maid song, I am amazed that it is only 3-4 minutes long. The best part of their songs, I feel no fatigue! Everything flows so well and the transitions are so smooth, I can go on and on listening to them

    Totally agree with everything! Musical Artists is one label that is a perfect fit for Band-Maid. It is scary how good they are across the board, from Songwriting to Drawing out incredible Tone out of their Equipment, to their Polished Live Production, to their Fearless incorporation of any genre of music into a unique track that provides the familiar and at the same time a sound that is uniquely and distinctly their own. I never thought in a million years I would find myself mimicking their vocal melodies in a language which is completely foreign in every possible way, that how good they are. As far as I'm concerned they are in a category of their own. I do enjoy some of the other talented bands out of Japan like Nemofila, Lovebites, etc..I'm a sucker for a good noodling session and Top Notch Instrumentalists but I'm an even bigger sucker of a Heavy Groove and Dynamic songwriting that is memorable. I feel that is lacking within those other groups and is overflowing within Band-Maid.

      @@RyanMear hey Ryan, I always enjoy your reactions and I'm sure you welcome comments that are honest opinions, I personally do not see the "genius" anywhere, I have to say the word monotonous comes to mind, I get no sense of anticipation or excitement when listening no emotional thread or surprise,after listening to several of their songs I get the same reaction,so what am I missing ? & I am a long time metal fan,Queensryche was it for me back in the day, and you know who it is now and has been for many yrs,but I can say this about BM ;they can play pretty good.

    • @RyanMear
      @RyanMear  3 роки тому +8

      It may not be for you, dude. There's one Queensryche song I really like. The rest...eh.
      What sets Kanami's writing apart for me is the LACK of repetition, oddly enough. Rarely are verse guitars repeated the exact same way. The chorus changes vocals and music each time around. It's subtle, but so nice to get something different each time around as opposed to what I'm used to.
      If you remove one instrument from her arrangements, the song could fall apart. Not so with most bands. I feel I explain fairly well in the videos, but that's a biggie.
      I can't, for the life of me, understand what the fuck anyone sees in The Greatful Dead. I also can't stand Volbeat.....at all. I really want to like Mastadon, but I can't get into them.
      Whatever it is, it's just my opinion.

There are so many great bands out there - especially from Japan - but I came to the conclusion that Band-Maid somhow is a league at their own, a one of a million band. Everything is just right on point and meaningful, from the composition to the musicianship, density, variety, timing, not to forget Mikus wonderful lyrics. They keep blowing me away since 2015 and I could just listen to Band-Maid all day long and never get bored. That alone is astonishing enough.

  • @drogonr9318
    @drogonr9318 3 роки тому +9

    Great reaction. This song hit me a little oddly in that I didn't fall in love with it until I heard the instrumental version. It often feels like Kanami writes songs that can stand on their own as instrumentals, and then adds the vocal layers on top. Maybe that's a reason why they often sound so dense.
    A song I think is an early masterpiece of hers is called Yolo. The MV is posted on their YT channel and is esp worth reacting to if you're interested in the development of the band's songwriting - because Kanami wrote Yolo as an instrumental prior to the band's formation (it might be her earliest piece of songwriting that became a Band-Maid song). Vocals were added at Saiki's insistence, but the band has released three versions of the song, including the instrumental, the lyrical, and even a Band-Maiko version. (Speaking of Band-Maiko, you really should check out Band-Maiko's Secret Maiko Lips next ... it's a song that will have you smiling for a week lol (it's also posted on their YT channel)).
    When I took the time to go through their catalog (I've now done it multiple times), the thing that stood out to me most was the overall quality (creativity, diversity, uniqueness) of the songwriting. This is why fans say, "they don't write bad songs." They really have raised the bar.
    (You should also check out Puzzle and Moratorium live, both posted on bilibili.com. Esp the former which is a personal fav, and a song that for some mysterious reason I never tire of listening to.)

    Another one of their fun/weird videos. They've got a few. Background on the video. This is the story of how Band-Maid formed. Miku is the first maid (red bow)alone and upset with her dead end job at a maid cafe. In comes Kanami (blue bow), probably a throw to her girl crush on Saiki, just chilling (in her own little world as is often referred to) on her phone (she's a big reader). Akane next (yellow bow, her album art, merch, etc usually has yellow as a background color. Looks at the like they are crazy (she's said to be the most "normal one of the group", sits on a chair (drum thrown). Enter MISA. Broom = bass. Head piece = long hair?? I don't know im guessing. Her out fit is longer = kinda goes along with her maid outfit. Saiki is last. The manager = they often refer to her as the boss. All upset = struggles they went through at the begging of Band-Maid?? Again guessing. May be nothing. All in order of when they joined. At the end they are all happy and together. Band-Maid is formed. Also side note...this was filmed at the maid cafe Miku worked. Band in one of the halls and actors in the dining area and locker room.

    I think the reason Band-Maid gets away with what would sound like utter chaos with nearly every other band maybe boils down to two factors.. First is that everything is perfectly harmonically planned. Thats what allows Misa to be all over the place yet still not sound like she's stomping on everyone, and why chaotic guitar lines under the vocal melody never sound off. The second reason is because these musicians are so freaking tight that there is no slop in the timing no matter how fast or chaotic things are. There is no smearing of the "space" to turn it into a wall of noise. It's a testament to how great these musicians are and how great of a composer Kanami is, including of course Misa and Akanes contributions to the compositions. I've listened to a ton of music in my life and I'm not sure I've ever heard a rock composer that can be so creative and yet so musical at the same time.

    Love band-maide, but always wondered why no reactors have done a reaction to dragon cry, i know its more a calm ballad almost in BM terms, but loved the song, its signal and meaning is not to misunderstand, and its all sung in english

    I got the feeling that Miku got the most fun out of this stage production !!----she doesn't need to study for some advanced degree in HELL-RAiSING !!!!!!

    Hey Ryan I know I have watched most of your stuff but I cant remember if you have done the live version of real existence is very cool with a little stage playing between Misa and Saki after Saki losses one of her heels!

    I can now say I have been lucky enough to visit this cafe!.....Unfortunately...the opening scene was filmed on the 4th floor (I believe) and that was shut when I visited..So had to make do with the 3rd Floor..But I have been there ..YAY!..I now have my Maids Master membership card..( Yes..having done the "Moe Moe! Kyun Kyun!!" bit..hehe!)..I hope I can return one day and use it once more.

      @@RyanMear I did feel abit of a burke Ryan..haha!..Hell I'm 55 in April!..haha!..But It had to be done..Miku's old work place was a must to visit while I was there...As I might never get another chance..And I would have kicked myself if I hadn't...It's a part of the MAID's history.

      @@RyanMear I had to pluck up the courage to go in as I was alone....If I had been with friends or just anyone really...It would have been easier and felt less awkward...But I was brave I feel and glad I did. I was surprised there was more older ladies in there than men!..Like buisness types..I guess they see it as a place they can relax, it being a female orientated place regards staff. So less likely to get harassed by men as they have strict rules as to what's allowed.
