I love that Cole is introducing "Heads Carolina", as well as Jo Dee Messina, to a whole new generation of fans with this song. I was a little girl when her original version came out, and this re-imagining just shows how timeless it is. Hopefully, this will go to #1, and I'm glad Cole got Jo Dee's blessing, as well as the writers of "Heads Carolina" (Mark D. Sanders and Tim Nichols).
As cool as this song is, can you imagine how much cooler it would be if the song was sang from the point of view of the guy from the original song? That is what I originally thought the song was about, and, not going to lie, I was a little disappointed when I discovered he was just referencing the original song, as opposed to placing himself into the original song. Though, like I said, with a few viewings I came to appreciate this song in its own right.
What I think is so awesome is how this song not only references the original, but also has the original superimposed in the background toward the end. I'm not even a big fan of country, and I absolutely love what they've done with this song.
Picture this!!!!!!!! Cole swindell and jo dee Messina at the superbowl ! She sings her first verse and he takes off with his song after......... tell me I'm wrong. I will be posting this on all Cole swindell social media till I get to see this!
First time I heard this I swear I got goosebumps. I grew up in the 90’s and I can remember when b93 played nothing but 90’s country. New favorite song, right here.
"Heads Carolina?" coming sincerely from a country girl raised in south Georgia, I sure felt my whole soul being sung to. Thank you Cole. I'm hoping you find me someday, I'm a 90s country fan, and I've got a quarter! xoxo ✨Aeh Monroe💋
I literally got chills, also. This is awesome I want to hear more classic country incorporated into new songs. The entire scene Cole described leading up to the lyrics from Jo Dee's song are great imagery and a cool way to put a mix on classic song.
I just heard this song on my way to work on Sirius Xm this morning, it has made my day! Once I got to work I listened to this song here, then Jo Dees original! It's going to be a 90's Country music type of day for this 42 year old! 90's music was simply the best, all genres, so many great artist! Thank you for this new spin but keeping the original sound!
In 2014 on my 2nd date with my now husband, in Ohio, Heads Carolina Tails California came on and I got super excited because I love that song. He just kind of chuckled. I forced the why out of him, and he said back when this song came out, he had said something like how his future wife was gonna be that girl/love that song. We've been married 5 years, and we live in South Carolina now.
I just heard this for the first time on the radio on my way back from the gym. I seriously had "Heads Carolina, Tails California" in my workout mix I was listening to just a few minutes prior. One of my all-time favorite country songs. Always been a Cole Swindell fan but this is some next-level awesomeness! Can't stop just hitting repeat and smiling :)
@ashley1994 To each their own. I like a mix of mainly older country and 80s rock when running. Jo Dee Messina was in the mix between Def Leppard and Faith Hill. Of course, lots of good stuff today too. Big Cole Swindell fan, and hearing him do this remake of one of my favorite country songs of all time is so awesome I just don't have words for how much I love it!
This song is a BANGER! Blending the best of 90s country with non-bro country. This made me tear up because it made me feel something unlike most crap on the radio.
"Bro country", Sir I think you mean Hick-Hop aka Rodeo Rap, and Yee-Haw Pop. 😂🤠 I maintain the trend kind of started with Rascal Flatts in the 90's making Country more pop-like, but boy do I miss the flare and twang from that era. Though Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith had some rock n roll to their style, Alan Jackson has a classic and timeless sound to him that was more true to the tradition.
@@RickGrimes807 oh buddy I could make a list a mile long. 5 O'Clock Somewhere is an Alan Jackson classic but so is Chatahoochee and Pop A Top, Tracy Byrd had Watermelon Crawl, Toby Keith has MANY famous songs, hell my own mother described him as an AMAZING entertainer so for him you want How Do You Like Me Now? Good As I Once Was, I Wanna Talk About Me, but if you want to go even older into country, you'll want to listen to George Straight, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash. Oh, some famous female singers of the time include Reba McEntire, Jo Dee Messina (love her), and some others, and I'd be an idiot if I forgot to mention Shania Twain! The truth is you'll have to do some digging but most anything George Straight is good, Randy Travis too! John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Chesney, and a few others had some love/romance ballads from that time period that were well known and I consider to be country such as "I Can Love You Like That" and "You Had Me From Hello". Rascal Flatts of course has Prayin For Daylight, These Days, Every Day Love, etc, they performed for 20 years and broke up in 2020, but they were a significant part of my playlist my whole life.
I’m in love! I swear. I’ve loved this song because it was essentially the definition of my life. This South GA girl got California (despite hoping for Carolina but I’d already lived there a little while). I wouldn’t trade that coin toss for the world. 😂 I love this version.
@Cole Swindell Awesome possum song! Love that you're taken such a huge hit from the 90's and given it CPR and brought it back to life through your fantabulous version which is sure to be a huge hit. At least it is with me 🥰. Nothing but love ❤️!
Found this song yesterday... Already know all the words... Proof why country is awesome... On my party playlist in order to educate my friends in the genre here 🇬🇧 Heads Carolina tails california was one of the first songs I loved when I discovered country music as a teenager without my dad's influence... But hey its all great music
Cole is one of the finest performers I have ever seen in concert (two weeks ago in Cedarburg Wisconsin) the way he honored Jo Dee before doing this song was awesome. Hey, for a special treat, listen to Jo Dee Messina's version of Silver Thunderbird......WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW😊😇😍😎
The first time I heard it, I immediately fell in love with it. The moment it came on, when I heard Joe Dee, I knew it was gonna be an amazing song. Very few songs do that now days
This popped up on UA-cam for me, yesterday. I haven't heard this on the radio at all, and I can't figure out why. This is an amazing song, and I totally picture Jo Dee and Cole doing a duet.
Crazy how I always seem to somehow forget about Cole but then I randomly come across a song of his and it seems like it's always fire. He is so damn good live too.
This single made #1 on country radio in just 13 weeks. Considering country radio moves at a snails pace, this is quite a feat. It's not yet topped the Hot Country Songs Chart tho, as Wallen and Combs have been keeping that title pretty much ever since North America began getting warm weather. Just Wallen alone has been at the top an estimated 21 weeks this year with four different tracks as of the end of September.
Heard this live at CMA a month ago now...absolutely fantastic.
This song has been one of my new favorites. Its just so good I love it so much.
COLE!!! THIS SONG ON REPEAT ALL DAY!!! Country music nostalgia WOWWWWW

I was in high school when that song was popular, good memories 💗
Is it just me, or does part of this song have the "Heads Carolina" melody?
"Sounded Good Last Night" is another hit from Cole in the 90s style.
This slaps!! As a 90s country fan I approve of this song!
This is a great homage to the original song! It reminds me of how much I love the original

It's so incredible hearing another man appreciate this song so heavily. I'd love Mashup at the very least. Them doing a duet would be the best
Love this rendition of this song. Defiantly should be a duet with a female artist. 🥰
Needs to do a duet with Jo Dee 🤟🏻🤟🏻. This song won’t work with anyone else honestly.
It doesn’t need anything, enjoy it for what it is
I listen to this on repeat like 5 times every time it comes on my playlist. Love it
