27 years ago in 1995 when this song was a hit, a friend and I were in training in Oklahoma City. At the end of of one day, when we were both tired and discouraged, we found ourselves at an intersection of Interstate 40. Sweet Jo Dee comes on the radio. My buddy kept a large amount of change in his cup holder. He reached down and picked up a quarter and smiled at me. I smiled back and said “flip it!”. He was from South Carolina. I was from California. Life just throws moments at you like that.
Haha, that's awesome! I grew up in NC and went to college in Wilmington which was at one end of I-40. I always thought it was cool that there was a sign as you got on the highway leaving Wilmington that said 2,554 miles to Barstow, California. Got my imagination going! 😁 Kinda reminds me of another tune, California Dreamin' ... Or maybe Going to Carolina in My Mind, haha!

Yep! Saw the latest country fest on tv a week ago, and it blows big time. Every turn used to highlight a different type of person and race, even if they and the song sucks. Have to have fat, disabled, LBGTQ? Male, LBGTQ? Female, trans sexual, rap, etc., even if they wouldn’t win a neighborhood talent show. Country has gone to Hollywood hell.
My British girlfriend played this song for me in my car and suggested we drive somewhere. No map, no plans, no nothing. A weekend we spend somewhere the wind takes us. We drove 600km until we decided to stop and spend the day there. It was probably the best fun I've ever had traveling somewhere. I like a bit of country music, but after this, I looked up a lot of country and loved it. We still do this today, 2 years later... Every weekend we set out somewhere, depending on how much time we got and at the very least, we eat out somewhere we've never been before. As someone who likes to plan things and make sure they go according to plan, doing the exact opposite with my girlfriend has been fantastic.
