    Legacy is an organisation formed to care for the partners and children of those who lost their lives or health to war. In my case it provided my mother with a self care unit at a well run retirement village in her final years. My father was an Australian Army infantry company commander in New Guinea. He suffered from the effects of tropical diseases and everything else that went with that awful campaign, and died at a fairly young. Legacy is one of those organisations that does great work, and gets things done without much fuss or attention.

      Legacy helps the Widows, Widowers & their children, where a partner has died during a conflict or has died from a health problem caused by that conflict. My Dad developed chronic life long health problems caused by fighting overseas during the war. My Dad died over 20 years ago & Legacy has been helping us. I go to a group every couple of months which is for grown up children of deceased veterans that have disabilities. They also have an under 18's group. My Mum & myself have been helped out a number of times. They always could do with more donations. In Australia 🇦🇺 our family is helped out Legacy Melbourne.

    Thats what we did on a Saturday night , with the whole family, in Australia. We sit back infront of the telly/tv mum and dad on the lounge/ couch , kids lying on tummies on floor with our snacks(sharing of course), and watch Hey Hey its Saturday. The best of times back then with the family and very funny with lots of laughs. I miss those days.

    I'm glad you've discovered and like "Hey, hey" Ryan. Although it started out in 1971 (?) as a Saturday morning kids' show it ended up as an early Saturday evening show that was arguably more suited for adults, I know plenty of people for whom is was a must-watch before their Saturday night out. And it was a favourite of the stoned - a pink Ozzie ostrich!
    From the very beginning of Australian TV there were comedy shows that pushed the edge. "Hey, hey" and Aggro simply followed on from :
    " The Mavis Bramston Show " - "Program Introduction"; "Male Fashion Show"
    Graham Kennedy nicknamed "The King" was host of many shows from the 1950s on - there is an 11.30min clip of "Graham Kennedy Coast to Coast" on youtube' there are also a few of Kennedy doing commercials live as part of the show: a dog food one. Heinz Soups; .
    Aunty Jack - known for the slogan "I'll rip your bloody arms off", for the song "Farewell Aunty Jack" and for "Aunty Jack Introduces Colour TV to Australia" (with a young Gary McDonald aka Norman Gunston as Kid Eager),

    Check out the action of Pluck as he rides the bicycle. Plucker is the comedy. The prizes are the advertising revenue for the show. There is so much more to Hey Hey . All segments. It started as a “ children’s show “ on Saturday morning, but as adults enjoyed the show more, they discovered the show was being recorded for viewing in the evening. So they changed some of their segments and cleverly woven adult material that could slip by tv censorship in the 90s. Darrel has a female co-host , the banter can be hilariously funny. The show ran for about ten years, from memory.

    BTW Macleay is a Scots name and is pronounced M'Clay, not M'Clee. There can't have been much Scottish migration to the US so you are unfamiliar with Scottish pronunciations, but we are quite used to Scottish names here in Australia.
    There was a famous Macleay in Sydney during colonial times. He was an important naturalist, in communication with Darwin, because he had the world's largest collection of Pacific, New Zealand, and Australian specimens of birds, insects, and sea-life, which became, after his death, the foundation collection of the Macleay Museum. I often drive down Macleay Street, and sometimes go past his house, which is also now a museum. An illustrious name for someone to have.
    As a bit of trivia, Australia is home to the only capital city in the world named after Charles Darwin.

    I just moved back to Oz from living in GORGEOUS sunny California ..... now it's winter here and my bare floors would LOVE some rugs!!! OMG I miss the "innocent days" of Hey Hey!!! (but yeah - what were the writers smokin'??? 🤣)

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh Рік тому +1

      Writers? They had writers? I had the impression that they had a rough schedule to follow, but the rest was unscripted ad-libbing, and that was the source of both their best and worst moments.

      @@artistjoh yeah you're probably correct. I've just spent too long in Hollywood-land where nothing is produced without "writers" ..... not anymore at least!

    Loved pluckaduck, was my favourite character. It's been known that sometimes when hearing or seeing something in disbelief one would say f....aduck in exclamation, so a play on words here was brilliant😅😅. I've still got my pluckaduck doll ❤❤

    It's interesting to watch all this old stuff Ryan and seeing how things used to be especially the haircuts, omg haha. , I used to watch Hey Hey, unless out on a Saturday night, I had a friend who was a train driver, one day I visited and he was tossing out a heap of old VHS tapes as had updated to DVD, he used to record all the movies and things he wanted to to watch as they would put the good shows and movies on at night and on weekends often when he had to work. I took those tapes home and still have them today. I could have full shows of Hey Hey, I'm not sure what is on the tapes. I will go through them one day and have a look and see what I have, as I know you love Hey Hey and Red especially if I find any hey Hey episodes I will let you know. I have the gear to convert them I'm a bit of a technology junkie. I still have 2 VHS recorders,, I kept a lot of the old technology from over the years as it cost me big money back in the day. I also have my old Commodore 64 computer from when I was a kid with games and all the accessories and the WII with all the good games and bits and pieces and accessories as well. One day I will sell it all to a collector, I have already had offers for the Commodore 64.
