  • The Us invasion of Panama is not well remember today, since so much of US foreign policy now focuses on the Middle East the invasion of Panama is often overlooked. But during this invasion the Americans found very unlikely allies in the form of Van Halen and the Clash.

I knew many people who were there.
Noriega was an ally until he wasn't.
The CIA had set up off shore banking to hide funding for black ops in the Panamanian Banking System.
They got upset when Noriega invited Drug Cartels to bank there to launder the drug money.
Noriega was convicted in the media because he was filmed on an airplane full of drugs that was being flown by a pilot named Barry Seals.
Barry Seals and his buddies were part of the Iran Contra affair. They were flying guns and supplies into Honduras for disbursement to Contras in Nicaragua.
It all fell apart when one of the planes was shot down over Nicaragua.

It's a fascinating event! It's tied up with so much else. Especially considering Geogre HW Bush was head of the CIA when Noriega was an ally but president during the Invasion.

When I was a UPS driver this buff, bald, and long, brown bearded man was throwing away the trash outside of his apartment and came up to talk to me about how he was wanting to work for UPS but it’d interfere with his veteran assistance money. We started talking about his service and he explained to me that he was in Panama during 1989-1990. He explained the hardship of reintegrating back into American society after seeing one of his best friends killed before him and having the man’s brain matter all over him and how the combat was nonstop and he originally stayed awake for days without sleep in a firefight. When he came back to America he told me it was one of the things he lost from his combat experience; the comfort of being able to sleep.
Really sad story, I tried not to tear up when he explained everything to me but couldn’t help it. War is evil no matter where it is and who it’s with.

Don't worry can I take fair criticism. What I'll say to that is I don't just use Wikipedia I tried to use a variety of sources. But a 1 minute short means I only have 200 words to word with. Although I try to had little details the onscreen text. If you want to see something more in-depth I have longer videos too which allow the historical details more time to shine!

    • @Warriorbob-im5py

It wasn’t an illegal coup. Noriega lost the election and refused to cede power. Then he had his forces kill an off duty American marine. He was threatening to seize the Canal Zone that was legally the United States’ property until the year 2000.
