    One of the best things I have always liked about the UK version is the fact that they gave bad news off-camera out of respect for someone; the US version does not do that. The UK Long Lost Family is class from start to finish!

      I feel differently. I like that the US version reveals news that a loved one has passed away on camera. It gives viewers who are caring about what is happening to feel sad for the person receiving the bad news, but I respect the UK version's way of handling it.

      @@carriejames5038 They always tell someone their loved one has passed away off camera. The only thing I've seen them say on camera is when a loved one they are seeking doesn't want to meet them, but like the US version, they do not put that refusal from the other person on camera.

    I am a person who was adopted at birth, and was extremely fortunate to have met my biological mother. I truly appreciate the way this show is done. They are very respectful to the adoptee and the biological family. I can't think of anything that's exploitative. I especially appreciate that the lost family get to reunite alone. I had a good relationship with my biological mother for about a decade, now she's since passed on. I admire the bravery of the adoptees and the biological family involved in the process of reunification. 💜☮️💜

I was lucky enough to live in the general area where I was adopted. I also lived in the capital of my state, so there were many state, local, and university libraries in which I could research. I was a child of a poor marriage. Mother left at 3 years old and never came back. Many years later, when she was in final months of Hodgkins. I met and forgave her before she died. There is no happy ending to this story. My only older brother resented the fact I met her and discontinued his relationship with me - such was his bitterness. I'm not married through the scarring of it. My Father remained in hatred of her throughout his life and died many years after her and I guess resented my contact too. It hurts. It's dysfunctional and I can't re-address this. Never leave your kids. It breaks everything and everyone involved. Sometimes going back isn't the whole picture this show represents. I only wish it was so.

    I love watching these long lost family shows. I personally have 4 biological girls, 2 adopted sons, and 8 more kiddos I took guardianship of. I maintained an open adoption for all of my children, whether adopted or in guardianship. Identity, via familial contact is and was hugely important, for my all of my kiddos. These re-connection stories instill in me that open adoption was definitely the way it should always be.

      The truth is a good grandparent (parent) will never do anything like this. My grandfather was shocked when he learned that his younger brother criticized his daughter for giving birth outside of marriage. My grandfather literally said "I cannot believe that he treats his own daughter like this". You can excuse everything with "it was a different time" but the truth is time has little to do with it. You are either a loving parent or you are not.

    Steve definitely has the right mindset for an adoptee. Sad that his birth mother had already passed away. When his half-brother says, "I wish Mum was here to see this", I want to give him a hug and say, "Oh, but she IS ! And she's probably over the moon, knowing now her two boys are finally together!! " :-)
    Don't you feel like Corine's father would so be regretting his treatment of his daughter, as soon as his soul crossed over when he passed away? She was his child, and when she came to him pregnant and scared, instead of showing her unconditional love, all he showed her was judgement and scorn. So he never met his own grandson. What a shame!

    It is good that the man did not hear about his mom adopting two kids while he was still a boy , that would have been too hard to understand . The fact that he has kids of his own and learned she could not have more kids , really made a difference to him , you could see the emotion he felt (or , he's a good actor if this show was made up drama to make a buck ?) . At 15 years old , she did not give him up for adoption , she was forced and the baby was TAKEN away . Shame on her parents for not doing the right thing and raising the child with her until she was old enough to do it . My brother got his girlfriend pregnant at 15 years old , their son was born premature in 1974 at 2 lbs 13 oz's , it was the most intense time of their lives and they had to move in with our family of 6 kids ( I was 12 ) . Our mom was also pregnant with our younger bro so the brothers baby was older than his uncle , lol . My mom said after raising 6 kids 1 after another , it wont be so bad with 2 babies in the house , and it wasn't bad at all . I cant imagine what my sister in law went through at 15 years old , with all the stress but they are still married to this day and had 2 more kids way too soon , but they survived .

    Corinne is such a good person! She has suffered so much. It breaks my heart, what society and the culture of the day did to those young girls.
    I know it's unpopular, but I'm ok with abortion, I'm ok with adoption, I'm ok with keeping your baby but only as long as it's your own will and not someone else's. It's devastating that she had no say at all. And she even didn't know she was pregnant! Sexual education in schools was definitely badly needed back then. Everything was so preventable!

    This is one of my ALL-time favorite shows.
    These people are so brave I am grateful they share such personal moments.
    I am a recent viewer never knowing this existed ( or even a U.S. version.)
    From your experience do they ever show any negative cases? Where one side refuses to meet? or when they meet there is a negative end ( scorn, anger, judgement?) Or the child tells birth parent they had a rotten adoption?
    Im not loking to see sufferring but, I'm on my own journey and I am terrified of rejection.

    • @Serenity_yt

      There are cases were the child went through the foster system and got abused and such and also often parts of the family that dont want to meet them. In one Episode they didnt really mange to find much bc it was in Sri Lanka and one women already found her mother who didnt want anything to do with her before the show where she searched for her father. But in almost every case there was at least one family member happy to have been found and give the searcher that closure. At least from what Ive seen. The thing that mostly goes wrong is the parents already being dead when the child finds them.
      Edit: But its unlikely they use every case they start filming so could be there are more failed attempts then we realise.

    I really RESPECT those children who's been adopted and then doing good later on in LIFE ... what I hated are those ungrateful children who after knowing that they are adopted bore grudges to their adopted PARENTS and go wayward their life on becoming harden criminals...
    It's heartbreaking to heard the news that after barely two weeks STEVE died ... his brother ROB found out the news a day after he passed away when he visited him.

      I think we need to remember for every case with a happy outcome there are others that don't end happily. My bestie met her son whom she had given up and they bothe had unrealistic expectations of the reunion. At times they both were VERY nasty to one another. Perhaps they should have been introduced to one another via a professional. The expectations were partly as a results of shows like this .... Everybody always ends up happy. Nobody told them what could go wrong.

      @@CurlyCrowie My father left our mother with 4 children aged 8, 5, 2 and one was only 10 months old. Never heard from him. He never sent money. We found him after 33 years of no contact. First meeting was very emotional and he didn’t lie to us when we wanted to confirm what we had been told about him. Second meeting was a disaster. His true colors came out and he was a selfish, narcissistic womanizer. My husband used to tell me before we met him that he didn’t care about us but my response was he may not care but he can’t forget he had 4 children. Turned out he got the youngest ones name wrong. He called her Kathleen… her name is Kathryn… speaks volumes doesn’t it?

      On legal documents in the UK, Spinster is the Normal,if archaic term to describe an unmarried woman, regardless of age..You have been reading too much cheap fiction! Lol. Once you come of age, in the eyes of the law you are a Spinster, until you marry.They can hardly write 'Hot Babe' can they? Lol All it is saying is that she has not been married. if she had, it would say 'divorced married, , widowed or whatever her current status was.

    The natural father of David.... since there was no mention of a boyfriend, I would guess that whoever got Corinne pregnant at 14 or 15 years old, below the age of consent, was older, and exploitative if not a violent rapist. Sad how people blame the victims in child rape situations, as Corrine’s father apparently did

    • @asantewa3
      @asantewa3 3 роки тому +7

      That's a lot to infer. Maybe he was also a teenager, why go to the absolute worst possibility?

    • @RMBlake007
      @RMBlake007 2 роки тому +1

      As asentewa3 also says, you are negatively assuming quite a lot. That is not a good thing to do. To assume that Corinne was rap3d by a "violent rap1$t" is disrespectful to Corinne, and not honest as you know nothing about her situation. I can imagine that maybe she & another minor were "fooling around" & she became PG without even knowing what she/he were doing. It's sad that people assume that someone was child rap3ed by an older, exploitive man when it may not be remotely true. I hope you can see that there is some good in the world; not everything is evil.

    I am just watching a story from the U.K. now. The man searching has learned in tv that his mother who was inky 15 when she got pregnant died 15 years ago. He is crying. There us a half brother who lives only a mile away. The half brother knew his mother had given birth and was too young. She wanted to keep him, but her father was adamant. The half brothers look very different. This is in the UK version,so your facts are not correct. I am from the US, but have only seen those from the U.K, and I love the stories.
