After sampling multiple wedges last year, I thought all hope of improving my short game was lost; I think the only wedges I hadn’t tried come July were vokey, ping glide, and these. Needed my 100 yard shot so I gambled on the CBX in 50 loft. Well, in my bag today are the CBX in 50, 54, and 58. Total game changer for an amateur hack like me. Don’t overlook them if your wedge game is an issue

I've had the 54 CBX and 58 CBX wedges for over a year and my short game is generally excellent. It is the strength of my game (currently a 6.5 index). In particular I think they are better for full shots than the Volkey and Mack Daddy wedges I played previously. But they are great around the green also.

I use the 50, 54 and 58 degree CBX wedge. I like the big sole that helps the club glide across the turf and makes them easy to hit. I recently replaced the steel shafts with steel fiber shafts to make them lighter since my club fitter said they were too heavy for me. My regular irons are Cobra F8 one length with steel fiber shafts.

This is why I love this channel. When I bought my set of M4 irons (4-GW) my thoughts for SW and Lob wedge immediately gravitated to Vokey, Callaway, TM or Ping. I’d heard of Cleveland wedges and the CBX in particular, but I never seriously considered them. So, how is my wedge game with my “players wedges”? In a word… Crap. Yup, I’m tragic around the green. Why? Because for some ridiculous reason I couldn't swallow my pride and play with wedges made for players of my caliber. May be time to revisit that decision.
Great video Andy! Keep telling it like it is.

    Sorry for the late response.
I just bought the Wilson D9 irons. I took the SW and PW set, and ordered the GW in same specs seperate.
They do not have a lobwedge. I am now looking in a 58/60 wedge for the bunkers as I truggle with thoses. I saw a Cleveland Smart Sole used and hit a few shots with it and it went great. Searching for those I got here :), It's even bigger than this one :D

Hi average golfer great video, last year i got fitted for new clubs and so wanted the vokey wedges, i got fitted for CBX irons and my golf pro guided and fitted me to the CBX wedges and I love them, so easy to hit and they hit the green nicely, feel really confident standing over the ball and now i know the distances i really enjoy and look forward to hitting them during a game, in 10 months with my game improvement irons and wedges my game has improved and i have dropped 9 strokes of my handicap. Happy golfing Cheers Aussie Dave

I bought a seven iron length lob wedge 60 degree/ 4 degree bounce and it was very easy to use around the green. Great for tight lies in Oz. Cost $60 US approximately with a graphite shaft. I was looking for a single length set of irons and found them at Milford golf in Victoria Oz. Great value and performance. Most wouldn't consider them as they are not a name brand.

Good point..but for me it’s not about ego . I test clubs before buying them in the shop and most cases also on course with a demo club. I have an open mind but when it doesn’t hurt my game I play what suits my eye. If it suits my eye it gives me confidence...and golf is a mental game and in my opinion for a great deal based around confidence. For example tested a sure out but my MD PM grind does the job just as well and with more versatility around the green 😇

I can assure you that these wedges are the business! I play off a 4 handicap and to be honest I was embarrassed to put these in the bag.
I took a chance and put a 50° and °56 in my bag and it's the best club decision I have made in years.
I feel like I can hit 2 inch behind the ball and still not dig into the ground and duff it. Let me tell you this gives you a lot of confidence.
I previously had the tour trusty wedges which are brilliant but the leading edges are so sharp despite 10° bounce and if you hit just a hair behind the ball your coming up short.
Even though these wedges have a wide sole they're still versatile enough to open up and not bounce up and skull the ball.
Do yourself a favour put your ego to one side and buy some of these. I've had these now for 3 month playing in soft conditions and now firm conditions and they won't be coming out of the bag for anything.
Oh and at address they look no different than your standard bladed wedge.

I play three wedges from Ping line of Glide 2.0. Really like them. They help you a lot of the way. My wedges is my absolute favorite clubs to hit. Calm swing and lovely flight. You get to enjoy every move of the ball at a close distance. Wedges gives me so much motivation to play the game. I like them much better than the driver. Did play the SM5 Sm6 and SM7 for a while, but Glide 2.0 is much easier to hit, but gives me a nice feel and experience.

After I up graded my clubs to Srixon Z 785, sold my old set,TM R7's . unfortunately I sold my sand and 60' wedge with it and I was lost with out them, they were my strong part of my game, gave ne confidence. I looked at all the fang-dangled new wedges and not happy, with the fee nor the price. so I change my mind set, in that I though,I can use any wedge and practice enough till it is comfortable, confident and predictable , just as my old ones became. so now I used a $8 used wedge, after overcoming the feel and difference in weight , I'm now getting the results I used to get with the old ones.

Most forgiving wedges on full shots I ever used were Muzino JPX 52 and 56 degrees just did not like the feel on short chips felt bouncy off face but still checked up good.

Andy, being 60 years old, my swing speed down to 85 with the big stick, and not getting any younger, I’ve come to the realization that I should play with what works. Not what looks good in the bag. I went to senior shaft pretty much throughout, and just got a set of M-CGB’s for higher launch and all that. I love playing forged and the feel that comes with striking it pure. But when it only happens once or twice a round, time to move on. I looked at the CBX’s, but I prefer (for now) the PM grind wedges. I guess they fall between a players wedge and a CBX type. Now, if I could only stop paying big bucks on putters...and premium balls!

Brilliant video Andy... as always ;) As all clubs in our bag they are chosen by the level ur traveling to in ur game.... not so much where exactly u are when u buy them. Some clubs keep at ur hcp ... while others in learning process get u 10-15 shots with each club to improve and lower ur hcp easier. Even if clubs are functioning in most ways and easier to hit at "regular" type of shots of course ;) BUT buying stuff should rarely be about where u are NOW in the game unless u plan to stay there. Luv ya ... ciao from Iceland :D

I have tried them and was very happy with them and the feel, my mindset was that they are a scoring club so why not use help to get scores lower in the wedges too particularly as I scramble a lot. Have since been custom fit with ping g410 irons and have got the wedge and utility and sand wedge all 2 degrees flat and with the same shafts as the rest of my irons. I won’t lie to you, I have had to play a lot and practice a lot to get used to them and it’s not perfect yet but they are winning me over along with G410 driver, wood and rescue.

I have the PW of my Z785 but opted for 50 Vokey/54 PM Grind/58 PM Grind. I did so because I generally only hit partial shots with my higher lofted wedges and they tend to be much better around the greens than set wedges. I hit pitches and chips much more often than I hit full shots with wedges, so I chose my setup based around those needs. I honestly could probably completely do without the 50. I rarely hit it.

I would be curious how the CBX compares to set wedges (in my case the Ping G400) - particularly the SW and LW. Average Golfer started the video talking about set wedges and keeping it simple - I have never heard anyone say what the main differences are between the set wedges and something like the CBX

I’m saving up for them right now (48, 54 & 58). I’m too old to let my ego get in the way of enjoyment. Having said that, I currently play with Mizuno MP T5s, and have never had a any consistent problem with them.

Yeah I think I am a golf snob too.
Play off 13. Play Ping i210 irons and SM7 wedges.
I wouldn't even say my iron game is that strong. Yet... I just cant bring myself to try or use the Ping G irons. Maybe I should try a 2nd hand set as an experiment myself.

Really like where your are going with these videos. I would say you are the only one talking about game improvement clubs like this out there .
As I said on your last video I have taken my ego out of iron play and play xr os for a year and half and have help me on my way down to 5hcp
    I play mcdaddy wedges 50' 54' 58'.
My wedge play would be very strong part of my game so haven't looked for help there.
I would recommend anyone to look at the weakest part of there game and see what clubs could help .
Everyone even the pros look for the help in there drivers and long irons . So what's the difference in amateur looking for help right through the bag
