The leaderboard system is by far my least liked feature of the game. I would love a complete overhaul or removal of this system, on that doesn’t, as you said, “pit players against one another”
As someone who has been free to playing around since launch, One thing i'd add to this whole thing is how irrelevant I find the leader boards in HREs, as i've never once paid attention to them or felt like they made a signifcant impact on my experience on way or another. As long as I unlocked the character and get a semi decent quality boost on them by the time it unlocks, how i compared to everyone else, plus whatever trivial additional rewards I got extra for "competing" were entirely meaningless to me. Truth to tell when I saw people on the discord commenting on how this bug "ruined the leaderboard" my first reaction was suprise that anyone cared about it. I suppose this is all just further evidence to why they might as well scrap them and find a better system.
my position on the leaderboard in previous HREs has made the difference between unlocking the unit at Epic, or just missing out, even though I put in the same work and resources each time. Instead of the leaderboards encouraging me to engage more to get that Epic unlock, it's had the opposite effect, I now engage with HRE less, and take what I get.
It probably effect only 1a hand fall of players, mostly those going for legendary or extreme min maxing. Position is mostly irrelevant but the whole even design obscures that
Same here. Like, why care so much about the leaderboard when you can unlock a character. It doesn't make a huge impact. I'm too lazy to care about the leaderboard, all I care about is to unlock a new character be it bronze or epic coz eventually you'll grind for it either way. 🤷
It's been a general consensus for most players that HRE quests are a boring chore. And banking energy not playing is bad design. Survival mode of Titus is a good mode that could replace current HRE. Now that Nandi spoke out loud, maybe SP will start redesigning HRE... In 3 months, like for Orks...
I am probably the only person who is curious about this but I wonder that the target number(percentage) of players SP intend to have legendary unlocks. 100% agree on leaderboard issue on HRE. I can live with arena, it's semi-pvp type anyway. But definately would like to see HRE and survival type events get away from leaderboard system.

Onslaught is often a slog now, and sometimes grinding is annoying, but I see the game getting more complex, and rosters getting stronger. I don't like leaderboards. I never considered banking energy before, and that seems the opposite of fun. I see that these game mechanics push people towards paying stuff or spending tons of time, and with getting stuff for free, the prices really seem high. But they always looked like whaling. I like the energy refresh for the ad, I consider that fair. And I like that I can open characters for free evenually.
I'd like it if maybe we had community wide point thresholds that improved the daily rewards, that way everyone can benefit from doing better in the event.

personally i never felt like it was needed to hoard, if you just do your refreshes the day before right before the event starts +max energy, and use through 110 refreshes you can get the new unit to Epic, which is way more than any gatcha game i've ever played will give players for new heroes, i did hoard for a few days for this one for the first time since nandi said to though lol, lets see how much farther it gets me (bad test with all the bugs but o well) The ranking system could be made better if instead of ranks you just have breakpoints for amounts of energy spent to give you certain payouts every day, this keeps things consistent with an (hopefully) increasing player base I also am still very impressed by SP's communications and speed at resolving issues. Totally agree that energy hoarding should be stopped. Why would SP want players to NOT play their game for many days? And change the HRE so they are less of a grind and don’t require you to complete loads of missions. Then there won’t be the incentive to hoard energy.
I’ve had more fun with the survival mode than anything else in Tacticus since launch. I would not mind all future HREs to feature some rotating game mode
First, I’d like to thank you for bringing to light how being a Dev is a thankless job. “Nothing is good enough”. Second, I’m a Hoarder (I hoard for less than a week). I proposed a potential “fix” in Daydreaming called Unlimited Energy. Make energy unlimited and make Raid Tokens for BS purchase. SnowPrint would need to give notice and reset everyone’s Tokens. Often I’m locked out of the game because I refuse to buy the 250 BS for energy. I buy the $23.99 BP so why can’t I play unlimited? Thanks again for this video. I’m glad SnowPrint rectified the event bug.
You’ve made the situation clear. Very well explained. Either way I think whales are always going to come out on top as far as positioning in competition type events such as the HRE. If you spend, you can bank energy more, or just buy more offers, or both. I think people trying to compete/compare with whales are always going to feel inadequate or ripped off. These sorts of FTP/PTP games need to be fun for the individual as the biggest spenders will always have the coolest stuff, and it’s not worth comparing against.
I had the issue, but it's has not been a major problem. And had not affected my experience or gameplay. Though it was weird receiving points just like that. Survival Mode, on the other hand, has being really, REALLY fun. I think it's a Game mode that should be more often in the future. The scaling difficulty it's great and encourages to impprove how you position and strategy with the characters. So far, it has been great from SP part.
Good call that it is time for a system overhaul. I would ideally like to see a game mode for hero releases that has a skill and upgrade check, which could look like survival or a character quest or something similar. Obviously there would be extra bonus packs you could purchase to progress further. If it was set up properly, most players would be able to unlock at rare free to play. The high end players could unlock at epic free to play, with legendary requiring good progress and purchasing a pack, and wings needing to max out a difficult game mode and purchases. That would mean no need for a leaderboard, and negate any need for any energy hoarding in advance.
my f2p perspective: I'm using the 50bs energy daily and only very rarely the 110bs. optimizing for mission completion by eg. grot farming, getting the 21. bonus mission is no issue, even when farming mostly elite missions. depending on the amount of 110bs purchases, id get 47 or 50 event tokens daily. either way falling just short of epic ascension, hence not worth the bs. if the character is worth getting to g1, a couple of onslaught honours take care of that. with that said, hording energy leading up to the event never occurred to me and when thought over, is (most likely) a net loss by sacrificing the regular energy generation, as the leaderboard is generally irrelevant in that bracket
I don't intentionally play to the leaderboard in the event but I am frustrated with it not working correctly or reflecting my progress correctly. It isn't take my money and go home bad but it adds to the frustration.
I was still awake when the event lauched so got a start on the first mission. I did think at the time that I had gotten far more rewards than usual for what I had done, considering that I'm just playing this without any of the "creative management" that folks are using 🙂
The Leaderboards are absolutely trash. For many people it's not gonna change anything since they have no chance of reaching the higher brackets and the lower brackets are so huge they'll also not drop. The brackets are also completely uncompetitive since you will be sitting in the same kinds of brackets for the vast majority of your playtime after you reach a certain level of progress. On top of that they are also making the rich richer, giving those with higher levelled heroes more stuff to level new heroes more quickly and thus cement their place in these leaderboards. On another related topic, once you reach a certain progress only legendary orbs matter, or maybe some epic ones, but the rest are worth less than garbage since their forge system is also unusable. Yet the game continues to give us uncommon and rare orbs, even more than when we needed them and we cannot even sell them for coins. The game seems designed around the pre-release state with a few thousand players and 4-6 factions, yet we get new imperial heroes all the time so much you can barely farm any badges. The main source for badges and orbs is also Onslaught, a mode that is designed around rotating faction upgrades (you gotta level some Imps to gain Chaos badges, then use those to gain Xenos badges, and with Xenos Onslaught we get Imp badges, closing the circuit). But we have such an imbalance that you'd probably max out several xenos before you can get the imperial badges you want for the onslaught of new space marine releases.
The bug happened to me a second time after the supposed fix happened. I logged in, had a short download, then when I went to the Lucian event I gained enough to unlock 4 more chest levels for nothing.
Thanks for sharing this essential video. I’ve been playing since near the beginning and love the game. But I hate this event and it and burnout from too many events is making me consider whether I want to leave the game.
Broadly speaking I agree, but I also don't try to compete for leaderboard positions during events. Expecting to have a fair shot versus whales is silly. So I don't particularly care if a bug skewed a game mode that is supposed to favor them anyway. If they decide to make a fairer unlock event, that would be great, but I would never expect them to do that, because that would be a noticeable hit to their income.
HRE's have been the worst part of playing Tacticus for at least the last year, sadly. I'll get my epic 1-star unit and then never use it again, unless I somehow pull it enough times to get it to legendary (or within a handful of onslaughts, anyway). My poor Tyrant Guard sat at [G1 epic 2-star] from his HRE up until he had his battle pass, nearly a full year, because I never pulled him once... In that time I bought the whale blackstone pack once and did ten tenners last January to celebrate, so it's not like I didn't try to get him either lol It's just two of the three systems we have for hero acquisition suck (scrolls and HRE's, I *adore* LRE's), and we're all praying for some change to come along and help us out -That Maladus Guy
I miss more Campaigns to farm characters the classic way. With that being said, I think Campaigns should cap characters based on the mission so they always result challenging to all players and more advanced players cannot simply rush them.
I had the same thing with Mataneo. Logged in and got enough points to go from epic 1 to legendary. 20 minutes later they disappeared and back to epic 1 haha I actually think everyone should just get the character at the start and then you can do challenges with the character. Forcing everyone to upgrade them from the get go. Not like me who ignores them until I need them
I think the biggest issue with HRE and leader boards in general is that they all massively favour long term players. At the end of the day the best way to keep growing the player base is new players and when you are always stuck languishing lower down the board that is not likely to make you hang around.
The HRE is the exact reason we get lots of characters and not as many Campaigns. They make alot of money. And they support hording energy, because the first 3 energy refreshes doesn't even cover the free energy you would have got, so they make more. As far as the "Bug", I'm not concerned. Everyone will end up with more in the end. SP can give alot of in game stuff away and it's nothing to them, because the game is built on never hitting the ceiling. The missions definitely need a revamp though.
As long as I have the opportunity to get the character at epic for free I'll be fine with most changes. At minimum though the leaderboard might need to be swapped to a percentage based system so it isn't affected by player count fluctuation.
Nandi you might need to look up the word rambling, because that wasn't it. In a game designed like this, it seems like you are trying to encourage someone outspending someone else. If there wasn't a leaderboard, could you still use (deplorable) mechanism to monetize the game?
Cold do a version of the 3 day qwest but as a campaign long one for the character . First area comon rank, secend area uncomon, 3rare, 4 epic, and 5 area Legendary. For the 3 day characters qwest feal shold be before 2 weeks character event for that character to se how he funktions and work.
Usually I only care about unlocking the character. Which if you get as many energy refreshes as you can as a f2p, and optimized your gameplay with the event missions in mind, was easily do able regardless of the leaderboard and daily drops. Not this time. The only reason I started caring was all the entitled hoarders complaining so much, like they had their allowance taken. SP's "fix", handing those who didn't play the game leading up to the event a bunch of freebies, has since pushed me down the leaderboard and now I'm getting fewer drops. This despite SP saying that those who were helped by the bug would "have nothing taken away from them". Every complaint has always been "I'm not where I SHOULD be." like it's somehow owed to them. Couldn't let those of us who just enjoy the game have anything, it seems.
I welcome creators finally speaming up to sp. Instead of agreeing and saying free stuff is good. Like with every time SP did poor job. But creators had to be silent because they would lose their position
@@Nandi40k Yeah, you made it really nice, i didn't see any negativity there, great job! Also, i really wanted to ask you (as it affects me and thus very important) if you decided on your idea of SM2 videos? I left a comment under one of your videos explaining why is it not the best thing to do. I fully understand that you are doing your own thing but in this case it would mean that you are popularising the game that will bring money into russian war budget.
This isn't related to the topic of this video but is there a possibility that snowprint can make a Horus heresy version of tacticus I would love to to see saul tarvitz, macer varren and garviel loken fight mid heresy Abaddon, kharn, and ahriman
I agree that HREs aren't great, but they are also not awful. I don't like leaderboard systems when players are not directly competing with one another (And even then they have problems if you can get better rewards for alternating between winning and tanking when leaderboards are stratified like in the arena), but one thing I love about HREs is the fact that I can (mostly) just play the game without having yet another token I need to spend. Right now we have a quest, survival, and HRE all out at once and.... Oh look Guild War is coming up momentarily. Dude, that's just too much going on at once. This all needed to be spread out. No more than 2 of those 4 things should be going on at any given time. I said HRE is mostly just play the game as normal but there's one big caveat: quests centered on Win X number of campaign missions. Given the variable nature of the cost of missions, it very much incentivizes not playing elite missions and not advancing elite campaigns if you are on them which feels counter intuitive. Sure I could probably still do those and finish in time, but because the leaderboard exists, finishing those quests sooner is important which means I'm back to running mirrors instead. Once upon a time I used to even just run early indomitus mirrors for 5 energy (I know there are missions with less energy but the 5s still give SOME reward with it). Those quests need to move to Spend X energy or better if they can set it to Spent X energy on winning missions.
I just quit over this. They make us compete for points and rewards only for this bug to happen. I save energy and spend money. No longer will they get a dime or time from me.
Only people that can afford to hoard energy, are the people that have all the relevant characters at or near max. If you do not have characters maxed out and are hoarding energy, its just plain stupidity. The leaderboard systems for everything that isn't pvp related, does not make any sense to me from a gameplay standpoint. The only reason they have leaderboard systems for the PVE events like this is so people will swipe, which means that they aren't gonna get rid of it unless they input another way to make that money. With just the premium pass and the daily blackstone I can sustain my bs by doing up to the 110 refresh, but I am never gonna swipe for anything more than what I consider supporting the devs. If $20 a month is not enough for them, then stop doing blow off of clown boners or whatever weird shit you're doing that requires you to have more money.
Not a big fan of HRE. Hope they replace it with Survival and maybe cycle with game modes in the future. If they could make it so that you can play and earn character shards based as a guild that would be awesome. And I would not mind if they placed caps on characters that reward points equally regardless of cap level. So if you choose common you would get an equal reward as they Diamond III meta chasers. Think this could be one way to lessen the advantage top guilds has over newer guilds and players.
They are not going to change it. Either way people are spending blackstone for energy and thats what they want. They don't care if it's unhealthy habits. The bug was annoying, but it will be forgotten in a month. All the leaderboards are just win more, they all need to go. But it's never going to happen. The HRE one promotes bad habits, the survival one has been tied to a ridiculous event crate unlock (seriously top 1000 if you don't want to forced to spend more for the needed oaths.) And I assume the top guilds would be in riots if the Raid and War ones went away. But you already get more so enjoy that widening gap between the haves and have nots. The only leaderboard thats worth a damn is the TA one for the level playing field. Except it isn't, because it is a mode universally despised by the majority. LRE's are liked by everybody, and hey look it has no leaderboard.
SP pretendent nothing happening and Im #$# mad!!! Thx you have tackled this! And Hope SP will compensate us this event + im scared for changes in future HRE cause whatever they do it will be money grab for sure!
I don't see a reason to overhaul a game mode due to a one-time bug. I don't like competing with other players for points, either, but it seems to be a necessary part of monetizing the game. If you don't like the current HRE system, what specific changes would you like to see? That isn't covered in the video.
I think the leaderboards fail specifically and obviously when you bring up how the boards get less generous and generally worse as the game becomes more popular. They're like a dumb safety valve to prevent the game from being too popular by maximizing dissatisfaction as the number of players grows, encouraging people to quit.
Skill-based leaderboard - accepted. Wholly paid-based leaderboard - seems to be accepted. A leaderboard that scales worse the more players try which leads to real feels-bads (not even counting bugs) - [nobody likes this.] When I was a new player, HRE was a godsend because it was a guaranteed character when the roster was very slim. I would not like that excitement destroyed for other players who are new (some of which chat about how awesome their new character is to try out because for awhile they have been playing with base characters). So, it's hard to make definitive statements on character releases. As predatory as the HRE system feels, I've been a part of gacha games where a new character release meant opening your wallet for the chance to get that hero. That doesn't make this right, but the core of the event where a new character is showcased and then acquired by every player no matter how far they are in their Tacticus journey isn't bad. However, the sentiment seems to be "open your wallet a lot during the event and you might get it to legendary before the event is over with." If that were changed to "most people can get this character at a usable (read as: epic one red star) state and those who open their wallets get this character as a legendary unlock (with the hardest core getting that coveted blue wing), I think people would generally be happy.
I gotta say the Titus/Lucien drop at the same time has me feeling frantic. I also don't understand why everything needs a leader board and rewards based on position, reward me for effort, don't clearly favor whales like this
Hoarding is imo sooooo bad for the hoarding player. You lose a lot of progress, and even if you are a total whales you still lose. Still, I realy apreciate you talking about how flood is this one. It is realy shit. We dont need brackets for this kind of event.
The issue is that for HREs the weekly chests have a variable character shard payout. These payouts are only influenced by your Leaderboard position for the week. So while I don't care about Leaderboards for their own sake, if there is a character I want to get and use and want as high as possible, I have to be aware of the Leaderboard's role in this.
@@MidnightHozz To be fair i was mainly talking about leaderboards from a standing perspective. I take your point and agree about payouts. That could do with modernisation
People care about the leaderboard??? What??? Been playing since month 3 or 4 or smth and never ONCE has it even come across my mind as even marginally important... Because it is not! I've gotten most releases to epic once I had my first few silvers, with ad + 50 refreshes and the occasional 110. I've also never once heard of this "hoarding" strategy. Sometimes I feel like scouring the community for the most "optimal" strategies ruins the perception of things... Like in this case, where two completely pointless non-issues are front and center for the community.
Just because the leader board issue hasn't affected YOU doesn't mean it's pointless. And energy stacking before LRE'S has literally always been a thing. Sounds like you don't pay much attention, and then assume other people are like you.
I think its funny that people gaming the system and not playing the was it was intended to be played got burned the most. Also funny that while you are complaining about the system you are getting resources for all your linked accounts and sitting in second place... =D
I have no problem with people playing the game for free but my god the amount of complaints from people that admittedly spend no money to play the game blows my fucking mind.

In that time I bought the whale blackstone pack once and did ten tenners last January to celebrate, so it's not like I didn't try to get him either lol It's just two of the three systems we have for hero acquisition suck (scrolls and HRE's, I *adore* LRE's), and we're all praying for some change to come along and help us out
-That Maladus Guy
I actually said pretty much the same thing after doing the adventure of fluffypuffz after the mephiston event and wrote that down in maincord
Thank you very much for making this video.
20 minutes later they disappeared and back to epic 1 haha
I actually think everyone should just get the character at the start and then you can do challenges with the character.
Been playing this game since the early months and I swear it’s like the developers just add to the problem
Well said brother, Hydra Dominatus!
It didn't effect me much because I don't horde energy but I agree it needs improvement
Thanks Nandi
Appreciate you doing this vid
Although last time Jayce made this kind of video he dissappeared...
Not going anywhere. Hopefully the video came across fairly measured rather than an attack..?
@@Nandi40k Yeah, you made it really nice, i didn't see any negativity there, great job!
Also, i really wanted to ask you (as it affects me and thus very important) if you decided on your idea of SM2 videos? I left a comment under one of your videos explaining why is it not the best thing to do. I fully understand that you are doing your own thing but in this case it would mean that you are popularising the game that will bring money into russian war budget.
@@LayronPK probably won’t do them
@@Nandi40k Greatly appreciate it, really
Well, we just had the Survival mode which, to me, is leagues more engaging than classic HRE
I just quit over this. They make us compete for points and rewards only for this bug to happen. I save energy and spend money. No longer will they get a dime or time from me.
I hope the HRE mode is going to be reworked completely. The missions are tedious as hell.
So that's what happened.
I was wondering why I turbo unlocked chests after just a few missions when the event started ._.'
I wouldn't be surprised if the survival events become the new HRE'S.
Player1579 is in my guild and is as far as i know the biggest whale in the game. this footage has caused me to question reality.
And I though i was playing the system by only leveling up right after the event starts to get +130 energy right away
Kate Middleton AND Mistress Nandi!?
My points reset? It said I had 24K yesterday and then it went back down to 18K so yeah😅
Nandi, we with you. Kick devs harder, maybe they’ll dosomething 🤘🏻
Oh this is not by design? I was absolutely bamboozled by the flood of points i got after doing some campaign raid farming.
SP pretendent nothing happening and Im #$# mad!!! Thx you have tackled this! And Hope SP will compensate us this event + im scared for changes in future HRE cause whatever they do it will be money grab for sure!
The guy you mentioned at 04:50 had more than 1 million points... not 100k ;''')
A leaderboard that scales worse the more players try which leads to real feels-bads (not even counting bugs) - [nobody likes this.]
When I was a new player, HRE was a godsend because it was a guaranteed character when the roster was very slim.
The leaderboard is just something to ignore. Just they way SP intended, I'm sure. :/
I gotta say the Titus/Lucien drop at the same time has me feeling frantic. I also don't understand why everything needs a leader board and rewards based on position, reward me for effort, don't clearly favor whales like this
At this point I just hope the next survival mode doesn't include a DA character.
More importantly: Get rid of those missions "use 150 abilities" its sooo disgusting
This is coming from the person who is currently 2nd on the leaderboard
I doubt they'll change much. They love money
FIX YOUR GAME SCOPLEY , I mean Snowprint !
Mobilegamer is that you?
I don't mind leaderboards but the reward need to be less reliant on this system.
Because these sort of system are still easily bypassed by cheaters
Both events have been a shitshow.
Hoarding is imo sooooo bad for the hoarding player. You lose a lot of progress, and even if you are a total whales you still lose.
Still, I realy apreciate you talking about how flood is this one. It is realy shit. We dont need brackets for this kind of event.
NANDI! Choose an Actus code for your next sub milestone and my ref code is yours!!
I've been hating the Hre for well over 6+ months. Am roughly 1 year into the game. Everything about the hre is a annoying af and feels like a chore.
Bro is currently in the top three on the leaderboard, come on man
Hate the game not the player!
I was mad about balancing in this game then i realize this is a gacha game lol.
Honestly who cares about leaderboards...
I came here to say that exact thing! Who cares about leaderboards.
I don't get why people are making such a deal out of this, really.
So basically, if you are a whale you are just crying for no reason (spend over £100 a month on this game and still see no issue)
Too much to play in the game.
Guild war, arena and two release events. Don't have the time to even use all the free stuff
I think its funny that people gaming the system and not playing the was it was intended to be played got burned the most. Also funny that while you are complaining about the system you are getting resources for all your linked accounts and sitting in second place... =D
Energy hoarders are trying to break the game because they are f2p leeches. Don't cater to them lmao.
I have no problem with people playing the game for free but my god the amount of complaints from people that admittedly spend no money to play the game blows my fucking mind.
