Me, in bed, half naked, eating cheetos, listening through my phone speaker: *now that's what I call tone*

The half naked part is the problem. You can only hear well when dressed properly!

Cheetos in bed? you animal
Only half naked? Amateur.
You guys made me buy so many pedals over the years, I feel like I should have shares in your company.
To my ears it's a clear win for the UAD
Been gigging the Blue Sky for a couple of years now. Still love it to this day, sounds amazing to me.
I'm still waiting to go back to work here in the UK and videos like yours and That Pedal Show really help drive the blues away! Bravo chaps!
Hey @andertons music co : the reason the effect stops in the Sping 65 mode when you change the decay is that there are 3 distinct spring lengths for each mode (A, B, C). So the decay knob in the Spring 65 mode is not continuous but basically a switch between the 3 spring lengths. When you switch between the spring lengths, the reverb effect resets. It's laid out very clearly in the manual ;)
Yeah it would be an awesome comparison if the manual was read a bit more.
@@TheDryes I wonder where the deficit is. Maybe they do so many demos that there's not enough time. So maybe they need to hire a technical writer to craft really easy-to-read cheat sheets from the manuals
Yeah but can you turn that "feature" off? If not, it makes it pretty annoying.
This reset is super annoying, even if documented.
I watch the Andertons videos almost daily and I live in California, Lee seems like such a great guy and one of the reasons I watch. Glad to hear they have weathered the storm.
UA is deeper and more realistic.
The Strymon Flint would have been a better comparison since those are modeled off of vintage reverbs as the UAD is.
But the FLINT spring is mediocre at best

FACTS
Just close your eyes. UA wins
yes this
all the 10 best reverbs in line
There's something very pleasant about the sounds of UA pedals, even compared to Strymon. Great job from them again!
You guys should do a video where you go through all the amps on the back wall..... A little quick shootout and summary of what you'd use it for
Greetings from Los Angeles! I love your videos and your vibes! This totally sold me on the Golden, just ordered one, thank you guys so much!
How do you like it after these years?
UA is killing it lately. Tor, James Santiago, etc. they have a dream team right now.
this comment aged well, because the dream became a reality hue hue hue
Man these guys need to read the manual for the UA! The decay knob on the Spring setting chooses between 3 different size tanks. That’s why the knob acts different than the Strymon decay knob. 🙄
That UA Golden seem to have more of a “soul” quality to it. Love the playing Pete!!!
The Strymon sounds alright, but has been outclassed here in terms of reverberation realism and warm analog guitar tone.
Very true, I found this video looking for blue sky reviews, I'd never of the Universal Audio pedal,. I've been wanting the strymon for months, I only got litterly about 20 seconds into this video and was like yeah the stymon sounds like a toy compared to this. I'm sold on the Gold.
I've got the flint and I find the spring unusable on that, it's just not a great sound.
The Golden really has that sound. I find some pedals alter feel and tone when placed in the chain. Even the ones that tell you their true bypass with an all analog signal and tout they don't. I haven't had a chance at the Golden just yet, but I have owned the Strymon Big Sky and Timeline. I find the Strymon actually enhances the tone when placed at the end of the chain. The golden is on order, so time will tell. Hoping for the best.
I have a ton of strymons, tonf o big pedals, golden is th eonly one that actually passes audio signal thru when the power is not plugged in.
Honestly I have both been trying to pick one and sell one. But I think they are both great in their own ways. The UA is maybe more up to date in terms of fidelity…but I think strymon sets better in a mix.
I’ve noticed that with some of their reverbs. Might not be earth shattering by themselves, when you are practicing at home but in the band it’s beautiful.
Are you selling your UA? I'm looking for one
Its everything 'wrong' with the BigSky mk1 that make it so damned beautiful
I’ve owned the bluesky and now own the UA golden. I strictly play the acoustic guitar. I quickly sold my bluesky because it didn’t sound natural on the acoustic. It obviously changed the sonic frequencies inherit to an acoustic. But I don’t hear that with the universal audio. It’s room verb is very natural. It sits right underneath the mix. It’s noticeable enough when off but not so much when on. My two sense. It’s a win for me.
Hi, considering 🤔 both pedals for my acoustic set up, both my gigs have the LR Baggs Anthem what's your take on it, where will song best. Especially in a live mix plugged into a PA
UA's Golden Reverberator is incredible! Awesome demo!
UA gets the gold imo
But credit goes to that guitar...
The Strymon is 8 years old but add to that the chips are 12 years old. the UA is current state of the art.
I can easily hear the detail in the clarity. The UA pedal was held up because on the prototype guys brought in for a blindfold test could tell the difference between the real spring they were cloning and the pedal. When they got it finished no one could hear any difference.
Wow. Can you tell how you know that? I’d love blind a/b for so many of these (their ‘pick the real X’ tests show that.
At the 14.14 mark when the Strymon kicks in I can only hear Dream Theater-esque cleans. Gorgeous!
I like the Surfybear pedal better. Nothing beats having a real pan.
the shimmer on the stryman is phenomenal
What about the Free The Tone Ambispace? Realistic as they come! Is that a PRS Paul's Guitar? Gorgeous
I’m sure the UA stuff sounds great........but that BlueSky......for the music I play, it’s heavenly.
It’s mod reverb is my favorite reverb sound of all time.
For realistic reverb like for a Guitar the UA and for synthesizers the Strymon
This video is embarrassing to the Strymon, UA on a whole other level, WAY cleaner and more blissful
true but there is also a ten year difference between these pedals. I think the strymons are 96khz where the UA not releaseing specs, ANYWHERE, basically proves its a 44.1 or 48khz pedal, which is unfortunate.
The immediate impression is that the Blue Sky sounds duller throughout. It took me less than a minute to come to this conclusion and that didn't change during the video. The UA Golden Reverberator on the other hand delivers what one expects from expensive studio quality gear. Nice comparison!
Can you do a review on the UA Reverberator vs Neunaber Immerse Reverberator MK II Reverb? That would be a cool comparison! Thanks!
I think the Bluesky has a signature set of sounds/tones, whereas the UA is more of a 'classic' set of tones. They are different. I could use both but would go with the Strymon.
And the winner is!!
Neunaber Immerse Mk2 for small pedals and Chase Bliss Audio Automatone CXM 1978 for big and expensive pedals!! :)
I think the hall on the strymon sounds very natural. The plate and spring on the UA are clear winners, and the UA is pretty damn good on the hall too. Probably can’t go wrong with either but I’m picking up the Golden.
Both of them are the best at their purpouses...I have the blue sky and I just love it
I have the Strymon Big Sky, and I enjoy the washy ambient verbs on it, but I'm thinking about getting something else for shorter verbs like Hall and Plate. I'm just not finding them very pleasing to my ears. I haven't heard this UA Reverb in person but I'm wondering if it would be the answer.
Ive got the Flint, the Golden and the F-stop, I like the Golden spring the best but dont like the three tank settings instead of a decay control
I'd like to hear these reverbs compared to the reverb on your favorite fender amp.
The Spring Reverb and Plate on the Uniersal Audio is a madness
The UA Plate sounds so good. It will eventually end up in the loop of my Power Station.
So damn good
I know it’s a comparison, still both sound incredible. Depending on what was being played I liked one over the other.
Reverb is my favorite effect, and being the proud owner of the Strymon BlueSky I feel nobody does it better ! The Source Audio Collider has very nice reverb effects as well and being a dual-pedal with delay also makes it my #2 choice.
Try the Chase Bliss 1978 reverb if possible. I know it’s super expensive but the reverb tones are otherworldly. But I also love the Blue Sky and The Collider and you really can’t ask for more than the tones they are able to provide.
@@jordandangelo180 I watched a video with Mick & Dan on that pedal show and they say the Chase Bliss was by far their favorite. Through my stereo rig the Strymon & Source Audio sound superb ! If I played in a band or professionally I would definitely get one, but playing at home for my own enjoyment it is a bit tough to justify when I have the Collider & BlueSky already. It was the best sounding reverb in Mick & Dan's review in my opinion as well. Thanks for the suggestion :}
So I am already so involved with the eventide H9 Max and black hole ,, but also I have a boss 300 pedal reverb and I have a ocean's 11...
I need it to get something a little different for a separate pedal board each one of my pedal boards has these units on it and the even tide being my stereo pedal board but I was trying to make a decision between the stryman and the universal audio I just bought a pedal just now I just bought the stryman..
See you guys putting it straight,,, the application that I mainly use it for Bass and especially fretless which is mostly what I play for the solo stuff that I do stryman
Dear Pete and Lee, why didn't you use the pre-delay knobs on both pedals? In case of the strymon it changes especially the charcter of the room significantly. So you could have a cathedral-sized room reverb with shimmer on top, which is gorgeously angelic. It'd be nice to know if the UA pedal could do something similar.
I agree. The Pre-delay and High damp can tame some of those 'tones' they were hearing.
i agree
Man... I really hoped you would put one left and the other right and hear both at the same time.
As always though... Good Stuff
would like to hear a comparison of Universal Audio and the Neunaber Immerse (a forgotten goodie)
That's the one that has me "stoked," lol. SO MANY great rev. pedals to choose from!
Mines in a box in a wardrobe....I'd forgotten I'd got it.... I'm going to get it out and rediscover it .... Mark I I should add
You can roll off the highs on the Strymon to get the plate the same. It has the hidden functions. Check the manual.
I Agree Besides, UA is is different settings, not in bright mode.
I have a blue sky coming I am excited
well played Mr Pete - very tastefull - and its nice to here this and all the pedals in former videos in "real" use! I handle all these effects like "salt" - I don't put a pound of salt in my soup. IMHO
I tried both but the Ventris by Source Audio was my choice. Neunaber Immerse MKII was right with the Ventris....some options even richer sounding but the ease of use, options, tone of the Ventris really made it #1 for me. GFI Specular Tempus maybe produced the richest sounds but was more cumbersome to use and did not have some algorithms I wanted.
I think the universal audio will blow the source audio away
@@realtruenorth I've played the UA unit and think it is great. I liked the more expanded reverb options of the Ventris
@@2010njdevil yeah. It's versatility vs narrow focus on quality.
@@realtruenorth Yeah, well it never is that easy because because of the options that flood the market. There is a reason. Both the Strymon and UA units in this demo are limited in options. UA is still a newbie in the market place in the pedal format whereas there is a reason why a Strymon or Source Audio have been in the game for 6+ years. I think the "top 3" in the 3/4 reverb category may best showcased with UA vs.Walrus Audio Fathom vs. Dark World by Chase Bliss. It was foolish for me to have brought the SA Ventis in the discussion because the Ventris is in the top 3 with the Strymon Big Sky and Empress and GFI Systems With all of them being far more lush and tweakable than. In the end, it subjetive opinions in the market place. Pete said it best........ "There is someone for everyone in pedals..... the great thing is that there not 2 pedals that exactly the same because what would be the point in that". The market is booming in options!
@@2010njdevil but being new to pedal format means putting tried and true algos into a pedal that have been around for years and received a lot of praise.
Iv used my big sky for years , absolutely love it, so this weekend I tried the Golden just to hear it for myself as like a lot of big sky uses I love reverb. WoW there is no comparison the golden is in another class!, its true world class studio reverb. I wont talk about a comparison because its not fair. I also tried another 5-6 different verbs just to hear were they all sit, they all sound great with clouds of shimmery ambient space or lots of presets (Illumine) it really depends what you want. So I bought the golden straight away, What this reverb does to my rig is simple amazing everything sounds so much better, i stopped playing after 30 seconds & could not believe I sounded that good!!, all my other pedals. guitar & amp sounded so much better. If you get the opportunity try the ambient spring setting on the golden WOW!! its just a class above anything else Iv tried .This is the best pure reverb pedal Iv ever tried hands down there is no hype its that Good!!.
As a long-time user of the BlueSky, I think the UA verb has a bit more detail going on. I think the UA also has a better spring sound. Having said that I think that the room sound in the Strymon is slightly better.
Agree with Pete that the UA seems to have a more sophisticated and realistic-sounding spring simulation.
Source Audio True Spring, youre welcome
Sound nice, but the best I've come across is the Blue Nebula by Stanley effects. Fabulous reverb plus it can also emulate accurately every tape echo machine ever made, including the super rare Miazzi. The old Yamaha magicstomp also takes some beating for its reverbs.
Can't go wrong with either, but because the UA has more variations of each type, which all sound good, I think it has the advantage.
I have the blue sky and feel it is ok but I haven’t been running the mod it seems to do the modulations very cleanly but the UA spring and plate by themselves sound more dynamic than the blue sky. Sometimes I feel my blue sky is to digital sounding.
I just bought a UA for that exact reason, even the Big sky has great tones but they all have a digital feel to them, they feel far more modern. The UA sounds more like a classic reverb, maybe less versatile for that reason but in my case I just want plate and spring.
I personally picked the blue sky because i like more modern reverbs. I feel like they should have compared the UA golden to the strymon flint which is much more of a nice vintage reverb that the UAD golden is modelled off of.
Just bought the UA GR!
The UA Golden is next level!! So much more natural sounding.
Sounds like the Strymon isn't connected right, as the clean sound is coming from the right and reverb more from the left...or is that the stereo interpretation of that pedal?
As much as I would love BOTH of these 2 pedals, and even though they are probably of noticeably higher quality, I still have my heart set on picking up the Fender Marine Layer
I have the pedal. Love the sound, it's really good, but doesn't get anywhere experimental
I have the Fender Marine and a blueSky on my board. They’re both great.
Sorry, the UA pedal wins for me. Surprisingly! Great pedal!
I have a Strymon Blue Sky and Nuenaber Seraphim Shimmer. The Neunaber shimmer kills the Strymon. No comparison. and even the reverb in the Neunaber ..just sounds like the magic. I believe the reverb in this Nuenaber is the Stereo Wet. PS; that UA is a huge pedal. Not as wide as the Strymon but it looks very long top-to-bottom.
Fender, in 2x12 format since around mid ‘65 😄
Great review with headphones on. Am I the only one to hear some talking in the background around 23.25 ?
The lex 224 is my absolute favorite UAD plugin! I am super excited to hear it in pedal form, but you glossed over it just listening to room mode. Shame 😭
UA sounded better to my ears!
The Bluesky is just great
Just bought the Big Sky!
very easy wish one is shipper? Thank for great comparison.
afterwatch idsay: both beautiful reverbs! Like two different kind of caves, or...;
the strymon brings reverb of the skies, with wind/ clouds/ sun/ rainbowy intermix colours addin in; almost sounds like waterfall jampedal divin reverb;
whereas the UA reverbs more like on grounded areas, like in caves, venues, rooms, on grounds of earth; more even return and less ‘interference’. Love how they understand the copper brass color of soil as golden.
airy and plate. 👍🏽😀🎶
Good pedals, but expensive. I'll spend £19.99 on a Behringer reverb - which sounds ok - and spend the other £300 on bad habits.
those both sound so good
Still dig the Bluesky, the modulation is incredible, shimmer, just not getting the ethereal reverbs from the UA. The UA wins with the "natural" reverb winner.
Any idea why the Strymon seems to decay into the left channel?
Ordered the UA reverb and their delay pedals from Andertons.... because I now live in France and there is no Le Andertons here.
Be interesting to compare them to a actual spring reverb.
blue sky still got the drip... also, the walrus r1 should have been included in the match!
UA seems a little more bassy...or it's just my headphones. But I think it sounds a little better than the Strymon but it's very small. But the Strymon modulation is so good!
The issue I have with Strymon modulation is there is no adjustment. The rate of the Modulation on Strymon is fixed and is a little faster than I would choose. No way to change that setting that I am aware of.
To my ears it is like comparing my TC M2000 to my Lexicon PCM81. In this case the UA is the TC and the Strymon the Lexicon. Both are great, but I love the way the Lexicon can blend into a mix.The Lexicon just sounds more "musical". Same here. I think the Strymon has something more, than just a reverb sound. I prefer it.
But, the Strymon Flint should have been a contester here. That one is on my list, before these two.
Shortly, I don't like the sound of the UA. My TC box makes it better than this. If you like the clearness and airyness of a TC reverb.
My thoughts,
Hans
The UA has more clarity, more finesse in a way, where the Strymon is more enveloping. IMO...
Wow the Golden is awesome and to me sounds better than the BlueSky however will the UA be around in 10 years still in the top 5 best sellers like the Strymon?? I’m not sure, but wow it’s very good.
Strymon is coming to a close. They lost all the OG players to other comanies, and now its just Pete, the master, and the weird dude with the soul path who is the sales agent. Strymon is about to be gone. They barely make anythign new, just make "black" versions of their wold pedals, and a plugin- which takes no effort to port. Pretty sure UA will be around and making master level strymon esque pedals in ten years, if any of us are still alive... what with global warming from the meat industry.
Man, I have a Big Sky and I LOVE Strymon... but for whatever reason, I have a definite stronger emotional response with the UA. It makes me feel more. No idea why.
This reminds me of the difference between the Prince of tone and Duke of tone. One is slightly better quality and has more forward presence. Both are still great!
I know this was kind of a battle of the big boys but it would have been nice to throw in a wild card like the GFI system Skylar in there. It would have been nice to see a more budget one for kicks.
F Gfi ugly as s pedals
Thanks for this video. I picked one up today. I'm gonna go home and hook it up with my Dane!!! Thanks guys. Great video...
The Golden is the reverb of choice of Andy Wood and his tone speaks for itself.
The Golden sounds smoother and full. The Strymon is a little abrupt and abrasive
You need to do the Source Audio True Spring pedal.
Incredible!
did they ever sort that problem on the ua golden with the knob tweaking going back to zero yet?
whut
I wonder how the Electro Harmonix Oceans 11 compares to these pedals. I see raving reviews about that pedal and wonder if it is a hype or not.
Really not in the same league
Its a great swiss army knife. I have a ton of these reverbs including golden, the Oceans is such an incredible little swiss army knife. Ton of tertiary functions as well, tremolo, chorus, delay, so many things going on in it...
The BlueSky is 11(!) years old.. While the UA sounds very nice, I think it's going to be quite some time before my Flint gets kicked off the board.
Strymon wins for the plate modulated reverb, but overall UA is better sounding, more clarity/richness at the same time
7:26 that aged well...
Ohh soon there with be a "midnight verison" too YAY!
This video is two years old as I write this, BUT, as I am most interested in the plate, why did you not look more closely at the manual? A little down from the image that is labelled, "Plate A, Plate B, Plate C," there is a table that shows A is a bright aged plate, B is a dark aged plate, C is a modern full range plate. But you ONLY experimented with C. Anyway, it's the best plate sound I have heard.
We need more reverb!!!!
“I hate the Strymon…but it’s sounds great!” 😂
Why you hate a pedal co. that makes pedals in the US?
Thanks for comparing now i am really Helpless and lost of choosing going to check Oto Bam as well than i will have a sleepless night
I’m hearing modulation too
The big issue with the UAD is i can get that in the box, and its not much more complex. Its also more competing with BigSky, both in price and features.
The BlueSky Mk1, i have literally never looked at its manual. And its the compromises they made for the old processor that seemingly make it so special sounding.
The UAD is definitely a 'Better' reverb, like the Eventide H9000 is a better effect processor than the H8000 or the H3000.
But i know which of them make my heart flutter a little when i hear it, and its never the 'best' one.
Mr Captain sir, would it be possible to put up some regular - non fitted white tee shirts with black logos ( and maybe even some other colour for the logo) as surely I would buy some. I really dislike fitted tee’s and I presume I am not alone! When I have my whities on, I’m chillin!
