That groove is deeeep👌🏼
hahaaa Austin you're a legend... at what point did you go "mmmmmm!!"??
as soon as he started groovin lol
haha me too man me too! surprised you didn't enter the most recent playalong contest with his track! I must thank you btw because I wouldn't have been able to do half the things I did to record mine if it wasn't for your video series and it ended up getting featured! Keep killing the game braah.
oh wow, that's awesome man... congrats! for some reason I usually find out about these playalongs way too late to jump on board. i pretty much just learn about them when I see everyones versions of it and then I'm like welp, I'm too late haha
He’s unbelievable. Love his playing after decades of Tony Thompson, Omar Hakim, Ian Paice, Simon Philips, Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith. Ash is up there.
The pleasure he takes playing that two-bar loop on and on. What a fabulous groove.
I love this guys shuffle grooves. Reminds me of the great Jeff Porcaro
exactly! The clean sound too. I'm a Jeff fan since I can remember, the go-to drummer for me. Lately Ash Soan is getting on my radar too (although I know I'm quite late to the party lol)
Exactly! I just saw his drum clinic organized by Zildjian and he mentioned his three main influences: Porcaro, Bonham and Purdie. All well know for their shuffle.
Andreas Steenhaut You were there as well! Nice hahah
Yessss...this could be an updated Boz Scaggs tune actually! I'd only love the hats a bit higher in the mix...
Yeaaah... That's why he sounds similar! I've been thinking who he sounds like and this is it, the great Jeff porcaro
Imagine being so good at playing time that no producer would dream of trying to shift your beats on the grid?! That’s where Ash is at!
such a good way to put it and a truly underrated skill, especially in the era of machine beats and whatnot!!
Bravo! You are one of my favorite drummers - You are the definition of " in the pocket" And this is to a pre-recorded track! Thank you for posting.
What a great shuffle! His fills are so musical! Great recording as well! I see the Audient in the rack! The Hihat sounds just amazing! The love the ending!
I would die for Ash´s playback track! Sounded like a mix without effects. That would be very educative to listen to. At least for me as an audio engineer. I worked for 20 years as a live sound engineer and everywhere i started my work listening to this track to find out how the venue sounded :)
Watching this video made me realise the multitrack has been leaked online. Google it and you'll find it, I've just downloaded it and it's amazing to hear how the track is put together.
The atmosphere in this studio/room is amazing!
#TheWindmill
Extremely tight & groovy - amazing drummer!
This studio & it's atmosphere makes you want to lock the door from inside and only leave when food & toilet paper is needed.
Fantastic !!!
Wow, great stuff. Love it
So many good drummers. This guy plays do tight. I like Tony Thompson for his sheer power.
All kinds of great drummers.
Kinda tracking him back from Zildjian Live:-) Really like his playing; he's like a great rhythm guitar player that knows how to keep it groovy and throw interesting things in here and there.
Really musical playing love it so much
Best studio drummer!
I tried my hats that low. Destroyed my left thumb a few times.
Love your groove young man
well done man.....true quality here...thank god that true quality still exists..... big ups :)
De lo mejor de Ash! Qué control qué bárbaro... el inicio esta de 😰😰😰
I love that there's no shortage of great drummers to check out
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got the go-go swing.
Love this so much...A drum cover to one of my favourite tunes!!!
Ash, actually played the drums to this Grace Jones song #SlaveToTheRhythm
@@amegojoseph6856 good to know 👍🏾
Actually..it was Andy Richards who played on the original...but Ash is on it on this...shuffle is on point 👌🏾
Michelle, I stand corrected, but yes, Ash is on par.
Michelle Myrie Michelle Myrie William "Ju Ju" House is also credited for the drums on Slave to the Rhythm.
Brilliant! One of my favourite songs...
ASH N. 1 !!!
This is impressive.
Aye, he's the shuffle king!!!
I worshiped this album Trevor Horn was a god in the 80s and 90s. I just couldn't get enough of the GoGo... Every adaptation of the song was amazing.
JESUS CHRIST Loves y'all
💜
GREAT !! 2021 LISTENING....
Even that accidental cymbal hit at the end was on time 😂 love him.
I don't think there was anything accidental in this video.
Amazing performance. Bravo !!!
Control room, can we have a slow-mo replay of the gimmicks in the anticlimax at 3:29?
Jeff who?!? This is real groove without useless ghost notes! ONLY GROOVE! Long live Ash!!! Thanks a lot!
My absolute fav groove of all time....
And Trev one of my most fav producers....
But just noticed all those toms ? Hmmm... Sounds very Simmons though. Probably just a production choice...... Wonder if he had played it in the session or just added in post.
Thanks to some web researches and a kind reply by Bruce Woolley I ve found the complete name of the original drummer, William "Ju Ju" House. media.fandom.com/wiki/Slave_to_the_Rhythm_(album) great drumming Ash
Just funny watching you playing. And that Grooooove. Awesome Mr. Soan
A highly uneconomical drum technique that has been surpassed by thousands on UA-cam
Superb groove playing on one of my all time favourite tracks. Ash really has the shuffle thing together. A pleasure to listen to.
Excellent... One of my all time favorite songs...
Nice....can I add my flute to this in place of the syn? Let's jam!
ICONIC TRACK
TOP !
Love his vibe and laidback pocket!
tones of inspiration and a gift to all of us drummers!!! thank you ASH SOAN
sooo tight! love it!
That’s exactly how I’d like to be able to play
This guy isn’t in the pocket HE IS THE POCKET
That's pretty cool, thanks
in da pocket!!!
Hall Ronald White Donald Miller Sarah
Ash moves better than Grace Jones...
More pocket than this is impossible 😲
Kocham to wykonanie ♥️ mogę tego słuchać w nieskończoność 👍
Still a great track, very well played.
Beautiful! Mr.Shoan does justice to one of the great drum tracks in pop history. A lot of people here mention the late great Jeff Porcaro and one can understand why. The correlation is inevitable when we're talking about a half-time shuffle such as this. Just for history's shake though, let me point out that the drummer on the original recording is the incomparable William "Juju" House, a great drummer from the DC go-go band, EU. I urge you to check out go-go music (on which's vibe this drum beat is based on) as well as Juju. Peace!
The original track is a drum loop which makes this even more impressive
@@dustcurve The original track is NOT a drum loop! It IS a live drummer!
@@kapildrums correct! Ju Ju House
Ash Shoan, friend of Sean Connery?
Just tried to play along : that hi hat shuffle pattern, with accents on quarter notes, swing feel, at that speed is not easy. Also while maintaining a perfect hi hat sound. Most of us trying that on a pair of New Beats will probably make them sound harsh and too loud. Ash has such good shuffle feel, and excellent dynamic control.
….yes, Vic Firth, nice sticks too! :-)
This guy is a trustworthy workhorse. But does he got the swing?
REALLY DUDE?
BE the rhythm! Keep it up, keep it up... 🤘😎🥁 so groovy cool! I just love it!!!😍😍😍😍😍
The groove is a two-bar sample loop of go-go drummers from DC. Playing accurately with a human loop
Is tough. Good job!
Fun to see this. Fantastic production on the original release ( Trevor Horn)-- Use to play along to this when it came out on vinyl he's obviously got it however I don't care for how choked the drums are. Yea it's studio stuff but them cans are grand in and of themselves. Let em bounce and sing a tad more… 🙂
What's in his pocket?
Fabulous groove.
Very Special Nice. .. Great Sound' s and Touch Filling on Mood Groovy. .. ☺😊😀/💙💙💙/👍👌👏
Amazing, just amazing! I assumed the drumming on the album was multi recorded, but you showed it can be done live, wow!
this is really neat.
Wow - new favourite drummer! So far into the pocket he's right down the trouser leg and into the sock.
great feel!
Man/machine. Few finer.
This is great but it’s not the pattern played on the original track which is even more difficult to play!!
a bit stiff lol
have some video of your recording equipment? blessings
MR. SHUFFLE 👍🔝
Classic Ash grooves, made famous with 'Slave to the Rhythm'
Great job!
Shuffle!!!!
Master
Tight !! The shuffle and the kick are so solid. A joy to the ears
It’s an awesome drum part, just so smooth….a DC go go beat.
Sounds like she could sing many keys above that and just chill
GROOVE AND EASY GROOVE... FOR HIM ! ! THANKS
This is considered a shuffle, no? What is a shuffle exactly, musically speaking?
A shuffle is often recognized by the rhythm played on the hi hat! The hi hat plays the downbeat (1,2,3,4) and also the "a" before each downbeat (1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a), with a swung feel. Ash is playing a halftime shuffle in this video, but I believe the shuffle originated as a double time groove played in blues music. Hope this helps!
God he sits high. Groove is undeniable!
Beautiful pocket Ash! I love it! Groove on.........
Wow, beautiful kit. Fun to watch!
, ......... so simple , ..... so great !
Great groove, playing for the song. Enjoyed it immensely.
yep. brilliant. not many can do that.
Boah, is der gut
swing iz king no doubt
Go go
So smooth, great cover!
Good! In the Groove!
Who was the original drummer for this song?? Have been listening to it since I was in nappies. Groove is deep as fuck!!
AllMusic says either Andy Richards (keyboardist, so I'd say it's programming) or William "Ju Ju" House.
Thomas Programed?? Hell no. That's a real drummer.
It is Wm "Ju Ju " House from the Washington D.C. Go-Go group, E. U....
@@krush626 AMEN!!
tHANK YOU
Fantastic work
Ash is a class act. Super taste and restraint.
What a heavenly Groove master
Is this play along avaible?
There was a strong rumour that David Gilmour played the guitar parts on this track.
Steve Lipson
Great what a groooooove!
ugh the white balance
