  • October is menopause awareness month, which is a wonderful nod to the increase in attention paid to this important time in life which affects half the population for almost half of our lives. This year has seen a massive increase in discussion about perimenopause and menopause, but one of the least aware groups are our medical providers.
This week I'm sharing two important papers that you can read yourself and take to your providers to help to educate them if they are still giving you dismissive information about options regarding menopausal support.
    Important Papers:
"A Contemporary View of Menopausal Hormone Therapy"
    drive.google.c...
    ""Menopause and MHT in 2024"
    drive.google.c...
I'll also discuss how to find a menopause provider and introduce some new service lines that my practice is offering to reach a larger group of people in a more intimate way.
    Other Important Websites:
    The Menopause Society
    menopause.org/
The Pause Live by Mary Claire Haver
    thepauselife.com/
    Alloy

I started HRT 7 months ago, just before turning 65, and it has turned my health around. I was already working hard on trying to improve my overall health to combat osteoporosis (I doubled my protein intake, started an osteoporosis focused fitness program , tracking my nutrient intake with Cronometer, and filling in the gaps with supplements). I’m feeling absolutely fantastic, full of physical and mental energy. My sleep is deep and refreshing. Because of the WHI (Women’s Health Initiative) study, I declined starting HRT in 2002 despite having just been diagnosed with osteopenia. Women have silently suffered for too long (never mind our husbands), but I am so thankful for HRT experts like Dr. Susan for helping educate women and fellow professionals going forward. ❤

I’m so happy that you’re getting help and it’s working for you. I just had the conversation two days ago with my OB/GYN about BHRT and she told me no I would not be a good candidate because I’m a post menopause of 8 yrs and the risks out weigh the benefits, I’m. 63 yrs old my last period was in 2016 I was 56 yrs old. I was so disappointed, I wanted HRT for the benefits of it , the heart , the bones , do I keep looking for another provider or just roll up and die so disappointed so discouraged. I need advice and help.

@@rosalia6119Hi. I’m in the same boat. Same age and I asked my doctor last year and this year and she said no both times. I think she just didn’t want to be bothered.

I went to the menopause Society website plugged in a physician whose expert in the field and my own doctor did come up who I love and respect but she told me I would not be a good candidate because I’m eight years menopausal and I’m 63 years old keep in mind I have no history of breast cancer, blood clots or uterus cancer I have none of that, and she still told me no, the risks outweigh the benefits. I was devastated to say the least, but she will put me onto testosterone for low libido .

Find a compounding pharmacy near you and ask for a referral to a doctor, or two, who are prescribing HRT.

I've been binge watching several of your videos lately! Thank you for all the good info! I have a question on protein (although this probably should be posted on one of those videos). Eating 30 grams of protein 4 times a day is DAUNTING. I'm trying soooo hard, but I'm getting nauseous eating so much, even doing this 3 times a day is VERY difficult...I'm feeling tired and overly full but understand the importance. Is it necessary to do the 30 grams 4 times a day or will 3 times be okay? Thinking of 4 times just seems so impossible for me. I should add, I'm doing this mostly to keep my insulin in check and prevent additional weight gain. Thanks!

My Dr. wants to do a hysterectomy because i keep bleeding on HRT. But he keeps reducing my estradiol and never offered to up my progestin. I don't want a hysterectomy.

Upping my progesterone (from 200mg to 300 mg of micronized progesterone i.e. 2 pills: z00 + 100 mg pill) was indeed the easy and instant solution to excessive bleeding. After only a few months (4 or 5?) I could return to the normal dose. There were no negative side-effects 💪🙏👍 Best wishes to you from Germany 🇩🇪

What do you recommend for longevity from a uterine cancer patient? I watch my diet, exercise and feel great. So sad to know I don’t have any options at 57.

Doctors are so arrogant and you think they will take an article from a patient LOL
If you go to a doc and feel dismissed, simply go to a new doc or find an online doc. Trying to educate a doc is a complete and utter waste of time. ❤

Not all of them ! Don't give up. I've actually been really grateful when patients have given me information before on topics that I'm not familiar with.

Hi Dr. I would love to connect with you. I am a certified Integrative Coach supporting women on their hormonal journey and am wondering if I would qualify for your upcoming education program. I would also like to discuss referring my clients to you for more in depth consultation and recommendations. I am developing my network and am being very intentional about referrals. Who would I contact at your practice? I truly love what you do and you have changed my life and impacted the direction of my coaching practice significantly. I am in California and understand you can't prescribe to my clients who are here however, I have that all dialed in;)
