  • After many years of hating our old chain link fence we decide to build a fence ourselves. Follow us on our journey on the process of removal, and construction of almost 300 feet of Cedar Privacy board-on-board 6ft tall fence with a kickboard, or rot board and a simple top trim to finish off the fence. All done by us the homeowners. (My Wife & I) First time ever building a fence of any kind!

    Just wanted to say your video helped me ALOT with me building a fence. I had no idea how to even start with the metal post or even to attach it to wood. My fence was just one side and didn't turn out they way yours did but you did a great job and you inspired me to finally build mine :) thank you so much

    In my area, the post side of the fence must face toward the homeowner. So the finished side faces the outside world, so your neighbors get the nice view.

    Fence looks really good, you should look up ez brace for your back gate it will match the hardware on your gate. The ez brace will actually keep your gate from sagging over time just as the welded frame gate does.

    You and your Wife did a fantastic job. We also try to do everything that we can possibly do ourselves at home too. I absolutely despise rip off, over priced companies that take advantage of good folks. The average homeowners would be amazed at what they can accomplish nowadays with all of the information that is available. It ain't no secret anymore, well done my friend! ;-)

    • @bmarsh011
      @bmarsh011  9 років тому

      Kenny Starr Thanks! It is amazing how much one can save by doing Anything yourself.

    • @mrgroovestring
      @mrgroovestring 9 років тому

      Yes it is. We just got ripped off by 2 different "pro's" one was a painter, the other was a cabinet maker. I hired the painter because of my back and neck issues, I hired the cabinet maker because I didn't have a miter saw. Guess what? ...... I WILL buy myself a miter saw, and WE WILL do our own painting from now on. They screwed us out of almost NINE grand. They'll Never rip us off again, as long as I can walk. I am a FIRM supporter of DO IT YOURSELF. Even if your body hurts, DIY if at all possible. Good job kids!

    Looks nice! A little over a year ago be bought a house in the country w/ just over 1/2 acre. Been fixing up along the way but really want a privacy fence along the back and 1/2 way along the sides.(basically enclose the back yard) Our lot is 170'w 130'd but unfortunately $5k in materials alone is not in the budget right now. Going to have to stick with a post and board fence (like a corral fence) across the front for now to "pretty it up" but that's still almost $1k. It sucks being poor!!! :(
    But I wanted to say I enjoyed your video and watching the process.It's very inspiring.

    Very nice fence. I also built a dog ear style myself using treated 4 x 4's with 3 runners of 2 x 4's with cedar pickets, I have not stained it yet but will before this winter what stains are you thinking about? From my research some kind of oil based semi transparent is what people are telling me but i'm not sure.

    How do you keep the fence clear of bushes and such on the opposite side? And it looks like you had fence against a neighbor's fence. what keeps trees from growing up in between them? My neighbors would never keep the fence trimmed on their side, and would never allow me to come over and clean up their side neither.

  • @warriorsinternational1826
    @warriorsinternational1826 4 роки тому

    Look great but Fence is built inside out. Most codes require the nicer side to face out. Hopefully this is allowed in your area.
