Hi guys! This is an updated video tutorial for the Simply Daisy Bookmark. It goes a bit slower and provides more detail than the previous video. I hope that it helps clear up any confusion from the last video, but please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you enjoy making and using your bookmarks!🥰 If you prefer a written pattern, here is a link to the free pattern on my blog: thispixiecreates.com/how-to-crochet-the-simply-daisy-bookmark-video-tutorial/
I really love this! I thought the previous tutorial for this was great also. I will be making this for coworkers as part of their Christmas gifts. Thank you so much, you are a great instructor and easy to follow!!❤
This is the third thing I’ve made since beginning to crochet. It was very easy to follow along and I finished it in about an hour. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!
Almost gave up learning but this video saved me!! Made my first item ever! I don’t think I used the same type of yarn but I’m proud of the results!! Thank you so much for this!
Thank you thank you thank you! I have to admit your first video got me frustrated because I couldn’t follow along. It was too fast so when i saw this updated/revised video, I was super duper excited. I made my first bookmark thanks to your amazing video!
After on and off crocheting for a few years. This year I finally ended up making my first project today this book. I made two mistakes everything else is fine though. Thank you so much. Cheers to many more projects to come.
I am only 5 minutes in and this is so so helpful. Your first video was great, but the added explanation and slower pace of this one is much appreciated. Thank you so much. I love the bookmark you came up with. ❤
I thought you couldn’t get any clearer than in the original video, but it turns out: you can! You have such a sweet voice and your way of explaining is so patient and thoughtful. I love the pattern and am going to use it for bag straps. Thank you for all the work (also in the pattern and your blog) you put into this, you have helped me a lot, I really appreciate it!
Aww thank you so much for your sweet comment! You made my day. I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial - I was hoping it would be a bit clearer this time around. 🥰
It certainly is, but already was the first time! I finished my bag, and these bag straps really are the icing on the cake 😊 Hope you really enjoy what you do, you really made me happy with my work too!
Thank you for this! I tried your other video and this one was so much simpler and easier to follow! I appreciate you doing it a little slower and more explicit. It made such a cute bookmark!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I just completed my first bookmark following your lead. I really appreciate the detail you've provided and the pace was perfect. I watched your first tutorial (awesome, too) but with this one, I could understand the stitches that make the pattern so pretty. It's so generous and thoughtful of you to do this tutorial twice. Thank you! :)
Merry Christmas I was so happy to find this pattern and so excited to make it as my son got a new Bible for Christmas and need bookmark. So thank you so much. I appreciate you going slowly so that we understand it. I will be looking for more of your videos , have a blessed day
Thank you for the great tutorial. It's actually the first fine detailed crochet project I attempted that looks like the pattern! 🤩 Making it for my mom 🧡
tip: on row 2, if you make your sc really tight, it won't curve on one side NEAR as much! Also: I really like your method of weaving in the ends bc it makes it really secure with the knot! thx!
That is a great tip - I'm going to try that! Thank you.😊 And you're welcome, I'm glad you like it. I never fully trust my "weaving" skills, so I have to add a knot just in case.
Hi Dayna. I loved this pattern and found the videos very easy to follow and make the bookmarks. I am making these for my nieces who love to read 😄 Thank you ❤
I love the way you take your time in showing the stitches, and your explanations and videos are so clear. You are great. I followed your tutorial and created a lovely bookmark. Thanks so much. 😊
first day am seeing U you did a wonderful job explaining t his tutorial well done must make one thanks 4 shearing. from Trinidad and Tobago West Indies
Can we use the end we were going to weave into the bookmark to attach the tassel if we have a long enough tail? Thank you for this tutorial everyone is getting one for Christmas!
I don't see why not! I haven't tried it, but it would save you from weaving in an extra end, which would be nice. And you're welcome. I really hope you enjoy making your bookmarks. ☺
I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I don't know if this will help with the tassel, but I have a tutorial for adding a tassel in a different bookmark video at the 8:16 time mark. It goes a little slower, so I hope it helps: ua-cam.com/video/AzMMsulZLQQ/v-deo.html ☺ If you prefer written instructions and pictures though, there is a tutorial at the bottom of this post for adding a tassel: thispixiecreates.com/how-to-crochet-the-simply-daisy-bookmark-video-tutorial/
I don't have one, but there is a great video tutorial by MJs Off the Hook Designs for the star stitch afghan: ua-cam.com/video/-IG4pEuTRi0/v-deo.html. I hope this helps! ☺
hiii do you have to weave in the ends? i dont have a yarn needle or is there a way to secure it without one?? great tutorial btw!!! i just started crocheting and this one was so fun to make :D
Great question! Normally, I would say, yes, please weave in your ends, because they do tend to unravel if you don't. But I know it sucks having to go out an get something that you weren't planning on needing to finish a project. So here is what you can do (I hope it works and stays intact): make a knot at the end of both of your ends to secure them. You can try your best to weave each tail under a loop of a stitch to hold it in place, and then cut it. This is optional though, so you can just cut your tails after you make each knot. I hope this helps! ☺
It's best to have a tapestry needle (a blunt needle with a wider eye than a normal sewing needle) to weave in the ends, but I have seen people hide the end by using a smaller crochet hook to pull the end strands through the loops of the stitches to hide them instead of using a tapestry needle (basically the same as a yarn needle and used in cross stitch and even-weave embroidery as well). I hope that this helps!
I'm fairly new here. I had the correct number of stitches to complete round 7, but then had an extra stitch at the end of round 8. I've done it 3 times and it is always the same. What in the world am I doing?
Hi Luna, I'm sorry it's not working out for you. But I'm a little confused by the Rnd 7 and 8. This bookmark only has a Row 1 and a Row 2. Is this the pattern that you're having trouble with?
I found it really hard to have it straight. My end product is curved. Any suggestion on how I could improve that? If it's related to the uneven tightness at the beginning - chain row?
I used a F hook with Patons Grace cotton yarn and did the 33 chains; the bookmark finished is 5.5” long. I want to make it about 7-8” before adding the tassel. I know you said that to change the length do a multiple of 2+5 but I don’t know what that means; can you explain please? Thank you! It’s really pretty!
Great question! The chain a multiple of 2 + 5 means that you'll keep chaining (2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2...+ 2) until you're happy with the length, and then add an extra 5 chains at the end. You can also look at it like, chain any even number until you're happy with the length, then chain an extra 5 chains at the end. You can try chaining 45, and that might get you close to the length that you'd like. 😊
Dear This Pixie Creates. I have been practicing this bookmark with some old wool to learn the pattern, I have managed to learn It and the tassel. But I need to get the right yarn so It looks professional like yours. Could you send me the exact yarn you used and colour and were I can buy It from. I have learnt well from you, thank you. It will be much appreciated, I would like to give them as gifts to family and friends 😊 Valerie.
Hi Valerie, thanks for asking! For my bookmarks I used a couple of different cotton yarns. The bookmarks shown in the thumbnail picture are made using Dishie yarn - you can find it on crochet.com here: www.crochet.com/yarn/dishie/c/50015020?. For the tutorial section of the video, I used Mainstay Cotton yarn from Walmart in the colour Daylily Pink here: www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-100-Cotton-Yarn-Blue-Shell-3-5oz-180yds-4-Medium-Weight/948631596?. I hope your friends and family love their bookmarks! 😊
The board I'm using is just a Styrofoam board that you can find at Home Depot/Lowes. You can use a crochet/knitting block mat, or just a piece of cardboard - whatever you have on hand that you can stick pins into. ☺
Hi Faith, if you're looking for a star stitch blanket pattern, you can find one here from MJs off the Hook Designs (she has a video tutorial and a free written pattern on her blog): ua-cam.com/video/-IG4pEuTRi0/v-deo.html. Good luck making your baby blanket! 🥰
I’m an absolute beginner, tried doing this .. but I couldn’t make it.. Edit : but I tried it after 2 weeks again after doing some other crochet projects, and I finally made it🎉🎉🎉🥳
Great question! It means chain a multiple of 2 until you're happy, then add an extra 5 chains to the end. So for example, Ch 32 (multiple of 2) then add 5 to get a chain of 37. I hope this helps!
Does it even say what size hook to use? Been sitting here replaying the beginning 6 times and still can’t find anything that discusses what size hook to start with.
My guess is that you may be working across 3 new chains instead of 2. When you make your stitch, always work into the ch-1 sp of the previous stitch, the leg of the previous stitch, the last ch of the previous stitch, and two new chains. I hope this helps! 😊
