I can't imagine learning Prince and The Time songs at high school, I hope your students know how lucky they are to be in a funk band and get school credit at the same time.
I have to say this is cool to teach this..but why are you teaching them 2 fingered chords when they are triads? I'm a keyboard player, played for Prince for 7 years (Google Me😁)I'm also a college proffesor. So why the inconpkete chords?
Oh I know exactly who you are :-) and I know exactly why you’d ask this question. My response is simple: Unfortunately, at the time I was teaching there two days a week with kids who had little experience, equipment outside of school to practice on with the looming deadline of “the performance” mixed in with my limitations as a “keyboard player” (using that term incredibly loosely)

Man, I wish my high school offered funk classes.
So all that time I was thinking they were Chords and they were just Intervals. THANKS
Hey what are the notes for the bass part of this song?
