when i first heard the song i couldn't tell how i felt about how they decided to end it. expecting the song to pick up but it just suddenly goes quiet... at first it was very unsatisfying... but then i realized the reason why they did that and damn, that hurts. we all dream for life to turn into something more, but our expectations are never met.. everyday goes by the same and we very rarely are able to feel satisfied with the life we live

@@odetojoy2012 yes and i love that! life may not have a true purpose, but we live it because we want to and there's nothing wrong with that. laughing at memes all day or listening to music 24/7 may seem useless and like your life is going nowhere, but what matters is that you're having fun. at the end of the day, the one true purpose of everyone's life is to just enjoy it

I was also expecting a drop. For me, it hit harder the way they did it because if they did a final drop I would expect for the lyrics to have some sort of resolution (maybe motivational words of how to feel less like zombie) but no, it hits hard because in reality it doesn't feel like a resolution will happen and everything will feel the same everyday.
Sorry, no idea if this made sense.

    • @annamariejones2837

    • @LeeStyles

I feel like that's the point of the song, to make you feel but doesn't exactly need a resolution right away, it's a process. If you want a resolution, listen to Better Better. I love how some MyDays pointed out that it's the answer to Zombie.

Honestly the one very good thing I think that shows through their hiatus, is that the stigma around mental illness in the kpop community is slowly crumbling. Artists are coming out to their fans and telling them their struggles, and they’re being forward and honest with their companies and they’re being given mental hiatuses much more prevalently than past years. Which is a good thing, considering the mental health issue in Kpop has been just as present in the past years, but now it’s being addressed and idols are recovering. Companies are also not pushing idols as hard and not overworking they as much because of how many have come out and told them “I’m not okay, and I need a break.”

    • @nguyetminhhuynh2128
      @nguyetminhhuynh2128 4 роки тому +13

Actually JYP has always cares for their idols' mental health. Even tho the company is not good with promoting but they sure care a lot, they always make a proper announcement when it comes to the health (physical and mental) of their idols and employees, which is pretty rare in the Kpop industry. Fortunately, more and more companies are picking up this pattern.

I usually never listen to sad songs because they make me like .. wallow? in my sadness? however despite my avoidance to depressing-type music I agree that I also “needed” this song to just validate my feelings of anxiety towards this whole situation. as much as i want to say it hasn’t been affecting me significantly, it just has. there’s no way around it. i think everyone in some way is going through something right now. it does make me feel better that one of my favorite artists has put these feelings everyone can relate to into a song and it just cuts SO deep. kinda just makes my heart feel a little less empty to have this type of support from day6. we’re in this together ❤️

But when I listen to some songs (songs that are relatable or makes me wanna cry) like Zombie, I don't feel so alone.(That's how I mostly cope) It's like someone actually understands me and is there for me, then I'll end up crying. This is one of the best review of Day6 zombie. When I watched this mv, I noticed that how simple this mv is. Very simple but have a deep meaning here. I watched one of korean youtuber said that during the scene when the actor walk very slowly while the rest is so fast,it shows how cruel the city is. You can see no one talk to him in the office and people around him dont want to know what he is doing too. And the water, people said water can calm us too. Such a simple story but have a deep meaning . And this song is only 3.04 minute and it is one of the shortest songs Day6 have.I think why they make it short maybe they want to leave the listeners in a hallow or dark emotions here. I also have same thought like you, maybe in the last scene where young k and jae sing, maybe they gonna have a drum or another sound but no, they just leave it there and end it. That is how our life is,our life is short.

Can’t wait for you to post a video about the whole album because apparently, ‘Love me or leave me’ is really out there sounding like it has ridiculous choreography to it, ‘Day and Night’ being a whole bop, and us getting emotionally attacked by ‘Afraid’. I don’t know how, but this whole album is insane. If you don’t tell me that ‘Zombie’ is the title track, I wouldn’t even know which one is because every song is battling its way into the top. This is because DAY6 has insane consistency on the effort they put into each song. It’s ridiculously amazing how they just couldn’t make a single bad song considering the number of songs they’ve already produced.

To me this whole song felt like a story. Of course, most songs are like stories but the way this song progressed really felt like how a book starts and ends. Very calm beginning, rising action in between, climaxing in the middle, and going back down to “calm” when you’d expect more. The song progression felt like a hill and i really enjoyed it. Now adding my thoughts of the music itself to the lyrics, its so well fitting yet heart breaking. The beginning explaining how they felt like a “zombie” with their life going in a never ending cycle with nothing new and nothing to run off on, to the “climax” where their emotions really come out, explaining now much it hurts them, wondering how their life got to the point that it doesn’t feel meaningful , how they got to the point of crying till they really cant cry, no matter how badly they want to. The song ended in a saddening emptiness, the same lyrics of how they feel like a “zombie”, the fact that it is hard to be content with life settling in and that what they are feeling is still prominently there. that is just what i got from it but everyone can interpret things differently :) j think that that is how i took this song because its very much how im feeling with my life right now but im sure ill break that cycle soon 😔🤘

I expected a drop at the end as well, some sort of guitar solo or anything, a bit like the drop after the first chorus. But they way they did it with only the piano and Jae's voice, it fit so well. It beautifully expressed the feeling of emptiness they sang about in the lyrics. The feeling of constantly doing the same things without really reaching anything.
This whole song hit hard for me, because I've been feeling, well, like a zombie for about half a year now, even before this whole quarantine happened. I felt like my life was going by, but I wasn't moving forward. I was just sitting there, breathing and watching my life go on. I felt like I was doing the same thing week after week, without a break, without anything new. This song perfectly hit home....
Edit: also I feel like the lack of changing sets adds to the feeling of being stuck in one place, because they literally are. It doesn't get being because of the different angles and playing around with the focus of the camera, and at the end of the mv by adding water...

This was really cool, I learned a lot. I don’t watch horror movies, so hearing the explanation behind the techniques and what they are associated with and that was how the group reinforced certain feelings was very interesting.

Hi PD! The english version is also amazing. It isn’t a direct translation; instead, they wrote new lyrics that captured the essence of the song. Please check it out as well!

This was a really informative video on editing techniques. As an outsider I thought they were fun things to learn about. And I agree, this was definitely a much needed song. It also seems to be the perfect song for them to announce their break, telling the world that's how they've been feeling.

At first, I was like this is new (for the songs I listen to), but then boom right into 1st place in my heart. It's so great, plus you can really feel their emotions and it's so relatable, not the 'oOhH rElAtaBle Quirky' but we all have felt or feel like zombies in life. We do the same things every day and not living up to others' expectations of us.

PD, i don't know if i'm too late, but i think they shot the scenes you talk about in 12:00 with a split diopter. it's not used very often nowadays (it is used in films like Jaws, All the President's Men, some Quentin Tarantino's films, and it was recently used in Toy Story 4!), but you can keep in focus two parts of the frame at a time, and you actually get some other parts blurry as well. they used really cool and not often seen techniques, so i wouldn't be surprised they did that!

this song is so meaningful to me. You said it perfectly knowing I’m not alone and there are others feeling this way makes me feel safe in a way. I’m glad JYP let’s his artists express themselves using what they love as a platform to speak up about subjects the music industry doesn’t really talk about. Day6 have once again proved they are true rockstars.

i love this song so muchh, i can't stop listening to it!! and the mv was perfect for it.
for me the use of that only set really adds to the lyrics of every day feeling the same, plus the camerawork and all the different angles made it very unique and kept it from becoming boring, in fact it may be one of my favorite day6 mvs.
anyways i think the whole album is amazing

I also expected the final chorus as the outro cuz the bridge seemed to be leading there. But I think the ending was GENIUS on their part cuz it made me want to listen more and I just can't seem to have enough of the song so I re-listen to it over and over again. Idk if it's just me but I've been continuously listening to the song since it came out. The whole album is also so SOLID.

I love this song so much. It is so emotional and I have needed a new emotional song to listen to.. I actually needed this today because I felt a little empty. But yeah at the end, when they don’t do the drop and just let it stay emotional, I feel the tears in the back of my eyes. This song is just so powerful. I loved your reaction btw. The hollow ending kind of reminds me of N.Flying's "Rooftop". Both of the song caught me totally off guard. It's so unexpected bc you think there's going to be a big instrumental powerful outro. But this way, when it's only the vocals it's so much more emotional and carries the whole meaning throughout the song.

    i think Zombie was amazing.
honestly they couldnt time it better, right?
I'm really looking forward to your analysis of the album! honestly i think youre going to love it. there were past albums that explored Day6 more creative side, while this one is a little more focused on a single thematic-ish? but it doesnt make it less interesting, if anything, its more powerful.
i got MAD I Need Somebody vibes from the way Afraid is built, and its equally if not more saddening.
Tick Tock's tempo changes are amazing, and it makes it a favorite for me, but i also went with everybody and LOVED Love Me Or Leave Me.
STOP feels like it belongs in entropy and they actually made the song for that album, and 1 to 10 have 80ish vibes as well which i love.
Last but not least, the first song, Day and Night is day6's trademark, sad lyrics in a happy song.
One last thing: Props to Young K's range in this album. I didnt know this was possible but theyre actually improving vocally.
Honestly, the motto still stands: trust and listen to day6. not a single skip song in the album.

I love how versatile they are, like they can do ballads, they can do rock (I still cry remembering Rescue me) and they can do pieces of art like Zombie. At this point what can't Day6 do?
I love the creativity of the music video, both lyrics and video is so relatable and it's very different to any other music video I've seen in Korean music, I could definitely get inspired by the song. Overall 1000/10 would listen again.

we already knew that day6 have many, like PLENTY relatable songs, but zombie is really hits different. when i first read the title, i thought it would be a fast like upbeat and hard song, but it was not. it turned out that zombie has a kind of dark meaning, it symbolize the numb feeling that we had because of the sick routinity. this is a really comforting song to hear when you're tired and depressed but you have to keep going on your life with an "auto settings" like a zombie. ALSO this song has an english version to it, and the english one is REALLY HITS DIFFERENT. even though the melody is still the same, the lyrics is not an exact translation from korean. it's like a whole new song. the korean ver. lyrics is kind of more sound comforting, meanwhile the english ver. lyrics is darker and more depressing.
so yeah, zombie is really the song i needed when the world is being cruel.
in conclusion : you all better listen to day6's songs and start stanning them. if you ask me "what song should i listen?" WHATEVER, JUST CHOOSE ONE, THEY LITERALLY HAD NO BAD SONGS, TRUST ME.

Every time I feel like I am in a new phase in my life Day6 is there to catch me and hold me till I can stand again. With care, hope, understanding, and a feeling of never being alone.
