Woah I thought LKPN with rotors scattered around the field from the ridge when it's blowing northwest and a small rotor on landing that can slam you right into a hangar when it's blowing north is sketchy. A nice bonus is the sloped runway and the trees around most of the field.
The field is in the bottom of a narrow valley surronded with cables, airplanes will land in what looks like a cow field and the parking is also the back parking of a factory Yes that sound perfect to be an airpot ! 😅
Just saw this comment and I'm replying a mere 3 years later. You can see the PC-12, the Quest and the C210, the Siai Marchetti is missing as well as the new H125. I personally installed the GTN 650 and the 750 on the PC-12 between October and November 2016 and I've been to the airfield quite a few times!
So what would one need to do to be allowed to land there? I am just interested because this approach looks like a real challenge even to very competent pilots.
All those cables, those close calls with ridges, and the trees at the end of the runway. This runway must have claimed at least a few planes by now. Even if I had a thousand hours as pic I would not want to land here I couldn't see cables 3 until about 3 seconds away, and those trees come on. Who designed this?
Ryan M. The strip belongs to the owner of the factory at the bottom of the valley. Strictly PPR! Very few pilots have landed there and as far, no accidents. Often there is a tailwind that funnels through the bottom entry and accelerated to 20 knots, and bleeding off the altitude is hard. The ground rush towards the steep hill focuses the mind!
@@darrenfern : Fritz Jörn (who lives in the area apparently) commented above that cables 3 are gone now... Do you confirm? Just interested as this scenery has been modeled for Flight Simulator 2020 (see this video of a simulated approach: ua-cam.com/video/qZrk4VYBVUM/v-deo.html) so it would be nice to know for sure in order to make the scenery as accurate as possible :-)
Of course it could be paved. But as long as it is not needed who will be paying for it? This is their step towards a CO2-neutral airfield... almost kind of...
I think it's because a grass runway allows for harder landings, since grassy ground can absorb some impact, while on concrete you just smash the gears. Given the nature of the airflield (short, inclined, extremely dangerous approach) you really wanna put the plane down fast and hard.
Sad that humanity puts cables all over the place. Surely they could cross in the same place or even better, why not put them underground or on low suspension bridges?
It's the same thing like with Hong Kong Kai Tak: Everybody is aware how dangerous it is, therefore not much incidents happen. A feeling of being safe is not necessarily safe. Feeling a little bit unsafe and scared can help to be careful and aware of the danger.
Holy cow, what an approach :D I don't know whats worse the approach or the taxi...
Great!

What a beautiful area! Someone should build an airport there some day.
That was mean - but really funny!
@@f.d.6667 It was either that or:
What a beautiful area! I'll have to take a train and visit it one day.
Hope to fly approaches like this some day, and start right seat PC-12 this coming summer!

Amazing flying wow. Scenery is so beautiful
Like flying inside a spiders web - all that cable stretched everywhere is quite the hazard
Why do I get the impression that will feature in a Bond movie?
I think I'll take the bus.
Me too
I think I'll take a pee.
I’ll make this my first solo flight
Sketch with those cables!
dangerous and practically insane to land here

Never seen that many aircraft at locher airfield before

Thank you very much for this approach on the Locher airfield in mountainous italy and nice approach in turbopropulsuers
thank you super !!!
Killer cables, amazing :)))
What's that called? A "Cable Approach System" landing
signman Bob It’s fly by wire!
Going to attempt to land there in Microsoft flight simulator
Wie sieht's eigentlich mit einem Ausflug zum Locher Airfield aus? Bei wem bekomm ich die PPR für 1x Landung und 1x Start?
I wonder how often did the killer cables do their deadly work?
Seems to be extremely difficult to land on
Hats off Darren. Good fun at night?
That's awesome! I'd love to fly in here 😁
What a great crazy landing..Nice...
So what would one need to do to be allowed to land there? I am just interested because this approach looks like a real challenge even to very competent pilots.
Pilatus factory pilots refuse to land at this airport. There are no good options if engine fails. Piston engine use is strictly for the suicidal.
@@birdwing98 it’s good that modern pilatus engines aren’t pistons then!
beautiful approach.
I wanna see him do the ILS approach.
I would like to land here at night ;).... I wonder if Locher has ever attempted this. A true pilot has inspired me
ua-cam.com/video/I18EWPVvjM4/v-deo.html @8:30 it's a twilight approach back to Locher. You should try it IFR with 200' minimums for a real thrill.
Jeez, even the taxiway is scary!
Beautiful rwy!!!
Any reason why those Cable are not Marked better than they are? I've got to know more about this place!
One of the few airports you use more fuel on the taxi UP to the takeoff position than the actual takeoff...
really a great pilot
Have the cables killed anyone? Just wondering why you call them killer cables xD
Who/waat is Locher Sarentino
Is this factory the reason of that airfield?
le bailli des savoies no it’s at the guys house!
I would guess so...
must be fun in low cloud !
How did you filmed this video?
Looks like the camera was outside the cabin and looks likes it was not really fixed at the wing
Burkhard Bickmann go pro mounted on an nFlight mount on wingtip...
Camera-person sitting on wing.
Very good 👍🏽
Of course there would never be any wind to bother from either direction either. YEAH RIGHT. Great pilot to land there.
Dam those cables are way to fucking close for my comfort zone!
ciao, domenica prossima passo di lì per un avvicinamento con un C172, posso?
I just landed here in Xplane 11!😆 very nice weTher real or a flight simulator scenery!☺
Awesome
Beautiful! Does Locher have an ICAO Code?
Only a matter of time before a sudden wind or fog.
great job
Nice collection
Pazzesco! qualcuno però mi spiega qual è l'utilità di questa aviosuperficie?
Playground for the 'high society' maybe?
Seems to be a treacherous aproach, only for a well skilled & familiar pilot.
The taxi is scarier than the approach
Very interesting
Man & machine are one.
Locher airfield is private? Or is s club?
Mario S it’s a private strip available by invitation only. Thanks
Darren Fern ...OHHHH! So nice place! And I think the wind is strong when sun is shining up
I like to come
I am so scarred of the cables. It is that close.
How much are this guys Salary?
