My RV8 Build
After selling my Husky, I spent two years building an RV8, and now it's ready for my next adventures. It has been a life-affirming process, and I can't stop grinning now that I've flown it for the first time!

Moldoi mountain strip with 2 Huskies - scary landing!
Переглядів 2,1 тис.7 років тому
Moldoi airstrip in the Italian Alps, not far from the Locher strip. Grass was a bit longer than expected! Fortunately, Tom did the 'first cut'. Its amazing what the Husky will tolerate if the tailwheel is nailed down to the floor!

A great little strip, North/south aligned, on the west side of Roadford Lake, Devon. Runway dips down to mid point then slopes upwards quite a bit.
Husky approach and landing Cargreen Airstrip Plymouth UK

Cargreen, just west of Plymouth, UK. Very hospitable owners, and a well maintained strip. Power lines immediately to the east, and upslope for first 100 yards towards southwest. Approx 350 yards long, 24/06, SafetyCom 135.475

Perranwood landing in a Husky-190 yard strip!
Переглядів 1,8 тис.8 років тому
Landing at Perranwood, Cornwall. 190 yards over a 4 foot fence at each end...and downhill to the east. Blustery wind curls over the trees if there is a hint of 'southerly' wind... 28 knots and blustery today! Husky 'Shock dawg' gear and Thomas Dietrich's SGS modification mean sticking it on the ground and not floating isn't too difficult...

How to do a Minimally Invasive PAO
I wonder how often did the killer cables do their deadly work?
Yikes !
What is the purpose of this strip? Looks attached to a local business?
It’s owned by the business adjacent to it. It’s open for use by invited guests. It’s also one of the airstrips used on the Italian Mountain Pilot courses. The owner operates a PC12 from there
@@darrenfern Very neat. Thanks for the info. It reminds me of a James Bond style base of operations. We have nothing like that here in Canada.
Seems to be a treacherous aproach, only for a well skilled & familiar pilot.
Awesome, thanks for sharing !!! Looking forward to visit the Scillies this year myself... and one day I will take the Husky...
There is another video where I fly over St Mary’s airfield that will be better for the Moody!
@@darrenfern Sorry could not find it on your channel. What is the name of it ?

Hello! Can I send you my hip x-ray to see if I have dysplasia? I always have hip pain and the doctors in my country are poorly educated, they don't know how to read an X-ray
This is truly out in the middle of back of beyond nowhere..
Very nice video Darren. Good to scope out a place before attempting to go there. It looks like it might be a bit rough for India Charlie or Sierra Foxtrot.
The field is in the bottom of a narrow valley surronded with cables, airplanes will land in what looks like a cow field and the parking is also the back parking of a factory Yes that sound perfect to be an airpot ! 😅
Excellent, well done..
Absolutely Fantastic.
Very good 👍🏽
Dam those cables are way to fucking close for my comfort zone!
There appear to be no mention of the wind, and no windsock either: knowing those alpine valleys, I would expect that in the afternoon in the good season it blows quite strongly uphill, resulting in a substantial tailwind with possible development of rotors close to terrain. On the other hand, there appears to be no choice of direction, considering the slope.
One way in, one way out. Katabatic or anabatic depending on time of day and temperatures… the steep upslope offsets the frequent tailwind. Access to the strip is very restricted!
@@darrenfern thanks, Darren. Being myself a glider pilot flying in the area, I was interested in knowing more about the field -- just in case...
Man & machine are one.
I am so scarred of the cables. It is that close.
Wie sieht's eigentlich mit einem Ausflug zum Locher Airfield aus? Bei wem bekomm ich die PPR für 1x Landung und 1x Start?
Lovely place to fly a Husky
Wow , cables 3, dangerous.
Jeez, shame they can’t coat those cables in fluorescent yellow or something.
Jeez, even the taxiway is scary!
Полет очень красивый, все наглядно, для полной атмосферности не хватает реальных звуков. Гитару люблю с детства, но в полете она лишняя :)
Thank you very much for this approach on the Locher airfield in mountainous italy and nice approach in turbopropulsuers thank you super !!!
Let the American army build an airstrip here....theyre the experts.
No. The RAF would be far better.
On my pilot bucketlist now. Amazing!
That's awesome! I'd love to fly in here 😁
Using this landing guide for MFS2020
wow that footage from inside is amazing
excellent
Pazzesco! qualcuno però mi spiega qual è l'utilità di questa aviosuperficie?
Playground for the 'high society' maybe?
Going to attempt to land there in Microsoft flight simulator
that airfield should be closed
Its rather fortunate that you have no say in anything in life other than weather or not to brush your teeth . . .
@@TRPGpilot youll hit the cable
That was an absolutely beautiful and terrifying trip. They aught to do something about those cables.
Not going to happen. It's a private airfield.
What a beautiful area! Someone should build an airport there some day.
That was mean - but really funny!
@@f.d.6667 It was either that or: What a beautiful area! I'll have to take a train and visit it one day.
Pilot: "Father forgive me, for I have sinned." Priest: "What are your sins my son?" Pilot: "I use this church as an approach fix every Sunday morning while flying my turbopr-" Priest: "get out"
The taxi is scarier than the approach
fly by wire be like
Woah I thought LKPN with rotors scattered around the field from the ridge when it's blowing northwest and a small rotor on landing that can slam you right into a hangar when it's blowing north is sketchy. A nice bonus is the sloped runway and the trees around most of the field.
I wanna see him do the ILS approach.
Very nice what is the aeroplane type please ?
Husky A1C-180
Very interesting
Q
Is a "Go around" possible from an aborted low approach?
Once you are down near 'Cables 3' its probably not possible in a Husky... the slope is too much... Tom and Gephard's 'Pocket Rocket' can take off up hill from there though, but its climb rate is probably 3500'/min!
One of the few airports you use more fuel on the taxi UP to the takeoff position than the actual takeoff...
You must get around!! Found the videos at Locher, and then this. Camera angle is so limited, cannot figure your location. I was born / raised in Sandpoint, live in Coeur d alene. Maintained GCA RADAR and TACAN in the Navy, NAS Miramar, ETR-2
Thanks for nice helpful video
Beautiful! Does Locher have an ICAO Code?
L'Italia il paese dei cavi dell'alta tensione!
Very nice, thanks. What is the clamp system you are using to fit the sun visor?
Rosen Sun Visor
Thanks
Seems to be a very small plane. I wonder where is seat the guitar player...????
