Wish you had a makeup artist at your beck and call? These makeup tutorials are the next best thing. In this video, makeup artist-to-the-stars Patricia Longo teaches you how to apply cake eyeliner perfectly.
Hi I'm Patricia Longo and I'm a celebrity makeup artist. I've worked with models from Sports Illustrated like Brooklyn Decker and Julie Henderson to Alec Baldwin at 30 Rock. All those things that experts do that the average person doesn't know how to do we'll learn how to do it on these videos. So for cake eyeliner I like using for Isabella cuz its very smooth and easy to use. I use an angular brush. I dip into water. I add it to the cake powder and I start right in the middle and I move outward. And if I wanna make the liner even darker I add more water and make sure that it really soaks up the color cuz if you don't do that it won't come out as dark. So I just soaked up a lot of the black and you can test it on your own hand. And when I use the angular and I wanna give it just a little lift I turn it the other way and just go back this way. Make it a little thicker on the end. And then I turn it back this way. And there's the cake liner. Comes out very smooth and very dark. I'm just going to do her other eye. Like I said make sure when you put the water not too much water cuz if you put too much water then it's going to come out really light. So you put water then you get it into the color. See how I'm blending and mixing. It's like watercolor paint. Mhm it's like watercolor paint exactly. That's the word I wanted to use. It's like watercolor paint, but as you can see I can make it darker or lighter depending on how much I sit there and get into the color. And don't worry if you mess up. If you make it too thick on one side you can always use Q-tips to fix it. These are my favorite Q-tips. One side is pointy and the other side is flat. Do you know why? Because this side is going to thin out the line and this side is just going to clean the mess up. I wet both sides. Take out the excess water. Make sure your fingers are clean and then what I do is I would just go right near the line, smudge it. Maybe clean up a little eye shadow here and there. Little over here on your face. Open your eyes. And there's your cake liner.

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm thinking of going back to cake eyeliners! I remember using Maybelline in the 70s. In the red box!

You know this is how its done, no muss, no fuss. Simple, easy and fast. Todays girls make it seem so hard "You need this product and this and this!" And a TON of it. Just..NO.

Julia L. I’m assuming she meant to say gel liner but maybe that is another way of saying it. Or maybe Indians call it cake liner IDK.

Cake liner is not the same as gel. Cake liners are gaining popularity again. They are often called "water activated liner". Suva Beauty has popular cake liners called "Hydra liners", many Indie brands have been releasing pastel cake liners, and ABH just came out with some too

@@MesmerizingEyesXOXO of course! I think they fell off in popularity for a while because they require the extra step if adding water to the brush. But they can be really nice. You can make them lighter or very pigmented based on the amount of water, much like water color paints. Im excited to see them gaining popularity again
