Holy cow, I had no idea about collapsing the writing keyboard and just writing anywhere on the screen. That's AMAZING. Thank you so much for pointing that out!
I have been watching your new and old videos on e-ink devices for weeks as I try to determine what to buy. First off, they are great! Second, what would you recommend for strictly Note Taking. I do not care about any other features as I am at my PC with Ultrawide Monitors a majority of the time which is just more efficient for my daily work. I would love to replace all my sticky notes and notebooks though with a digital notebook. Hoping for some advice and thanks in advance!
Thanks for the really nice comment. I love the Boox Note Air 3 C for notes, but if it is just notetaking that you need then the remarkable is still brilliant purely for that, the supernote is a great platform, and also the scribe is the best budget entry into e-ink note taking now.
Hope that helps, or does it add to the confusion. I also think if you might branch out to doing more on your e-ink device it make sense to go Boox because then you can install apps and diversify your use later on.
Thanks. Sorry, are you saying your Note Air 3 C has a 2.4 rather than 2.8 GHz processor? I know Boox advertise it as coming with a 2.4 but lots of people seem to be claiming that running Geekbench on it shows their device having a 2.8 GHz processor. Also, presumably another con of this device - unless I missed you saying that - is its much shorter battery life than the Note Air 2/+. However, I imagine that many users will find that manageable - they just have to charge it more often than they do their Kindles or some other e-tablets but then e Note Air 3 C is so much more than a Kindle or Remarkable 2, etc. I am enjoying mine for sure.
Don’t underestimate the Ultra C Pro performance - the 855 SOC is far more powerful than the one in the 3C. It benchmarks more than twice as fast in all areas. However, in reality it doesn’t *feel* that much faster, because it’s the e-ink screen that is the bottleneck in everyday use. For me it’s clearly the better option as I use a keyboard and mouse far more than I write with a pen. The 3C is the better choice if you do a lot of handwriting, because of the textured screen (which does make it less sharp than the Pro though).
Has the 855 been confirmed? I have seen some speculation that this is the case, and it lines up with the AnTuTu score in the Boox presentation, but I've heard the 685 too. If it's 680 vs 685 I'm going 3C due to the more textured screen (no intention of the using the keyboard - I'd rather use my low-profile mechanical KB), but if it's 680/685 vs 855 that's a very different story. I don't need it to be a powerhouse, but literally twice the performance is difficult to pass up. Does anyone know if there's a way to apply the texture layer from the 3C to toe Ultra C (Pro)?
@@cjermo Yes it's the 855. I have a Pro and have posted benchmarks on Reddit in the Boox subreddit (also as a comment to MyDeepGuide's recent performance video on UA-cam).
Thank you for your videos! I just got my Note Air 3C and I love it. Except for the battery life like you said! But its great overall. One question. Should I power down my device every time? Or is it better for batterly life longevity to just allow the note air to go to sleep mode?
Thank you for your helpful reviews. My question is if i will use exclusively for reading without wifi but with front light at half at least and with taking notes on the book it self how long the battery will last? I hope I will get the answer as this is the deal breaker for me..
Thank you for all of your videos, this is very helpful, one question I have about all e ink tablets, it seems to that all these note taking tablets have notes as papers with specific paper size (like real papers) is there a tables or app that has larger writing space so if I writing or sketching and needed more space rather than a new page. I hope this makes sense
I've been looking at getting an E-ink tablet for note taking and journaling when I start school next year. How does this Boox Note Air 3 C stack up against the SuperNote A5X? It'll just be a companion device for notes and annotating.
I think that the note taking app on Supernote is a little better for well organised notes, but that overall you'll find so much more versatility with Boox that I would go for that.
Does the Boox Note Air 3 C (or any other e-ink tablet) have an "annotation summary" feature? I review long academic papers, theses, and reports, and I noticed that the Kindle Scribe that I'm borrowing to try out has a nice feature for collecting all annotations: it only shows the pages that I made a handwritten note on, and I get to see the page and mark up in miniature so that when I compose my critique, I can look only at my comments *in context* so that I easily formulate my reply. I have a Remarkable 2, and I don't think it has such a feature. Notability on my iPad has a similar feature for summarizing annotations, but I have to type the annotation and that breaks the rhythm (write by hand, then type). I prefer to "write directly on the report" rather than writing in some sort of annotation breakout box. Thanks!

@@JJ305JJ HI, yes I ended up with Samsung S8 Ultra tablet. It was on sale and offered me a few more items such as email integration, and office apps. This suited my needs
I have the note air 3c and the only issue I have is the fact is has difficulty deciphering handwriting to text. I have nearly perfect handwriting/penmenship and is either adds extra letters to what I wrote or it switches to random character symbols. Other than this issue, I love the device. I use it a lot. It eliminated my paper notepads and a lot of clutter.
Yeah, I find that the handwriting conversion is really good in the recognition in the keyboard app, but pretty naff in the notes app! I have no idea why.
Hiya, a generic one will do fine. But the best chargers are the ones which have "power delivery" (PD) standard. These have a way of handshaking with the device to decide the best voltage and current for the device. I thought about doing a comparison video of chargers once, but in reality all the PD ones are great. They also charge my camera which is very useful!
I'm still working on my Supernote A5X and am wondering if it is time for an upgrade. I have a laptop for productivity, so that is not what I'm looking for. But I use my A5X for lots of note taking and noodling (thinking). What I like about it is the table of contents, which is useful particularly as my notes grow longer. But the other tools are less useful, at least for me. Will the A3C be an appropriate move? I think the Ultra is not my use case. Thoughts?
Yeah, it will be a perfect mix of notetaking supremeness and apps for you. However, you might consider holding out for the next generation of Supernote X devices. :-)
Just wait for the new supernote x5 x2, Rata always comes up with tons of free updates, I wouldn't probably bother with Boox, I feel like they can get very distracting with the amount of things that they can offer
Oh, getting so close to having a device worth replacing my iPad! What do you think about the likely longevity of the textured screen? It means you can’t use a screen protector, so I’m worried that it will end up with scratches and worn-down patches, certainly within the minimum 5-8 year life I’d expect of a device at this cost.
Reminds me of the shiny keys that appear on a year or so old laptop, I can see the same appearing on these screens but the thing I'd be more concerned about is the battery cycle count... before or after that is reached the device wont hold a day's charge. Most computer batteries nose dive at around a thousand cycles, and if you're recharging your device every day you've got about three years. Supernote are likely to offer their new A5X2 later this year with a replaceable battery, but as an A5X user you need to know they have taken a very different route to Boox, and wouldn't suite you if you're looking for an iPad replacement. No one is talking about this cycle count issue, maybe they know something I don't... but if it is an issue people need to know about it before purchasing.
