  • Had a client commission me to replicate a molding he had in his home that he could no longer get. Had a cutter made for my Williams and Hussey molding machine and ran some molding. Had a embossing wheel cut by a water jet and then I made the machine to run it on. 1/2" steel plate for the bottom and 3/8" plate for the sides. Drilled a 1 1/2" hole in each plate and two 3/8" holes so I could mount the 1" bore pillow block bearings. Bought a 1" diameter by 12" long shaft and some 1" bore locking collars. Some drilling, some welding and some ingenuity and you have yourself an embossing machine.

Can the embossing will been heated with an electric current and maintain a constant temperature. Avoiding the torch method

I'm sure it could. It would take a heck of a power supply since the electrical resistance is near zero for all that metal.

Is their any other way without heating.

You could probably wet the molding, but that will likely cause other issues. The heating prevents the wood fibers from breaking instead of just being formed by the embosser.

Leo, Very nice looking, I liked that profile and the embossing made it even better. Do you have a knife pattern for that profile?

Yes, I have a set of knives for the Williams & Hussey molder.

@@lrgwoodcrafting Is the knife set a standard profile or a profile you designed ? Where did you purchase? Thanks, I just received my Shop Fox W1812 yesterday first time ever owning or using a moulder. I am looking forward to making my own base, crown, casing and any other thing I can do with this machine. Thank you for your time in responding. Jack

@@jwar2163 I had a client come by with that molding and needed it replicated. I took his sample to my knife sharping company because they can make W&H knives. The Shop Fox is a copy of the W&H so I'm sure they could be made for that machine. They made me the knife which is just the upper profiled section, not the flat. Just ran what I needed plus more to test the embossing machine and he was a happy client.
