It reminded me of how sugar makes my asthma act up. I don’t know if you could get him checked for asthma but sugar can trigger it sometimes. And basically the muscles in your throat contract closed and make it hard to breathe. A drink of water usually makes it stop. I was like freaking out,” get him a drink!” I sure hope he just swallowed wrong tho

I would recommend taking an Infant/child CPR class. Knowing what to look for and how to react will give you some peace of mind.

    • @chouser19
      @chouser19 3 роки тому +10

Agreed. If the child is upright and you pat their back, it can knock whatever they are choking on further down their windpipe.

    • @janellee250

@@chouser19 very true but not mushy paste material. It’s almost like cheese does when it gets stuck. It just kind of stays there but since he was coughing there was air getting through so some water could help wash it down

We had a similar scare with our 11 month old. He actually choked on a coin though that one of our bigger kids dropped on the floor. I had to flip him upside down and tilt his head to the floor and practically beat his back to get it out. He was choking for maybe 45 seconds but it felt like an eternity. It's such a scary thing to happen.
You guys handled it well I think and I definitely don't think you were being dramatic or over reacting. You reacted appropriately. Glad he is ok!!!

I know that was probably scary, but he wasn't choking! He was gagging on his spit mixed with the frosting!
I would highly suggest taking a CPR class, a lot of places offer them!
Just as a reminder, a rhyme they taught us was 'Loud and red (which he was) they're not dead, silent and blue they need help from you!'.
Patting their backs or reaching in their mouths can actually cause the gagging (which is the bodies natural way of preventing choking and working things up) to escalate into choking!
    Definitely not dramatic!

Your bathroom is so cute! It's crazy how a room can change so much without crazy renovations. Also, I wouldn't recommend you to keep a medicine cabinet in your bathroom. I've seen that's pretty common in the US but the humidity and heat that it's constantly on bathrooms isn't good for medicine. It can shorten the shelf life of many products. Hope this helps 🥰
Extra: In my country (and most LATAM) we are used to keep our medicine on top cabinets in the kitchen, I find it kinda weird to put medicine in the bathroom area since it's easier for children to find

absolutely not overreacting. he was trying a new food, so him coincidentally choking a little on swallowing it wrong lines up with, "oh god, we did not prepare for if he had an allergy". if that happened with my best friend's baby brother, i'd be scared too. a lot of people are suggesting learning baby cpr, which i didn't know was a thing, but that sounds genius

When I was in school for medical assistant we learned CPR. Having the CPR knowledge made me feel prepared and gave me the feeling of " I know what to do". I reccomend CPR classes this helps a lot even if the choking only happens once, I felt safe knowing that I knew what I could do to help out and help others as well. In CPR there are many other signs that you will learn how to recognize in order to know which action to make. I'm not sure if the CPR advice was already given, the thing I learned best is "knowledge is everything".

It's better to jump into action all paranoid than be too relaxed!!!! Happy Harbor was okay. I wonder if it also could have been that weird, almost burning sensation excessively sweet things can give you in your throat?? I've had that a handful of times and it takes my breath away and I have to keep swallowing to get it to go away. Maybe he was experiencing that?

So i dont think that would be wierd. Or they do make those tanks with a divider. So its still technically one tank but you can divide it so the fish is on one side and the snails are on the other.

Hi girls and Harbor! I see he scared you to death! This time is just the first of many! I don't know if this helps but remember if he is coughing he is breathing, and that's a very good thing. If he is grabbing at his throat and his lips are turning blue, he isn't breathing and that's bad obviously bad! I'm sure you have read up on child and infant CPR. It is helped my anxiety a lot when a woman told me this while my son was choking. Both of you are wonderful mother's. Harbor is a very lucky baby to have two amazing moms. Hello!! Although I don’t currently own any snails, I’ve been owning bettas for 8 or so years now, and I have a few suggestions.
One thing you could do, if you do get a separate tank for the snails, is add some bright and vibrant freshwater shrimp into the tank (If you don’t want them to reproduce, then you can buy amano shrimp). They look really cool, mainly feed off algae growing within the tank, and you can actually see through the amano shrimp.
You could also buy a bigger tank in hopes that the extra space could give them more room to separate, decreasing the aggression.
However, I do not suggest putting any shrimp with bettas, because from experience, the bettas are aggressive towards the shrimp. (I even have a female, and she’s always trying to find them. She’ll dig through the moss I have at the bottom of my tank to try and find them.)
In other words, it’s really up to you. Just be cautious with what you add!!

Yall did fine your were calm and handled it immediately. He probably just choked on his saliva, or went down wrong.I've worked with kids and have been trained,I would recommend parents, grandparents, or whoever is watching kids to be trained in first aid, adult, infant and child c.p.r.,and medicine administration. It's always good just know in case of emergency.

I'm glad Harbor was OK. You guys did the right thing. My niece had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital on Boxing Day and they said the same thing - we did the right thing by calling them. You can never be too cautious with a baby because they can't communicate to tell you what they need or what's wrong. Glad Harbor's OK. My niece was too.
