    Worth noting that if you park your car in a hot climate, cabin overheat protection may drain your battery just as much as Sentry Mode-something to keep in mind. Ideally the solution is just for airports to have slow chargers available.

      How about a Long Term Parking" setting! Sends car into deep sleep. Out of all the aspects of programming the coders do for all the functionality this should be higher on the list. More and more owners are requesting this for obvious reasons. ICE car parked six months - starts straight away.

    • @tedlandy
      @tedlandy 10 місяців тому +1

      @@otto_schwarzkopf why? It is already built in. So long as you deactivate Sentry and COP it will already go into deep sleep shortly after parking. Not much is awake apart from the security controller looking for keys or handle press and the modem in low power paging mode looking for a poke sms upon an API call from app. COP is a gimmick that every other car seems to manage without and sentry mode is of little use in a long term car park, provided you are insured. BTW loads of us aircrew have been leaving Teslas parked at Melb airport for weeks at a time over the past few years now without issue. Keep in mind every time you access the car with the app it wakes the canbus and the processors draining the battery, so I avoid doing this if I need a high charge state on returning.

    • @otto_schwarzkopf

      @@tedlandy It would be good for those who need it to lose less than the claimed 1% battery capacity per day to have a greater charge level upon return 8-10 weeks later. Some people leave cars in their garages for that long and don't want it plugged in all that time either. Very cold weather exacerbates the issue.

    Parked my Model Y for 2 months in the winter, no sentry mode, lost about 5% of charge per month.
    It was plugged in starting at 80%, set the charge point at 60%. Would query the car once a week.

    First like, first comment! What an interesting video! They should add some more chargers around the airport, it would be sweet if they could invent something along the lines of designated ev parking areas at airports, where you can trickle charge it long term, with inbuild airport chargers that are locked in place, so you can have sentry mode on etc, and have a full battery when you get back. The free trickle charge is interesting, but some people could possibly steal them? As well as cost being higher. don't know if it would become a thing, as it has its cons, and I assume would come at a relatively high price. Love the usability that comes with owning a Tesla! Only a 2% drop for 11 days is amazing! Edit: Your comment just game up after mine haha!

      @@farmerfarmerer3847No. It took me awhile to be convinced that it’s engineered that way. I even took my car back to the Tesla Service Ctr convinced that there’s something seriously wrong with ‘hardly’any windscreen washer water 💦 at the driver side wiper.
      If you’re lucky you might come across a YTube vid (in slow motion ) demonstrating how Tesla windscreen wipers actually operate. ( sorry I can’t remember the name of the channel, it’s from the UK, a few years old too, but it’s the best I have come across and it has settle the issue on my mind )
      Tesla wipers are like those on Mercedes or Audi, they have 3 water jet outlets, pointed to 3 directions on your windscreen. The centre jet emits windscreen water directly at your windscreen. When the windscreen wipers are in motion, this actions work faster than your eyes can see. ( that’s why this channel used slow motion camera to prove this important point, it’s invaluable). The other 2 jets point to the 2 different ends of the wiper. Because these jets travel a much shorter distance than the other wiper (passenger side) jets, you will see less of the water on your screen. ( With the kind of glass roof on Teslas, you can imagine how their engineers have to solve the issue common on most gas cars with windscreen washer jets discharging all over the roof of their cars or any one following behind. Ahh, I miss the good old days of my gas car doing that to unsuspecting tailgaters. )
      Caveat: In some instances, the tubing each wiper could be detached from the Y connector that connects the supply tubing to the windscreen washer bottle. You have to remove the panel in your Frunk (carefully) to investigate this possibility and yes, you can reattach it yourself, saving a trip to the service Ctr.
