Tobermory is a quality whisky. Headline citrus notes for sure. In addition to various spices throughout, a nice & somewhat unique coffee note comes through in the finish of Tobermory and Ledaig offerings - reinforcing Ben's spot-on comments regarding complexity.
How does this compare to the Deanston 12 and Bunnahabhain 12? Absolutely love the both of those and they're also owned by Distell. They clearly know what they're doing and it seems like all 3 of the 12 year olds are bottled at 46.3% and all at a similar price point. Would love to try this and Ledaig 10 if they're on par with my other favourites.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Ledaig 10 is an amazing peat monster. That bottle created my love of malt. And my insane desire for this 12. It showed up in NY after a year, someone told me it was not being imported. One of the most expensive 12 year olds. But I would have paid anything. Insane. It's a bit more flavorful than the others. Deanston is perfect and Bunnhabhain is a bit of sherry.
"...bottled at 46.3%, so...hmm...bit strange there." No it isn't, all core offerings from Distell (Bunnahabhain, Deanston, Tobermory, Ledaig, ) are bottled at 46.3% ABV.
agree the review largely ....very intense whisky with a lot of spice, nice and warming, a little oily but really nice, long after taste....why bother spend more on the other gimmicky cask maturations (rather expensive too) when you have this excellent unpeated one and Ledaig which is fantastic in its own right
Just tried this bottle .a fine single malt with fruits and spice with long after taste . Complex aswel . Great price great whisky great review .

Ben, look in the mirror before you film. That's some serious bed head there.
I noticed that as well. I find it rather charming, however. Don't change a hair, Ben.
@Adam Schoedel - it took Ben 3 hours to get it that way; that's the style!
and no glass....one of those days...we all have them
