you all probably dont give a damn but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@@BahamaLlamaCoralI’m not very savvy when it comes to YT analytics. What do you take from the stats when the number of views for a video is higher than the number of subscribers. Seems like we see the opposite on many channels. Enjoyed the video.
I try not to do it this way if at all possible. Mainly for safety reasons mainly. If you slip you could damage the zoa and maybe even injure yourself. It's possible, just be careful.
Always appreciate the vids. I would use more tripod b roll footage for the tank shots. Love seeing corals up close and it’s hard to see on a smartphone
I was suprised when i saw you didnt have a million subs, your content is awsome! You made me have the confidence to buy my own corrals and you taught me how to take care of them. Keep up the good work!
Exactly way I learned to start fragging. Mostly zoas and sps. Want to get a bandsaw n try getting some Lobos and maybe try fragging a scolly. Never know lol. But have to get those first long before I can frag em
What are Zoas supposed to look like first thing in the mornings when the lights are off. It’s my first time with a coral and they look ok in the day with lights on, they just don’t look too healthy first thing in the morning just before I turn the lights on.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral ok. I just feel like I don’t want to leave the light off all night incase they die. They seem really droopy and kinda lifeless once left for about 12 hours with the lights off. They do perk up after but I feel they shouldn’t be that limp in the morning.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral great thank you. It’s just nobody puts up any pics or video of corals when there closed and first thing in the morning before the light is on. I ain’t got a clue if they look normal or not. But to me they don’t seem right in the morning
That is a good question. As long as it's 100% cyanoacrylate you should be good. It's widely accepted as a good marine adhesive for not only fragging but aquascaping as well. Some of my small rocks in the lagoon were attached with super glue gel!
There was still some remaining plug that I grabbed onto there. It looks like I'm smashing the zoa but I'm not. If I've ever had a straight up zoa without any rock or plug attached I used a small makeup brush to move it around.
This whole time I thought you were suppose to wear the mask... but now I see I've been doing it all wrong! You casually set it on the table for maximum protection! Thank you for this instructional video! 😊🦉🍻
Remy your buddy that made you dolor sines for your pricing when u went to the swap to sell your coral. does he make and sell them. if so i would like some made. thanks Joe
Sometimes I frag just to help spread them around my tank but soon as I set up my 7 yo sons tank I’m going have backups in his tank now unless I decide to put my bta’s only in his tank
I was thinking that if I leave them as clusters they would grow and multiple faster, if you guys think it doesn't matter I think I'll start making frags. Thanks man
Do you use new frag plugs or do they need to be cured first? I have a ton in my sump but someone sent me about eight different zoas all on brand new looking plugs and the little mount on top of the plugs and turned crazy red. Is that cyano? Why would they turn so red? is that normal if they are new plugs because looks like i may have some cyano in my tank from that! Maybe she did that because she had cyano and it came back somehow. Very odd and suspicious that she would change all of them out! Great video Also how do you know they will make it like the third one that you had to cut more flesh? I have a lot of highends but a vendor told me they are difficult to frag and to go up under the flesh not even sure how you do that! Wish I had not of invested 3 k in them. I already had a lot of them melt! Didint realize how difficult highends are to grow and frag!
They don't necessarily need to be closed. The Blue Lagoon zoa in the video didn't fully close. However, it's a lot easier to see in between for the line you're going to razor if they are closed.
You're not. I know guys that do that. I just like to minimize the risk of damaging the zoa. It's just my preferred method. You just tank a clean razor and slide under the zoa?
Bahama Llama Coral not really. So when they are all open and happy in the tank - I take clean small scissors and just snip off a polyp. Then I take a turkey Bastet and suck out the polyp and put them all in a cup. Then I glue them to the frag plug. It does take them some time to recover but I’ve had no issues! That’s the only way I could think of doing it at my zoas are on a base rock🤷♂️
Think i am going to wait till they hit 15 then split them to put in my other tank and send one to a friend just so i have plenty of fall backs otherwise im going to have to take a hit again. 1st time i only had 2 heads and it melted after 3 months and the ones i have now are taking off started with only 2 heads from world wide
I always cut little shops in clusters. I'd look out for a good cut line as opposed to how many polyps. A lot of times one polyp will start to sneak away from the group. When that polyp forms more heads it'll be a lot easier to frag.
Tried fragging afew zoas somewhat recently, but didn't have much luck. I think a big part of that is because it wasn't well planned before hand. My latest attempt kinda just happened out of no where(previous attempt didn't go well, became unglued and zoa departed the plug and was being thrown around tank). Main issue I have with softies and some LPS is once you take time out of the tank they become slime. Have a hard time picking them up, even with forceps and knowing where to glue them. Btw do you prefer any particular brand of bone cutters? I got a frag kit from BRS but mine are on there way out. Thanks for video
I always plan out which coral I am going to cut in advance. From there, you gotta decide the lines you're going to use. Yeah, LPS and leathers are another ballgame. It's totally doable just a different set of tools. I use BRS bone cutters. They last longer if you rinse them in RODI after use.
hi.. i always see that people cut down the Zoas or Palys to one ore two polyps.. i figured out that they grow much much better when you leave them in bunches of 5 to 6 polyps .. try and check it out..
I found this to be true as well! I've had single polyps of "fast growers" for long periods of time. It's almost like they don't realize they've been cut when you leave them in 4-6 polyp bunches. For the purposes of this video and redundancy I don't mind waiting. Thanks for the watch!
Interesting basically busting off a piece of one frag plug and gluing it on another. Didn’t realize that’s how people fragged. Also I’d be hesitant to put that mask on after spraying some zoa juice on it!
I had that point in the original outline but took it out because I've never done that before. You'll notice the torch at the near the end of the video. I had a head die off about a week ago and it probably needs to be cut, like you mentioned.
Too bad we don't have enough distinct research on what zoas and palys contain palytoxin. Its the one thing stopping me from trying zoas. Zoas are amazing corals their only flaw is palytoxin.
It's not as scary as you might think. As long as you're not disturbing the polyp too much you should be good. I get it though. The hobby should be enjoyable, not scary!

Bahama Llama Coral totally get that. Just speaking from experience from cutting nightmare sopranos something that was like 100$ I got 5 polyps and split it within a week and they all died. It needs some blue, imo!
Great tutorial with information, like the basic breakdown for everyone to understand
Glad it was helpful!

Good choice! The addiction is real. They are kinda like Pokemon....gotta catch them all.
Yeah
Nice Vid !!! Those nightmares are amazing, there gonna look so good in your lagoon tank !!! 👍
YES!! I am a huge fan of the speckled variety no matter what color. The nightmares just POP with color though.
If I can't break the frag plug can I cut the actual polyp off of the plug with a razor?

@BahamaLlamaCoral thanks for the reply.

Just curious what do you keep your water parameters at for the zoas?
Alk - 8, Ca - 420, Mag - 1350. The key is nitrates in my mind. 5-10 ppm is the sweet spot. PO4 between .02 and .06ish.
What are Zoas supposed to look like first thing in the mornings when the lights are off. It’s my first time with a coral and they look ok in the day with lights on, they just don’t look too healthy first thing in the morning just before I turn the lights on.
Totally normal. They open when lights come on, they close (normally) when lights are off. Some zoas stay open more than others when lights are off.

I'd love to know how it is that superglue it's not incredibly toxic to a reef ??
That is a good question. As long as it's 100% cyanoacrylate you should be good. It's widely accepted as a good marine adhesive for not only fragging but aquascaping as well. Some of my small rocks in the lagoon were attached with super glue gel!

I think that's actually just the funky smell the basement produces...lol. Thanks Mok-Yi and YES, very early stages of something fun.

where did you get the tongs to grab the zoas
There was still some remaining plug that I grabbed onto there. It looks like I'm smashing the zoa but I'm not. If I've ever had a straight up zoa without any rock or plug attached I used a small makeup brush to move it around.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral no i mean like the long tongs your using to grip them and place them out of the tank lol
Hey, how do you attach loose zoas you find them floating around the tank?
Remove with a net or baster, pat bottom of zoa dry and glue to plug.
Thanks Remy! Great vid!
My pleasure! Thanks for the watch!

Hi, do zoas grow faster and multiply faster as a cluster or as single polyps?
They each kinda go at their own pace. It truly depends on the morph + tank params.
I was thinking that if I leave them as clusters they would grow and multiple faster, if you guys think it doesn't matter I think I'll start making frags.

Try using a Dremel to cut the plug.
Dremel would actually be a good idea to score the plug first actually. I don't trust myself with a tiny saw though. I'd lop off a finger for sure. 😂
@@BahamaLlamaCoral you would be surprised how easy they are and with a diamond blade, it doesn't immediately cut your skin when you touch it.

Can you use the Kent concentrate iodine?
I'd just check the concentration levels. I'm guessing the concentrate iodine is supposed to be diluted.
Bahama Llama Coral that’s my guess as well. I just didn’t know if it mattered what iodine you use.
I wonder what you use to soak your frag plug?😄and I look forward watching a video of fragging a zoa on rock😄
RODI or Tank Water works!
what glue do you use ?
SuperGlue Gel
