    I was gifted the Alienware R4 17 as a Christmas present. It is the best PC I have ever owned. I don't understand all of the Alienware hatred. It's like hating on Mercedes because you can't afford their cars.

    • @2010ngojo
      @2010ngojo 7 років тому +20

      William The 3rd
      The Alienware hate is because they used to be really expensive for the specs given. Especially for their desktops. Now, they are priced reasonably well for a name brand. The stigma stayed though.

    • @Warlock_UK
      @Warlock_UK 7 років тому +2

      Hate from me is because of the hardware failures I had and crappy customer service. At least I got a refund, though.

    • @holoparty9857
      @holoparty9857 7 років тому +6

      William The 3rd Hey, i was gifted the same laptop as well! But yeah the hate is all because of Alienware's reputation for being overpriced for weak specs. Sorta like apple but with gaming in mind. But they are now priced well with other competitors but they have the more premium design advantage.

    • @2ndtonone1000
      @2ndtonone1000 7 років тому +7

      Doesn't have anything to do with hating because you can't afford it, the other product is usually more cheaper like MSI and you get better components more ports , and it runs cooler. Alienware uses proprietary Dell components found in XPS such as motherboard and memory. At least when you buy a Mercedes it has alot of high end features and you are getting your moneys worth, not so with Dell, overpriced POS. At the end of the day you're not getting a Mercedes you're getting a Ford pretending to be a Mercedes.

    I bought my Alienware 17 R4 laptop on June 17, 2017 - on my birthday. Great laptop with a premium feel to it. The GTX 1070 8 GB plays every game on ultra settings that I throw at it without breaking a sweat. I edit photos and videos on it and they are rendered fast. The IPS panel is amazing. Beautiful projection of colours and very crisp to look at. What I miss in it is the SD card reader and an optical drive. The LED lights on the machine are just gorgeous! And there's a personality to this laptop that goes well with my style and personality. I carry it in an Alienware Vindicator 17" backpack and that's a beautiful backpack with all the lovely branding on it and metal buckles. My Alienware doesn't get hot as I have heard about it - and I live in a furnace. In Lahore, Pakistan, the temperature goes to 49 degrees Celsius easily during a hellish summer that begins in March and ends after October. And I don't find the fans to be too noisy at all.

    I watched this video 2 weeks ago as I was on the verge of buying one of these computers, and a lot of other videos but this one in specific encouraged me to leap towards the msi mainly for the cooling system. {Thank you Lisa Gade) The Alienware does look cooler and the slick design was hard to brush aside but I did and not regretting it. The msi does not disappoint, the performance is outstanding. Now last week in school, a girl bought the Alienware r4 17 with a gtx 1070 and told me the GPU died out in a week but dell came to repair it at her house(great customer service) and so far its working fine despite the constant overheating that draws concerns. Anyone planning on buying either, good-luck! May proper thermal provisions be with you.

      I’ve had both brands. Alienware all day everyday. If not for build quality alone. Switched to msi a few years ago a gt72 dragon edition. A year in the hinge broke and cracked the bezel. 2years in the charger port caught fire. Switched back to Alienware currently got the 17 r5 new 6 core i7 gtx 1080 with the qhd screen and loving it. It’s a shame that my very first Alienware 10 years ago was better built than today’s msi smh

If i repaste it will i be ok?? I have heard the real prpblem is the triangular heat sink in the alienware. Ive heard that becuase of of its shape its difficult to get all 3 points to make contact which is what leads to the thermal issues in these otherwise beastly machines. Otherwise i might just go for the msi but i may wait for the new gt75 coming out soon. What do you think?? Is alienware going to cause me headaches??

    On every laptop review please do a extensive battery test. For example playing fhd video in loop, browsing and playing youtube. Switching to low power mode or eco mode. For all laptop including msi, gsync off test and gsync on test for msi gt73vr because it has option for integerated graphics switch. And also for gaming laptop include extensive gameplay but dont record inside the laptop using inbuilt recorder, record the display outside using your camera. If you think gameplay will extend the video length then post the gameplay in seperate video and include the link. These were the points missing in your review, and also for gaming laptop, play it in room temperature above 30 degree Celsius and include the room temperature on all gaming laptop review, i bought msi gt73vr after seeing your video. My room temp without AC is between 28 to 38. My cpu temp is always at high 80 and it does thermal throttling. But battery which you didn't cover extensively is phenomenal. 5 hours+ with integerated graphics. Battery is really a pleasant surprise for me but multi tasking not so much.

    I had the Alienware briefly, and had to exchange it 3 times before giving up on it. Beware of pretty bad backlight bleed on the Alienware along both right and left sides. It seems they cheaped out on the screen, or have bad quality control. Like Apple, keep in mind with Alienware you are mostly paying for the brand, which is why you can find better configurations at better prices through Asus and MSI . My Alienware was bought at Bestbuy, so it did come from a reputable seller. Since then have moved over to the MSI

    Hey, Lisa. Great review! I badly need your opinion. I'm torn between HP OMEN X 17t vs ALIENWARE 17 r4 with both similar specs of:
    -i7-7820hk (both)
    -gtx 1080 (both)
    -32gb ram (both)
    -QHD 1440p 120Hz TN (AW 17) vs Full HD 1080p 144Hz IPS Display (Omen X) both w/ GSYNC
    -256GB PCIe SSD+1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s(AW 17) vs 1TB M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD+2TB 5400rpm HDD(Omen X)
    *it would cost me an additional $500 just to get 1tb+1tb on AW where I can get 1tb+2tb and save $500 with omen* but is there a big diff in performance from these specs/brand/type of storage?
    I watched most of your reviews and I know that Omen X doesn't have subwoofers and AW's screen is a lil better from my research but Omen has more usb slots and sdc reader than the AW. I'm just very weary with AW's cooling system for I've read a lot about its thermal throttling issues. Can you give me your honest opinion between the two laptops with the specs I've provided? As well as pros and cons that you can point out? Both are in very close price range atm with the specs I mentioned. Thanks you!

    If you own a laptop that you want to repaste, i recommend sending it to iunlock in vancouver. I had him repaste and repad my alienware 17 r4 which was having stuttering issues.

    Great vid thanks. My 4 year old Alienware 17 (I74900MQ) 16GB ram GTX680M is still going strong..the new one is way too deep I think for most normal rucksacks...bummer. AW/Dell make quality products as for upgrading mine to a GTX980M? and 4930MQ I'm not sure it's worth it...

    I thought I would add a few comments to this review as it convinced me to purchase an Msi over the Alienware. First the msi might run cool, but it is the loudest laptop I've ever owned. If you game with other people expect them to to complain about the jet engine in the room. The keyboard font is just awful one of the worst I've seen. I've had to spend a huge amount of time trying to get the monitor to look how I want. For two grand the monitor is very poor. In less than two weeks the bluetooth stopped working, then the killer software stopped. Having to revert back to the default install after posting this. If I could return this laptop I would and purchase myself an Alienware.

    Could anyone Please tell me why alienware does not have touch screen ? Already Razer Blade Pro provides touch screen gaming laptops. Unfortunately Razer Blade Pro is not sold in India and the only option is buy alienware. So I am waiting for alienware to become touch screen gaming laptop. Will it ever be possible ?

    Why do laptop manufacturers insist on such huge bezels on the display with giant manufacturer name is beyond me, they need to learn from mobile manufacturers on how to make their product more attractive to consumers.

    • @JonathanS89
      @JonathanS89 7 років тому

      this is normal for gaming laptops, a lot of Dell's regular laptops have very thin bezels like the Dell XPS line

    I have used both of these laptops the alienware had the 1070 and the msi the 1080. I have to agree the display on the msi was nicer but you can adjust the alienware. But the noise from the msi with the fans on holy crap they were so loud I thought my house ac was on. Over all there both nice and powerful you won't go wrong with either just depends on what looks you like best they both have pro and cons small ones I think. Oh I didn't notice a hear problem on the alienware I know dell supposedly fixed it?!

    It's not fair to compare a computer that's $1700-$1800 to a $3000 computer! I have watched several comparison videos about the Alienware because I'm thinking of getting one and every video is doing the same thing by comparing it to a computer that is $1000-$2000 more than the Alienware! NO SHIT the other computer is nicer it's twice the price! I want to see a video that compares two computers of the same price and tell me which one is better not two computers that have the same components!
