The Future of God (A Conversation between Deepak Chopra, M.D. and Kyra Phillips, CNN)
Deepak Chopra explains that truth is available to our understanding if we evolve to higher states of consciousness. Full awakening is knowledge of your true nature, which is the ultimate truth.
Kyra: But really we won’t know until we die? You won’t know the ultimate truth to all these questions until we die.
Deepak: If you go through life waking, dreaming, and sleeping you won’t know. But if you evolve to these higher states of consciousness then the unknown will become known to you. That is called a death in samadhi or a full awakening. So you will know because the unknown will become known to you. Not only will you know, but you can plan the trajectory of your journey through cosmic time. The soul is on a journey through cosmic time. You can orchestrate because you are awakened to the bigger reality. You can orchestrate your journey through cosmic time. Right now you and I are having a meeting in cosmic time. It’s a short meeting because look at eternity. An entire life time is a blink. This is a blink within a blink within a blink within a blink. But this a meeting in cosmic time and there’s karma-which means you’re here to learn something from me and I’m here to learn something from you. We’re here to expand that consciousness within that spiral. So the goal actually is to wake up now. When Buddha was dying, the story we’re told is, the same guy Ananda who saw the universe in the flower, which is very similar to you know… William Blake. To hold infinity in the palm of your hand and see eternity in the flower… or something like that. Ananda saw the same thing. So when he was dying and Buddha died quite consciously and this is called mahasamadhi, you know many people do that they die in full awareness in meditation. It’s part of the great wisdom traditions. You get so use to people dying with cancer, in hospitals with tubes that you don’t know that there’s actually a very elegant exit you can have.
So Buddha was dying and Ananda said to him, “Are you God?”
    Buddha said, “No.”
He said, “Are you a prophet?”
    Buddha said, “No.”
He said, “Are you a messenger?”
    Buddha said, “No.”
He was getting impatient (Ananda) with him as there wasn’t much time and he was going to take his last breath and he said, “Who are you?”
    Buddha said, “I’m awake.”
