Lost Cities is one of the best 2 player card games ever made! Perfect game if you and a friend ever need to kill time for a few hours or just have some fun. Once you get used to it you don't even need the board, which means you can carry just the cards around to play.
I guess im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Ali Harley I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Just played it for the first time, this game is intense. Every move you do gives information away, so many tricks and deceptions are possible. There are so many ways to play a hand that it does take away a lot of the luck of the game, there is a lot of poker in this. This game is really good.
The rule of the handshakes: if you play it, your opponent will make sure you do not reach the 20. If you have enough of a color, your opponent will make sure you do not get handshakes.
Good comment! I was thinking the same thing. Arboretum is probably the better game to keep in your collection because of the fact that it can handle more than two players, when necessary. I love Lost Cities, but it is true that I haven't played it since I got Arboretum.
I bought this game thanks to Tom’s review. I like the game but the cards are extremely thin and flimsy - I don’t see this one surviving very long. I was disappointed that he didn’t mention the card quality. I intend to take this game camping but I don’t know how long it’ll last. At least it was pretty cheap...
Just looked this up and realized there’s a board game as well! Any major differences? Most BGG posts I’m reading seem to think you may as well get the board game to expand player count
Wow, surprised that Tom says he normally plays 2 or 3 colors. I find myself almost always going at least 3, and 4 isn’t uncommon either. I know he’s played this game a lot so maybe I’ve always been overaggressive with this game
I just never got it. I played the game when it first came out and didn't like it. Wierd, I know....... It felt like you played whatever you had in our hand.
I absolutely hate this game. I felt like I was being punished every time I played a card. Blind drawing, too luck based, and convoluted point scoring are 3 strikes against this game for me. My son and I played this game, and my son smashed me every round. Not because he had skill, but because every draw off the deck was in his favor. This game has made steer clear of almost every game that Reiner Knizia has designed. If I still had my copy, I'd burn it. And if it was ever given to me as a gift, I'd burn it. Just to make sure that one less Lost Cities is in circulation. Tom you're a great guy, but this game blows. But this is just my opinion of course. And opinions are like armpits. We all have them, and they all stink.
Z-Dub There is obviously a lot of luck involved in the card drawing but by paying attention to your opponent you can make a semi-informed decision about the best card to lay or discard.
Z-Dub The other benefits are you can play 3 rounds in about 15 minutes (some games take that long to set up!) and the rules are really simple so you can play with anyone. As the review suggests it’s a push your luck style game, so you have to accept that you’ll just be unlucky on occasions, but overall the better player will come out on top more often.

This is a great two player game. The tension you discribe is true to the game. One of my all time favorites.
this deserves an "why I love..." video, doesn't it?
Love Tom's passion in this one.
I just found this on clearance for $5 at Target, seems like I made a great choice picking it up!
Damn, that’s fucking cheap! Jelly. Here it’s $37.
The new graphics are good, but I liked the old ones even better (especially the wager cards).
They are Investment cards, representing the men with money that fund the expeditions to the five locations.
I’m always looking for good two player games. Looks like I’ll be adding this to the list. Thanks, Tom!
nice animation of the box art at the end! (wreck raiders too, went back to see if there were more)
Loving your hat on this one, excellent choice.

@Marco Ty instablaster :)

@Ali Harley It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
@Marco Ty you are welcome :)
5:50 I can definitely feel his emotion when he says "her" - channeling some frustration there Tom? LOL
My mom's favorite game. She cant get enough of it.

I didn't realize they reprinted this!
I wonder... does the expedition cards make a panorama like they did in the previous version?

images on cards still create a bigger picture if lined up?
Definitely putting this on my list.
This game is awesome, are there other games which have the same tension? Love when you have to choose the lesser of two evils.
You could try Schotten Totten, also from Reiner Knizia
Is that Vincent Dutrait artwork?
Dan K yes
Lost Cities or Lost Cities Rivals? Would like to know which you would recommend more between the two?
How would I tell which version I'm buying without opening the box?
Michael Condon I got mine from GameNerdz - the lid says “includes 6 expedition”. I believe the box cover is also different.
Salut JP, quand tu dis que tu te débarrasses des tes jeux, ça veut dire quoi exactement ? Je me pose cette question pour certains de mes jeux…
Dang I just picked up an old copy of this. Colors seem easier to see than original.
Question: Lost Cities or Arboretum for 2p card game???
Good comment! I was thinking the same thing. Arboretum is probably the better game to keep in your collection because of the fact that it can handle more than two players, when necessary. I love Lost Cities, but it is true that I haven't played it since I got Arboretum.
We have both, got Arboretum a few months ago and Lost cities a few weeks ago. We love them both, but I think in Arboretum the tension is even higher.

Lost cities is really casual in a nice way. I hear arboretum is a real brainburner and cut-throat, so I wouldn't even compare them.

As great as Lost Cities is Battleline is even better and more intense.😬
Great game. If you don't have the game at hand, just use a regular poker deck. J,Q,K work as handshake cards, A as 1. All set. You're welcome. :)
There are no 1 cards in Lost Cities. Also it would make for a shorter and more cutthroat game with at least one less expedition
That's only four suits, genius.
Just looked this up and realized there’s a board game as well! Any major differences? Most BGG posts I’m reading seem to think you may as well get the board game to expand player count
Why aren’t the symbols on the board? That makes the symbols worthless
They are! (On later printings)
I liked the old artwork a lot better.
Why is it called Lost Cities?
Danke

I feel if I'm playing you, and you do four colors, I'll mop you up. Or at least, that's what I hope!
The Dice Tower Ha, very likely, you’ve had way more practice than I have!
I bought lost cities but ended up with a whole board game such a bummer!
So weird to see you review this again.
Darn it bought the original a month ago...didn't see this version :(
SeaRose i think the artwork on the older one is better honestly.was looking for an excuse to buy the new one but the art just doesnt do it for me..
Is this game much luck based?
Bought this game, it's awesome.

I can see your point. But for me, there are too many other better 2 player games out there that don't induce rage in me.

Hi
why even put a theme on a game like this
Because themes make a game sell better... It's not rocket science
