As a person that played eldar in 2nd edition, I have to say I wish swooping hawks would get back there grenade packs that allowed them to drop grenades on a unit they moved over in the movement phase, they still have the pack modeled on there lower legs
I agree Hawks are great this edition. They score well and do solid damage against many targets due to lethal hits. They also combo great with the Yncarne.
Thanks for this, I really like my aspect warriors. Very good point about the hawks losing points to go with their durability drop and new skill ceiling.
I hate that if a unit is not s tier, it might as well be trash. I have completely stopped comparing everything to 9th, it does not exist to me. I have enjoyed everything a lot more and have been using everything as it is. I am biased for swooping hawks and Baharroth they are my favorite and are the reason i chose Eldar as my first army(just thought they looked cool). I have had a lot of luck with them, mostly use them to score points and whipe out infiltry, i love the mind games as well. You can use spiders in similar ways and are better but why would i use them when i like hawks more?
I'd like them but the old sculpts.. I just can't 😂 I did notice the skyleaper has grenade keyword. I might try some shenanigans fates messenger + fusion gun + grenade see how much dmg I can do :D
They kind of have the same role except warp spiders have a slightly wider range of targets at shorter range at the cost of a more versatile delivery system and greater range. It’s a trade off really
Hawks and spiders are a good combo, I think. The way your opponent need to screen both seem to be quite challenging, at least (in my experience) if you add fire prisms in your backfield (that your opponent need to think about as he screens).
I'm building a list I plan on using competitively with some corsairs and I've included a unit of swooping hawks using the forgeworld corsair models armed with lasblasters as "counts-as"... question is, do I keep it as a 10-man unit, or split up for two 5-man units?
Agreed it isn't 9th, but the utility of these guys is insane. Victory points win games, and so don't Swooping Hawks. The ability to be where you need them much like Warp Spiders is what makes them shine... I will spend 225 points all day to max secondaries.
I can’t figure out if Swooping hawks ability Skyleap functions in the same way as Mandrakes ability Fade away. They are worded differently but I think they mean the same or am I wrong?
They are functionally the same, the only reason why the mandrakes rule is worded that way is because they do not have deep strike so the wording has to be more specific
@@ProxyHammer1 Aspect heavy. Amazing that it comes at exactly 2000pts. The great element is that there are a great deal of 75pt units I can swap around, and also juggle Runners and Spectres depending on foes I'm facing.
@@ProxyHammer1 I've just watched a video on Ynnari by Art of War. It was a very capable army, extremely so, but so fluff wrong, it actually hurt to look at it. Obviously they looked at the rules to think what would win. It was very vehicle centric. Ynnari is about Redemption, or at least Salvation. Therefore, it should be an infantry army in the main, and include Craftworld, Drukhari, Harlequin and Corsair foot troops, but limited vehicles. I'm thinking about the Children's Crusade of 1212. Given it's apparent failure, it would fit the Aeldari environment perfectly.
@@nickthenoodle9206 Ya AoW is a very competitive channel geared towards “winning first”. You will never see a fluffy list on their channel lol 😂 personally I think Ynnari, corsairs, and Quins need their own books and separate rules
Most of them are very good but I only suspect Wraith units to get the nerf bat by possibility removing devastating wounds and replacing it with something else
I'd love that, but historically they are very heavy handed. If they nerf they rarely help with struggling units.. I hope they will not go overboard 😆 I'd expect they'll help once codex creep finally overtakes us

@@ProxyHammer1 ill probably take a squad just for tactical objectives that involve 4 quarters or being in enemy deployment...... but thats the only reason! lol
Yeah i dunno man, theres a lot of other things that are better and do the same thing also they are infantry and can fly through ruins. Their guns are just terrible.
@@ProxyHammer1 guardians are also terrible. The only reason anyone took them was fate dice or hiding a farseer. They are a tax and required. Hawks are not.
@@clidefrog2 You mainly take them for objectives though. Also they have very similar damage to Dire Avengers for the same points plus they can fly and come in behind your opponent. I just don’t see how they are bad at 75pts 🤔 what other unit does the same thing??
@@clidefrog2 Spectres, Windriders, and Shrouds have different roles though. I wish they had that too! It should be a part of their skyleap ability
Or they could do something like allow them to be targeted by the grenade strat for 0 and can be used if already used that round by another unit.
@@randomcast3183 That would be really awesome!
As Lone Operative units become more and more common, the Hawks from deep strike are an ok counter

With new errata correct me if im wrong but deep strike that start on the board can now come back on turn 1. More eldar shinnagans.
