Just bought this Marlin on eBay for CAD $150. Beautiful watch, and I do prefer the black strap, having now seen a brown one set against it. Love this timepiece; it's extremely elegant.
Black strap looks better as it compliments the black-backed blocked numerals. Brown looks okay but tones down the visual impact of that significant design element.
The blue dial version also has the black-backed blocked numerals but comes with a brown leather strap. If all of the hour markers used that same black design I would have found it much more significant. It doesn't stand out enough to matter. The dial is what really matters
It is all about preference. I say a tri-color (Green+brown+black) setup is pretty good as well.
@@ocb05 I simply prefer brown leather straps because I rarely wear black like I said in the video. so if I'm wearing khaki shorts with a brown belt and brown leather Sperry Topsiders I'm not going to wear a watch with a black strap
@@TMPSpodcast yep it is your choice. You wear what you prefer. Same for me. Olive green or such blue , I would match with brown straps as well. Maybe even tanned brown strap.
Black strap for me would be alligator pattern leather strap for dressy occasions.
Though that neither made an impression due to the colour of the dial, nicer to find a strap that matched the dial, or if you you want, a silver mesh strap.

Saphire crystals are so cheap these days that there are zero resons to not have a domed saphire at this price. Lovely dial, though

I have a splendid restored 1962/3 chrome plated Vintage Gents Timex Viscount Self Wind Watch With Cross Bar Dial automatic, not as bulky as this modern watch, this new one just did not look and feel real, nothing there that said old Timex.
Well, it's not an old Timex. It's s modern Timex with design inspiration from older pieces. I sure as heck hope they never return to chrome plating.
