My grandpa bought himself a gnome statue once, so my grandmother told everyone he loved gnomes. He thought getting one from everyone for years was funny but he finally demanded no more gnomes. Now it's plain colored t shirts.

I never knew that was one of the words spelled differently in the UK vs the US. For no apparent reason, that seems really random.
@@phasianninja1388 there are actually a surprising number of differences in spelling between the British and the US.
Apparently spelling wasn't standardized by the time the American colonies declared independence.
If you look at images of original texts from the time period you find all sorts of weird things, like the "long s" that got used for words starting with 's' but looked more like an 'f'.

It's funny to me. In New Zealand we often use American words, like pants meaning trousers not underwear, but we always use the british english spelling like colour etc. But on this one word I've never once seen it with a silent O.
Although, apparently even 80% of British people spell it without the O.
