"Donna" is a song written by Ritchie Valens,[1] featuring the '50s progression.[2] The song was released in 1958 on Del-Fi Records.[3] Written as a tribute to his high school sweetheart Donna Ludwig, it was Valens' highest-charting single, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the following year. ("Stagger Lee" by Lloyd Price was at number one.)[4] wiki

As he was so very young and had only just began his musical career when he died, he only had a handful of hits. You've now done his three biggest ones, but if you want to keep going down this road, you can do "Framed", "Little Girl", "We Belong Together", or "That's My Little Suzie".

Richie Valens produced some of the most prolific songs in rock-n-roll during his brief 8-month career b4 a plane crash on 2-3-59 took his life (Age 17) and that of Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper on a day which is now infamously referred to as "The Day the Music Died". Can you even begin to imagine the music he had yet to create? So many of these icons died too early, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Duane Allman, Amy Winehouse and many others. RIP. As usual, great reaction.

I live about a mile from the house that Ritchie bought his mother. Ritchie is a big time hero here in Pactown. Pacoima Jr. High was renamed Ritchie Valens Middle School and when the Rec Center was being built people were tagging the building until they found out it would be dedicated to Ritchie, after that the tagging stopped. You don't disrespect Ritchie! Certainly not in Pacoima!

"Donna" was the biggest hit record Ritchie Valens charted, peaking @ #2 for 2 weeks (1st charted late 1958 - peaked early 1959). The B-side of that record was the record he's most identified with -- "La Bamba" (which was charted separately a month after "Donna" first charted) and peaked @ #22. "Donna/La Bamba" was a gold record/ "La Bamba by itself is in the Grammy Hall of Fame & The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

You should watch and react to 'La Bamba' , a movie from 1987 about Ritchie's too short life, played by Lou Diamond Philips. You can also see Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats playing Eddie Cochran and the other actors playing respectively Jackie Wilson and Buddy Holly! This song Donna is kinda haunting, especially the Oh Donna part. It must have been haunting his mother too , losing her young talented son like that. In the movie she shouts: Nooo, not my Ritchie! It's heartbreaking. His older brother does the same, shouting his name all out: RITCHIE!!

OMG, this is first time I hear Richie Valens version. I know the song from early seventies, when I was 13, by a group called the Buffoons. I just found out they were a Dutch band with close harmony singing and not well known abroad (at the time I assumed they were British or American). They were at the time cancelled as support act for the Beach Boys because their harmonies were too good. But good to hear the original version by Richie Valens, great song.

In 1957 there was a midair collision over the junior high school he was attending. 47 kids on the ground were hurt but three were un-alived by falling wreckage, one of the kids that didn't make it was Richie's best friend. Even though he wasn't at school that day it still left Richie Valens with a crippling fear of flying. So the first plane flight he ever took was on the day the music died.

You guys gotta hear his cover song of Maleguena, he really makes that instrumental his own by putting his own personal flavor or twist on the song. Jay you gotta listen to Maleguena if you like unique sounding guitar playing. You would really enjoy it my brother!

At first this was great, my name being Donna😉. Then as I got older and heard people sing this song to me over and over, I got to the point. Really! You have nothing better😂😂😂

When you did "La Bamba", that wasn't Richie Valens singing, it was a group called "Los Lobos" which was popular, when the movie was made. It wasn't Richie Valens at all! Do Richie Valens version of "La Bamba"! ...You won't get Richie Valens at all, unless you listen to his version of "La Bamba". His career was cut too short to know him otherwise.

As others pointed out, it is amazing what he already had achieved when he died having been only 17 years old. You should definitely check out "We belong together", in my opinion a wonderful song.
