Could listen to your dad all day long jo lovely video you are well wrapped up for the cold nice tractor
Thank you Finn 👋
Loved the tractors! Your Dad was great!
Thank you so much x
When I go to the county fair usually the very first thing I do is check out the vintage tractors. From there I check out the livestock, then the flower show. Then leave because I don't care about the rides, games, and bad food. --- Riding with your dad on the tractor brought back fond memories of riding with my dad on his milk route. Starting when I was old enough to hang on without falling out the door, around 1950, I would go with him on his milk route, delivering milk to people's homes. Often times I would skip school to go with him to work. Though I'm sure now days that would be frowned upon because (so called) schools are more worried about losing the money they get based on how many students are in school on a daily basis (sort of a babysitting fee since they really don't teach the children much anymore), than the educational value of going to work with a parent. I learned a lot about running a family owned business, keeping the books, ordering products, billing, and dealing with customers and people in general. In my 20s I became a milkman too.
I think the best way to learn is by being practical experience. School learning is over rated hehe. When I go to country shows I like to look at the livestock , and the floral art, baking and crafts ❤️
yes i enjoyed it, even without the sun;-)
Brilliant scenery loved seeing Derbyshire countryside. Thanks so much Joanna! ~Tracy

That brought back memories when I worked on a farm in Yorkshire Dales and we had a David Brown 885 and a 990 about 74-76 good times. Thanks.

your dad and his tractors he is in heaven on them hugsssss
Thank you Tammy you sweetheart I hope you are keeping safe and well
Absolutely beautiful thanks for taking us along. I spent a lot of time riding the fender as a kid. But a word of caution seen a young kid in a hospital been riding with dad on a rough field bounced against the door latch and went under the tire. Full body cast with broom handles through it to help move her. It's an image that's hard to forget . European tractor usually have buddy seats but hang on and stay safe.
Thanks to the two of you
Yep you know I think accidents definitely can happen easily on a farm with the machinery. I felt pretty secure and was hanging on tight ! Good job dad drives nice and steady ,
Hi great old tractor I have drove one like it your dad is lucky to still have one
Hey Tim, they are very loved here

Hey Nancy , I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Have you had much rain yet? X
@@DaleFarm hi Joan , Saddly no , It was 65 degrees at night a couple of days ago very unusual for this time of year . The last couple of nights it's gotten colder , so the day is colder . it a another sunny day .We have no green none . Eny green is left over from watering the grass in late fall and that's going fast .Love to see the green hills and vally of UK . I watch Farmer P , and Tom Pemberton in the UK too . And they are getting too much rain .Their fields are flooding .
Thanks again look forward to another trackter ride .I really love your vidios .Thanks have a good day .Nancy in Utah
Lovely tractor, good to see your dad driving and enjoying himself 👍👍
Cheers nick he’s in his element
Wow , this brings back some very fond memories as a young lad on the farm driving the old MF. Just looking at the steering wheel , hand controlled revs and the lovely chuntering of the engine . Thank you, you have made me smile and think back to some great times as a younger man. God bless you you both.
Hey thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it 😎 it’s nice to be reminded of happy memories isnt it. I have been doing some tractor lessons lately with dad so maybe I will need to have a go on the David brown myself
Your father is definitely in his element, shepherding that 885 along the road, like the captain if a great ship headed to places known and unknown, with adventure in his heart and memories aplenty. Reminds me of my Dad with his old Oliver tractor in the 1950s, farming our wheat field. Thanks for the scenic ride along.
Next time hopefully the sun will
Shine too ❤️
drive on, david and john:-)
Good to see you keepin them old tractors alive. Keep it up John 👍
Thank you David c
Well David guess that's the beauty of older tractors there isn't much to go wrong most are simple design and over engineered
Thanks for the ride. I would have thought he was going so much faster...the views were stunning.
Thank you Donna! Yes it was fast enough for me to be perched on the back!! Haha
Great idea for a video Joanna, really enjoyable.
Thank you Abbie xx
Joanna, you’re dad really looks in his element with the little David Brown. Such a cute design with none of the modern computer screens. Lovely scenery too 💜
i guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Jase Khalid Instablaster =)
@Asher William thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Asher William It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
@Jase Khalid no problem :D
That was fun. Amazing countryside.
I have an earlier DB 880. In the brown and white colours. With the older style cab. Only 7000 hours on it. They great old machines.
Are david browns your favourite then!? I do like the Nuffields best I think!
@@DaleFarm Nuffield are cool too. Also love Fergusons. But anything old takes my interest.
Amazing scenery
Wonderful tour, thank you. Your Dad sure looked extremely happy too.
Thank you Roberta yes dad loves his tractors 🚜
I say that was a good run in the old tractor, when I was young on farm we got a farm all off set ,might have to look it up sit off center, really old but did its job ,good to hear from ya'll be safe n dont go mad 😁🤠😉😀👋
Thanks David , we had a good little ride out. Would have been nice to have some sunshine ☀️
I have a little route I want to go on next time ❤️
love the tractor tour it reminds me when i were a kid with me dad on the farm keep it real
Thank you for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it
Nice tractor!
Thank you so much x
Excellent video - your David Brown looks and sounds great! The countryside is not bad either!
Thank you Charles it would be even better if the sun came out
Fantastic 👍 the big 😁 on John's face there's just something about going for a drive on a old tractor 👍
"will it start again?" naughty Joanne where is the faith?? Great to see the view's
Take care stay safe 👌 cheers 👍 🐜
Dad certainly loves his tractors, like a big kid! X
Great video as always
Thank you John x
You should try and do more videos with hear vintage tractor in it if you can
Love the old tractors,I have a 1951 Case vac row crop that is my baby.
Old tractors are fantastic
Another great tractor run from you and your dad, this time you didn't have to stand on the life arms
Yes it was better!! More comfy Hehe
Plenty of room in them cabs. And plenty mudguard to park your behind on. :)
Haha yeah I need it lol
Nice video Joanna!
Thank you jon x
Nice video Jo / John. Enjoyed seeing some of the Peck District and has made me more determined to visit in 2021. Hope you are all well , Cleers
Hey Alastair yes I hope you can get up this way 😎👋
Thanks for the. tour, Joanna and John ! Your Dad makes me nervous straining to look right and back while traversing a steep bank. A lot like North Yorkshire...lovely countryside.Tractor sounds great. BTW a new film of 'All Creatures Great and Small' is coming up here on Public Television soon.
Pretty cool
Thank you
That was fantastic, thx for taking us on a run with you and your dad, you both looked like you were having a great time but you both looked really cold, did the heater in the cab not work, or was it a bit draughty with no back on the cab, lol, the scenery once again Jo was beautiful, look after each other, keep smiling that beautiful smile of yours,
Thank you steve ... it was chilly in the cold wind
Heater in the cab you must be joking 🙂
@@johnshimwell9638 lol, I knew there wouldn’t be a heater,I saw the gaps between the doors and the windscreen just sitting on top of engine but I didn’t expect the cab to not have a back to it, lol you both must of been freezing John, I’ve just watched an old video of yourself and I think Nick driving some old trackers to a field, is that your collection John?, which is oldest / rarest?,, which one do you like best?,thx for chatting, keep smiling
Just found your channel. Love the DB885. I have the narrow version. Do you guys go to the Manifold Valley vintage machinery club?
love your hat your wearing
Thank you Russel I have had it for years I love it, it’s perfect for winter
Lovely sound out that tractor you’re dad what they say back in Ireland is one old stock lovely man you should write a book about his life and history of tractors and farming good to read I had uncle like him when he died I lot all the history of everything sad too
Hey Noel I don’t think I could write a book but i will keep making videos which in a way preserves some of the history doesn’t it x
We enjoy our 2 David Brown tractors,990,1210. Getting harder to get parts, fine machines. Wish ours had cab
The cab was a good choice today cos the wind felt very cold!!
👍 🚜
Enjoyed the videos shame the sun wasn't out do you mind saying the place you stopped I fancy going up there sometime can really relate to the place your dad pointed out
I've driven one of those on the road with a hay trailer on. When we got to the fields the 10 year old farmer's son took over (Health and safety gone mad) 😂😂😂👍🏼
Hahah that’s a funny story I love it
tour de tractor, some like the roar of a jet
It’s a great sound 😍
My dad used to drive a Davie Brown or Broon as we Scots say 😀
Hehe yes ... and highland coo!
@@DaleFarm aye ye cannae beat a helian coo 😁
the first thing to come off them david browns were the doors its hard to believe they make cars now like most of the car companys that made tractors lamborghini oporsche mercedes love the vintage workhorses
Oh really , I didn’t know that! Very interesting
Well now Joanna! 🤔
I could be wrong, but somehow I don't think that a tractor would be the choice of most people to use for touring the countryside, but heck why not, it works. 🐑
I'm glad to see that you have time between chores for a bit of relaxing and enjoyment!
No doubt each of the tractors on the farm perform certain tasks better than others and this next question is for John Shimwell:
What kind of jobs do you like the David Brown 885 the best for doing around the farm?
Hey Bill , well In non Covid times sometimes through the year, tractor enthusiasts meet up and do a tractor drive (we cal it a tractor run) and they go for miles in a big convoy sometimes more than 50 tractors and all
Raise money for charity xx
Hi Bill in normal times we do road runs often about 30miles and you see so much because you are higher we sometimes say if you did the route in a car it wouldn't be the same 🚜
Will it start she says!?! 🤪🤣 you of little faith Joanna haha. I guess this is the mischief you get up to when the sites closed, can’t blame you though 😊 x
Haha 😆 I have seen dad enough times get one out the shed and then it won’t restart, or having to pull one along with a tow rope to get a tractor to jolt into action 🤣🤣🤣 always fun
@@DaleFarm 🤣🤣 it’s all down hill, just give it a shove 🤪. Better it was lovely and toasty in. The cab as well 🤣🙈
Cracking vid 👍tell your dad.... take me blindfolded to a tractor and I'll tell you it's a david brown by gear whine .....😉😉😉😉we ran IH B275s on our hill farm back in the day cheers from dave..
That’s smart stuff! I wouldn’t know the sound hehe 😉 glad you enjoyed the video
X
They all did put a can on a red 880 most of the time we took the door off
@@johnshimwell9638 hi John many years since I farmed simular generation too your good self....but recently had opportunity to buy fordson major (bit of big tractor in the day !!!!!) but I'm city dweller now so not a lot of room on my drive ....so had to refuse...best wishes ..from dave..
Lovely to see the old girl still running well. Thanks for the trip John and to you Joanna perched precariously on the mudguard.
John. I’m guessing that tractor was made in the early 60s. I remember David Brown trying an automatic gearbox in one of their models. From memory, the gearbox wasn’t strong enough for the engine in work, so they never got very far with it. How many gears does that tractor have?
I’m not sure I willl ask the boss !! X
David Brown 885 - produced 1971-1980; 3 Forward Gears with 1 Reverse Gear, 4 ranges(LS, L, H, HS; H being the fasted / L being the slowest), so 16 gears total.
I thought we had narrow roads in the country but your roads are about half as wide as here and look like power steering depends how strong your arms are
Nice little tractor ride through the country. The road looked quite narrow. But a beautiful area it appears. I understand the UK is in Covid jail again .. sorry to hear that.. best wishes
Hey George yeah I’m fed up of it, it seems to go on and on. But I keep trying to focus on the little things to be thankful for xx hope you are keeping well
Bloody good show mr. John I will share this with my mom have you ever done a hayride Miss Joanna🐝🇬🇧
What’s a hay ride? Hehe on the hay trailer? If so, yes many many times ... great childhood memories
A hay ride or hay rack ride in America.. oh how do I explain it. ? It’s for the lack of better terminology a (country party) that can range from a very nice evening ( when children are present ) to people whooping and dancing around a bon-fire because they’ve consumed to many adult beverages.. but they always start out with a hay ride which is exactly what it sounds like. Square bales of hay on a hay trailer for seating being drug around by a tractor and it’s usually cold outside.. they can be a nice way to spend an evening or they can easily get out of hand
George Vangordon, you described it perfectly.
If only my 885 drove as smooth at that one 😢
Almost as good as my 1979 Deutz.
I can't remember the last time I saw a David brown with that much glass intact in the cab. Mechanically good tractors but the cabs always seem to fall apart
Thanks Keith , it’s my uncle peters tractor and I’m not sure the history of it
What size rear wheels are on her, Im looking to minimize the gap between the rear wheel arch and the tire, so im looking to fit the max diameter rear wheels as possible. Are they 28s or 32s rear wheels? they seem to be the type im after..
Hello Joanna would u drive the wee 885? David brown did a q cab version nicer to drive but unfortunately not as good for carrying passengers as that big weather cab on your dad's
I prefer the simple sounds of farming
Yeah very true x
I’ve have a dB 885
Hi what size front a rear wheels are you using?
Sure is a nice tractor. Humming right along. What's the top speed?
Hey Cindi I’m not sure, dad said we were going about 10mph
Hi Cindy those David Brown's weren't very fast 15/17mph not flat out today 🚜
@@johnshimwell9638 seemed a lot faster. 😀
The david brown looks faster on the road than my Dexta
Hehe slow and steady wins the race
@@DaleFarm slow and steady seams the story of my life Lol
Hi Digg I don't think so the old DBs would fly but the later models weren't the fastest but it's good fun
@@johnshimwell9638 I have happy memories of my family borrowing a David brown 1210 and later a 1212 with trailer to cart our annual firewood harvest. I have the dexta to do the same thing it’s up an unfair comparison but the dexta is not a patch on those machines
Spain is different.
Very,good,tractor,♥️🧲🙋💐
Never heard of a David Brown tractor. Non in the US as far as I know. 🤷🏼♂️✌️❤️
Hi Andrew British built tractor from 1940 to the late 80s many were exported to the US David Brown changed the colours for that reason think they were marketed by Bolen tractors 🚜
Old school, set the hand throttle, leave the foot throttle alone.
Yeah the 135 is the same which I drive ❤️
What the hell no auto steer hi sweets
Yeah!! Old school
Those David Brown cabs have got to be the worst designed cab on the planet - they definitely were NOT designed for humans to get in and out of!
That's so true might be ok when you are in your 20sbut for us oldies getting in is a work of art knew a chap who had a new 996 back in the day when asked if he liked his new tractor he said very much once I have managed to get in it
Could listen to your dad all day long jo lovely video you are well wrapped up for the cold nice tractor
