  • For the AE111 Levin and 4AGE fans. The old 1600cc 4AGE can still hold it's own against Toyota's current best little track oriented 4 banger. The first RocketBunny widebody kitted car had forced induction as well as monster track rubber.

They're getting a bit old tbh and most will need lots of maintenance. Most don't get it either because they're mainly owned by P platers these days. It's common for them to have a flat spot or miss when cold. Mine had it - coil failed tests, leads failed tests, distributor had oil in it. Replaced all those parts and kitted the dissy. Plus plugs and dissy cap and rotor.
O2 sensor is also a common fault.
They're also renowned for being tappety/noisy at idle. On mine this was caused by cam lobe wear. I'd say it's the case for most of them.
They're renowned for using oil as well, and that's concerning because they only hold about 3L from memory, so you have to keep a close eye on that.
Synchros are another common issue but pretty obvious when you test drive them. Mainly caused by people not using a GL4 oil imo.
Superstrut components are generally pretty worn out by now and are a little pricey to replace. Most people just convert to Mac Struts, which kinda ruins them imo.
Some parts like TPS are very hard to get now. I think they're NLA.
In all honesty, we're past the Goldilocks period for owning any 90s import. You're going to be up for alot of maintenance, and prices are going up now too.

Best find a garage kept or low milage one.
