A couple of things should be noted here.
1 - There is no way that " all " the companions were for the fight. In fact, most of the companions were there for the qureish caravan coming from Sham / Syria. Their interest and intention were the bounties in the caravan. Qureish confiscated " all " Muslims' belongings in Meccah and put them in the market. They were sold in Syria journey. Muslims were excited to " get even " with qureish.
So, when it came to fighting, most of them were not ready.
2 - It is very critical to mention that Abu Bakr and Omar were given a chance to speak before the battle. Each one of them spoke like an ambassador to qureish to the point that the holy Prophet got disappointed with their talks. Then, the prominent solid faithful sahabi Miqdad ibn_ul-aswad stood up and counter commented Aba Bakr and Omar together. That's how the holy Prophet got relieved.
