A properly restored version of James Cameron’s “Terminator 2 Judgement Day” as I heard the current 4K disc has too much DNR and odd colour choices. And while they are there, add The Terminator into a box set with it.

I disagree with some of these replies; I do think that the DNR, weird filters/colors, and other meddling of the T2 4K really does ruin it and make it look awful. I’m holding onto my Blu Ray because I think it looks better. Although there are *some* details in the 4K that *sometimes* look sharper, so that goes to show that the 4K *could* have been great if they didn’t ruin it!

There Will Be Blood, Eyes Wide Shut, Artificial Intelligence, City of God, Boogie Nights, Unbreakable, Doubt, Black Swan, Pleasantville, The Man Who Wasn't There, No Country For Old Men, and Oliver Stone's JFK
Thank you for mentioning The Fall. I forgot about this movie. I accidentally stumbled upon it on TV years ago and was sucked in and blown away by it. I really hope it gets the 4k treatment too

There haven’t been any good realeres on any media whatsoever. Although I have to check out the 4K of A Better Tomorrow). Any title with Takeshi Kitano where genus holding a gun at some point. Mutiny on the Bounty Moby Dick Kill Bill Double Feature (Japanese version). Nightmare On Elm Street
Scorsese could easily make a top 10 list: cape fear, gangs of new York, king of comedy, bringing out the dead, aviator, shutter Island, kundun, last temptation of christ and the last waltz woukd all look incredible in 4K. Love your list, here's mine: 1. Fear and loathing in Las vegas 2. Eyes wide shut 3. Velvet goldmine 4. Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind 5. The fountain 6. Sunshine (despite the 3rd act) 7. 3 colors by kieslowski 8. Wings of desire (at least on film with late Bruno ganz) 9. Dolor Y gloria 10. Lighthouse
3 Colors just came out in France ! I don't own the set yet, so I'm not sure if the films have english subs. But, as you probably know, 4K UHD BR play in every country, so...
*The best of youth *After Life *Blood in, Blood out * Metropolis *The French Connection * Amadeus * Ichi the killer *Grave of the Fireflies * The Road *Juan de los Muertos *Kung Fu Hustle Some of reasoning behind the titles was because some of them are only on DVD, OOP ,and would be an interesting choice to expand, rather than studios releasing films that are common, and what we've seen time after time.
Godfather 1 & 2, Heat, Insider, Any Given Sunday, Millennium trilogy, The Handmaiden, Bacurau, City of God, Howl's Moving Castle, Kagemusha, On the Waterfront.
*Tarantino all of them. *Sin City. *Minority Report *The Abyss *The Terminator, sure all of them too. I'd like to see the T2 SE get the treatment. *The Thin Red Line *Ghost in the shell 2, although that kind of exists. *The Last Starfighter *Pretty much everything good where the 4K has been exclusive to streaming. Like tropic thunder and Scott Pilgrim. Ooo Scott would pop and then pop some more. *Aliens and alien 3 AC *seven and fight club *Tank Girl *surf ninjas, I know that will never happen, but I want it. *Pink Floyd The Wall *A Hard Days night and Help *Tron movies, those will probably happen if they make the movie with Leto. *Turbo Kid *More Hitchcock, particularly the Jimmy Stewarts and strangers on a train and that one with the evil uncle. *Army of Darkness is coming. *superman 2 *star trek 1 to 6. *All of breaking bad and the movie. *Watchmen the show, and maybe finally a 2 disc version of the ultimate cut. *the friday the 13ths *the nightmare on elm street. *sympathy for mr vengeance *So so many more.
More PTA indeed! I would love The Master on 4K. That beautiful full screen 65mm look would be AMAZING in 4K. And well... Tree of Life of course. Like the movie or not, a 4K-disc would be GORGEOUS!!
I would love to see these films in 4K 1. Forbidden Planet, full restoration, HDR 4K box set 2. Indiana Jones 4K box set 3. The Thing 4. Aliens 5. Big Trouble In Little China 6. Enemy Mine, complete with the abandoned Iceland filmed version if possible or what’s left of it 7. The Abyss 4K box set 8.The Thing From Another World, restored 4K 9. Invaders From Mars 1950’s version, fully restored with 3D added (it was supposed to be filmed in 3D but no cameras were available) 10. This Island Earth
Here's my list Elliot: 1 - The Three/Four Musketeers (Richard Lester) 2 - The Devil's (Ken Russell) 3 - Day of the Dead (George A Romero) 4 - Bullet in the Head (John Woo) 5 - Tenebrae (Dario Argento) 6 - West Side Story (Robert Wise) 7 - Ong Back (Prachya Pinkaew) 8 - Anna and the King (Andy Tennant) 9 - Conan the Barbarian (John Milius) 10 - Tron Legacy (Joseph Kosinski) Very difficult to narrow down, as you said.
Very good list! I love Kubrick, but I’m slightly worried about a 4k release of Barry Lyndon: the standard bluray is quite fuzzy for the candlelight scenes. Maybe this is a problem with the original film but I really hope this can be improved for the 4k edition. Hoping to see an excellent Clockwork Orange transfer as well...
My Wishlist: * Akira Kurosawa Collection * Der Untergang * The Last Samurai * The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya * Narnia Trilogy * Home Alone 2 * National Lampoon Christmas Vacation * Pirates of the Caribbean Collection * American Pie 1-3 + Reunion * Rat Race
Great list Elliot! It took me some time, but I thought of some that'd I'd like to see: Fantasia (1940) The Haunting (1963) The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) In Bruges (2008) The Thing (1982) Ran (1985) House (1977) Andrei Rublev (1966) The Red Shoes (1948) Rosemary's Baby (1968)
10. Jacobs Ladder 09. Nosferatu (1979) 08. Stalker 07. Enter The Void 06. The Hitcher (1986) 05. Angst 04. Videodrome 03. Ms.45 02. 8 1/2 01. Lancelot of the Lake
Most of the films I'd like to see are not certain to be brought to 4k, but I believe they'd sell well considering the sales of their blu-ray releases: Zulu (1964) Cleopatra (1963) Doctor Zhivago Ben Hur Kingdom of Heaven Caligula (restoring this would be the toughest on the list, though) Then there are great documentaries that have either been filmed in 8k or mastered in 4k that would greatly benefit from a 4k release: Baraka (1992) Samsara (2011) Then there are the films that are inevitable: The Godfather I and II The Exorcist (no way this eventually isn't released, right?) Alien/Aliens Raiders of the Lost Ark And the one that never will: Sunshine (2007) I may be the only one that wants this, but I just think it would be stunning (the blu-ray release is very good, though). There are so many films without a good blu-ray release....but I got Cinema Paradiso in 4k, so that's a win for me.
Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala was shot on 70mm and doesn't even have a decent dvd transfer. That is my ultimate holy grail for someone to do a 4k scan of the original 70mm print.
I think its just me but I would love to have Avatar and Titanic on 4K. I was shocked to find out they aren't. The movies look brilliant on Blu-ray, don't know why there hasn't been an upgrade yet.
I just bought There Will Be Blood so it'll probably get a 4k announcement soon lol. I'd also love to see The Master in 4k, it's PTA's best shot film IMO.
Sign me up for Spirited Away on 4k! It's my favourite animated movie if not my favourite movie. There's so many shots in there that look amazing! I got the steel book that came out last year from gkids and need to get around to comparing it to the Disney Blu-ray.
I'd really love Lolita and Eyes Wide Shut get 4K releases - both of which have fairly unspectacular blurays and are two of my personal favourite Kubrick films that need more love. But honestly, I'm just all here for anything and everything Vinegar Syndrome releases on 4K this year - they're already off to a great start with Sexworld - which as far as I'm aware is the first porno to get a 4K release. I really appreciate them rolling out the red carpet for underappreciated films, and from Rad to Beastmaster, I cannot wait to see what else they have in store.
More than ten. Keep going with Kubrick, All The Godfathers, more Hitchcock, more Sergio Leone, The Abyss, T2 done proper, True Lies, Aliens, Paul Verhoeven catalog, all three of the Mel Brooks films you mentioned, The Last Picture Show, The Beatles' films, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Castaway (Nicolas Roeg's), anything from Tarentino, anything from Scorsese...and YES The Exorcist!
@@bazookatooth Okay, then I'll occupy the space behind you being second in line. It's indeed a crime not to give this cut a proper release on physical media. I do actually own the Japanese DVDs. Even though they're still two separate volumes, they do include scenes from the Whole Bloody Affair.
Barbarella, Zulu, The Man Who Would Be King, The Burglars, Blancanieves, The Thomas Crown Affair (original), The Beatles Yellow Submarine, The Warriors, King Kong (1976) and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. I think each one of these movies would look absolutely jaw-dropping in 4K.
Tombstone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Tron Legacy, Star Trek Wrath of Khan, Indiana Jones trilogy, Edge of Tomorrow, Pulp Fiction, & Megamind are just a few that immediately come to my mind
Good picks 👍 Among mine are: 1. Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) 2. A.I. Artificial Intelligence 3. It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (I think the Criterion disc is based on a 4k scan) 4. Aliens 5. Children of Men 6. The Iron Giant 7. Insomnia (2002) 8. Star Trek: The Motion Picture 9. Bad Day at Black Rock 10. Bullitt
I love that humour shone through more in this video. Seems very honest. Regarding some of your choices. For a Ghibli choice I think Totoro would make a more bankable option. Have not seen The Fall but I would love to see The Cell in 4k. Im sure more of Singhs work are stunning, Would love to see Tenebre from Argento. I would love to see True Lies, cmon Cameron, let it go.
Great to see The Fall getting a mention. Genuinely one of my favourite 21st Century films, and was described by David Fincher as "what would happen if Andrei Tarkovsky had directed The Wizard of Oz". Adding to your "vibrant, colourful" point, I'd have to add Yimou Zhang's Hero (2002) as a suggestion out there. Unlikely to happen, but wow, what a stunner.
Good call on Raging Bull and The Fall. I’ve been waiting years to see The Fall but never have as it is difficult to impossible to find on Bluray for any reasonable price but 4K would be amazing. My list: No Country for Old Men Fight Club Seven Samurai Last of The Mohicans Tree of Life Insomnia Inglorious Basterds The Departed Rain Man Vanilla Sky Cast Away The Truman Show (Bluray is cropped and picture is off) Dead Poets Society
Doctor Zhivago, Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, Fiedler on the Roof, Dirty Harry, Christmas Vacation, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mary Poppins, James Bond with Sean Connery & Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers just to name a few.
Great list, Elliot. Are ten - The Wild Bunch. Pulp Fiction. Amadeus. Ran. Seven Samurai. Sunset Boulevard. Blue Velvet. Zodiac. Children of Men. The Last Emperor.
Excellent choices...The Exorcist would be great on 4k around Halloween. I just hope they don't wait until it's 50th anniversary in 2023... I'd like to see more classics from the 60's and 70's on 4k... Bonnie and Clyde The Wild Bunch Midnight Cowboy Enter The Dragon The Outlaw Josey Wales Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid American Graffiti Badlands What's Up Doc Deliverance Superfly In Cold Blood Also Boogie Nights, Wild At Heart ( more Lynch generally)...Blood Simple, The Assassination Of Jessie James By The Coward Robert Ford, Betty Blue...
My List: Ben-Hur (1959) Casablanca The Chronicles of Narnia: LWW Hugo (my Scorsese pick, it's even about the preservation of film, and would be a 4K stunner) Indiana Jones trilogy (I know they'd throw in #4, but meh) Monty Python and the Holy Grail The Passion of the Christ The Shawshank Redemption Speed Racer (SUCH an underappreciated movie and perfect for UHD-BD) Titanic
There Will Be Blood has been at the top of my 4K wishlist for a while now, right along with No Country for Old Men. And since Raging Bull is my all time favorite film, I would gladly revisit that in 4K as well.
My list would be, in no particular order: Airplane! (Alought it probably won't happen any time soon since we just got the Paramount Presents 4k master bluray) The Austin Powers trilogy Scott Pilgrim Versus the World Little women (2019) My Cousin Vinny Tron legacy (I know it's disney, but a girl can dream) What about Bob? (I at least need a bluray) Coraline ( a great, very colourful film and very curious to see what stop motion would look like in 4k.) Perks of being Wallflower (the increase in quality might be small, but it's a top 5 for me so I had to add it) And of course Tarantino's filmography (my favourite being Django Unchained) I also really want Shawshank Redemption (my favourite movie), Raiders of the last ark, and The last crusade, but those are rumoured to be coming out this year already. I hope they're true.
Speed Racer is my #1 most wanted 4K Blu-ray hands down. The HDR would be GLORIOUS, even if it is just a 2k upscale. Also the movie is one I have very fond memories of and would love to revisit in the near future
1.Tombstone 2.Wyatt Earp 3.Open Range 4.American Sniper 5.We were soldiers 6. Ghost in the darkness 7. Legends of the fall 8.Jeremiah Johnson 9. Troy 10. Lawless
Off the top of my head, Gangs of New york, Kill Bill parts 1/2 and a 2 guilty pleasures of mine, A Knights Tale and Dragonheart. Agreed on Speed Racer, 4k hdr would be great, but might make you go blind. The atmos would be amazing.
1. Cool Hand Luke 2. The Hustler 3. The Jerk (WITH the scenes that are only on TV and Theatrical versions) 4. Frailty 5. Riding Alone For Thousands of Miles 6. Tokyo Sonata 7. Shawshank Redemption 8. Lion (2016) 9. Strictly Ballroom 10. Amelie
I would love to see a 4K box set of Wes Anderson films in 4K. That would be a great thing for Criterion to do - sure it would sell loads. Just thinking about how colourful his films are like The Darjeeling limited - they would really “pop” as you say. Keep up the great work - love the channel
Plus, as far as I know, Wes shoots all of his movies on film, which, if done properly, will make the remasters look significantly better than they do now.
I second William Friedkins 'The Exorcist' on 4K...such a masterpiece of the genre .... also that epic opening sequence in Iraq would look stunning too! I'd also love to see David Leans 'Ryan's Daughter' (1970) and William Wyler's 'Ben Hur' (1959) given the treatment 🙏🙏
1. All of Quentin Tarantino's Catalog. 2. Doctor Zhivago 3. Band Of Brothers 4. Dark City 5. Tron (1982) 6. The English Patient 7. The Dreamers 8. Brazil 9. The Departed 10. Contact Honorable Mentions Sunshine, Equilibrium, Europa Report, The Fountain
The other day I was looking at my Citizen Kane Blu-Ray and thought it would be great in 4K. Also, I looked long and hard to find The Fall on Blu-Ray (and succeeded, btw) and I agree this film in 4K would be astounding! Similarly, I think The Fountain would be fantastic in 4K. Having said all that - THE movie I would love to see getting a proper 4K release is Forbidden Planet. Years ago I had the original CinemaScope version of the movie on VHS. However, when it was released on Blu-Ray I sold or gave away the VHS. I regretted that move because the Blu_ray version was in anamorphic widescreen, thereby cutting off the extreme left and right screens of the movie. Grrr! In my research I found Criterion released the original CinemaScope version on LaserDisc so they would be a natural for a 4k restoration on Blu-Ray. However, since we are talking about 4K here, I am keeping my fingers crossed that somehow, miraculously this will be released on 4K.
Oh, I forgot to add to my list: North by Northwest, the original Planet of the Apes, Casablanca, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and lastly - any Ray Harryhausen movie possibly starting with The 7th Voyage of Sinbad or Jason and the Arogonauts.
This would be a better choice than Spirited Away, since Spirited Away was early 2000s digital animation (HDR would likely be the only benefit of having it on UHD) while Princess Mononoke was mostly (gorgeous) hand painted cels shot on film.
Scorsese would be Kundun for me. Fincher’s Se7en and Zodiac. Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart. Stone’s JFK, Chinatown, Night of the Hunter and finally everything from Paul Thomas Anderson. Boogie Nights would look great. Awesome list Elliot.
Nice picks keep up the great videos. I would like . last of the mohicans...highlander...The Exorcist...true lies...the krays 1990...The Great Escape...fight club...kill bill or any QT film in 4K...once upon a time in America....Pirates of the Caribbean That’s my 10 but would love loads more.
Thank you for the great video(Once again). My List would include: Samsara, Once upon time in the west, Once upon time in America, Thief, The three Colors trilogy, Valerie and her week of wonder, Sympathy for mr.vengeance/entire Vengeance Trilogy and braindead(Jackson)
I am in agreement with you on Argento’s Deep Red! Suspiria was given an outstanding 4K release by Synapse! Hope to see The Exorcist !(2023) would be 50 years though, who knows about that one yet, and Raging Bull, b/w classic! Would love to see Titanic! Two b/w classics come to mind that deserve 4K treatment! They are (1954) On the Waterfront, and the original King Kong (1933)! Both would benefit from 4K upgrades! Waterfront’s urban and dock side atmosphere, and Kong’s beautifully articulated glass paintings and textured prehistoric creatures would benefit most
My top ten needing the 4k treatment: Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, Fincher, and Fincher. Thank you for your time.
My list would be Raging Bull. Rocky 1,2,3. Blue Velvet. Indiana Jones trilogy. Barry Lyndon. The Godfather 1,2. Quadrophenia. Once Upon a Time In The West. Once Upon A Time In America. Mulholland Drive. Mean Streets. Gangs Of New York. The Terminator. Treasure Island (1950) A Fistful Of Dynamite.
This and Ethan being from England? I think. I don't know. But when I was a kid, I was over there and they called them TMHT. Because ninjas were bad. And they called Guyver, Mutronics.
In no particular order: - Aliens - Lost in Translation - The Exorcist - Fight Club - The Thing - Monty Python & the Holy Grail - The Fly - Pretty much any Ghibli - Birdman - Citizen Kane
One move that I would like to see in HDR is A Touch of Zen, because of the very dark night battle scene that would benefit from the better DR. If they can fix that scene, it would make A Touch of Zen a perfect movie.
I don't yet have any 4K hardware, but am looking into it, so some of the following suggestions might be ridiculous, but anyway - Metropolis Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (with its tinting included) Dirty Harry For the cinematography alone, some Terrence Malick films have to come on 4K surely Some Werner Herzog films (eg, Aguirre, Wrath of God; The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser; Stroszek; Nosferatu; and Fitzcarraldo) and for my 'Barry Lyndon' and 'The Fall' moments! Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid Reynaldo and Clara
1. Boogie Nights 2. Django Unchained 3. The Master 4. Koyaanisqatsi (1982) 5. Eyes Wide Shut 6. Point Break (1991) 7. Magnolia 8. There Will Be Blood 9. Blood in Blood Out 10. Pulp Fiction
100% agree with There Will Be Blood getting a 4k release. I would love for The Master to get a 4k release, that 65mm cinematography would look excellent in 4k w/ hdr
My list; 1 pulp fiction 2 bottle rocket 3 the outlaw josey Wales 4 the godfather 5 seven years in Tibet 6 carrie 7 moby dick 8 the green mile 9 the talented Mr Ripley 10 life of Brian
Where to begin: the thing, sunshine (danny boyle), live die repeat, apacalypto, reign of fire, tombstone, the last samurai, the silence of the lambs, blade 2 (just blade 2), solomon kane (love that movie)....i base this on, if i saw any of these on the shelf at a store i would buy without hesitation
The Abyss by James Cameron. It wasn't even released on standard blu ray disk. But it was confirmed that they working on 4k HRD version. Another one: Interview with a Vampire in 4K!
Thanks for watching this video and for subscribing to my channel. I appreciate you!
Drop your 4K blu-ray wishlist in the comments below!

@Torin Quinton No problem :)
Any naysayers of B&W films in 4K haven’t seen Schindler’s List or It’s A Wonderful Life on 4K UHD. Both are absolutely phenomenal transfers and look stunning!
Psycho, too!
I would love to see Seven Samurai get released. It was playing in 4K in Japan like 2 years ago.
I really want Edge of Tomorrow/ Live Die Repeat on 4K
Your videos are great Elliot!
Day 1!
There’s a 4K version on VUDU, but I’d definitely pick it up on disc.
yeah that movie is very underrated, imo
The following would be awesome in 4K! Life of Pi, Lincoln, Das Boot, Contact, Titanic, Avatar, Master and Commander, Ben Hur, Dances With Wolves, Hellraiser.
Life of Pi is already available in 4K UHD.
Wow. Thanks for the heads-up! Somehow I missed that. Ordering a copy today.
My wishlist in no particular order:
- There will be blood
- Dances with wolves
- Thin red line
- Barry Lyndon
- Almost Famous
- Apocalypto
- The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford
- Memento
- Seven
- The Searchers
Het there. Memento is part of the Nolan collection.

Hell yes! I adore Silence. It's criminally underrated.
A properly restored version of James Cameron’s “Terminator 2 Judgement Day” as I heard the current 4K disc has too much DNR and odd colour choices. And while they are there, add The Terminator into a box set with it.
I like the current T2 on 4K, it gets a bad wrap because Cameron wanted it to look as clean as Avatar, but it looks great imho.
I think the current release looks great and the restoration was overseen by James Cameron himself.
@@Prettytony0627 hmmm, maybe I will need to reconsider it then - I was just going on what I have heard from reviewers. Although I would love to have the special edition on 4K too

True lies

Indiana jones movies

Thank you for mentioning The Fall. I forgot about this movie. I accidentally stumbled upon it on TV years ago and was sucked in and blown away by it. I really hope it gets the 4k treatment too
If they can put out a flop like 'Mortal Engines' on 4K, then why not?
Pearl Harbour, Pulp Fiction, The Thing, The Thin Red Line, Aliens, Anchorman, Gangs of New York, Kill Bill, Sleepy Hollow and Django Unchained.

1. Fear and loathing in Las vegas
2. Eyes wide shut
3. Velvet goldmine
4. Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind
5. The fountain
6. Sunshine (despite the 3rd act)
7. 3 colors by kieslowski
8. Wings of desire (at least on film with late Bruno ganz)
9. Dolor Y gloria
10. Lighthouse
3 Colors just came out in France !
I don't own the set yet, so I'm not sure if the films have english subs.
But, as you probably know, 4K UHD BR play in every country, so...
*The best of youth
*After Life
*Blood in, Blood out
* Metropolis
*The French Connection
* Amadeus
* Ichi the killer
*Grave of the Fireflies
* The Road
*Juan de los Muertos
*Kung Fu Hustle
Some of reasoning behind the titles was because some of them are only on DVD, OOP ,and would be an interesting choice to expand, rather than studios releasing films that are common, and what we've seen time after time.
Aliens, Warriors, Exorcist, Indiana Jones come to mind :)
Alien 2,3,4 will be released in 4K in 2021.
Love to see Friedkins 'The Exorcist' on 4K!
Godfather 1 & 2, Heat, Insider, Any Given Sunday, Millennium trilogy, The Handmaiden, Bacurau, City of God, Howl's Moving Castle, Kagemusha, On the Waterfront.
Heat comes later this year. I can't wait
Speaking of PTA, I would love to see The Master on 4K as well!
That would be a Day One Buy!
Yep, day one for me too!
Any 70 mm deserve a 4k treatment, the Master being on top of the list !
*Tarantino all of them.
*Sin City.
*Minority Report
*The Abyss
*The Terminator, sure all of them too. I'd like to see the T2 SE get the treatment.
*The Thin Red Line
*Ghost in the shell 2, although that kind of exists.
*The Last Starfighter
*Pretty much everything good where the 4K has been exclusive to streaming. Like tropic thunder and Scott Pilgrim. Ooo Scott would pop and then pop some more.
*Aliens and alien 3 AC
*seven and fight club
*Tank Girl
*surf ninjas, I know that will never happen, but I want it.
*Pink Floyd The Wall
*A Hard Days night and Help
*Tron movies, those will probably happen if they make the movie with Leto.
*Turbo Kid
*More Hitchcock, particularly the Jimmy Stewarts and strangers on a train and that one with the evil uncle.
*Army of Darkness is coming.
*superman 2
*star trek 1 to 6.
*All of breaking bad and the movie.
*Watchmen the show, and maybe finally a 2 disc version of the ultimate cut.
*the friday the 13ths
*the nightmare on elm street.
*sympathy for mr vengeance
*So so many more.
More PTA indeed! I would love The Master on 4K. That beautiful full screen 65mm look would be AMAZING in 4K. And well... Tree of Life of course. Like the movie or not, a 4K-disc would be GORGEOUS!!
Great video!
Does anyone else find Elliot's voice quite soothing?
I would love to see these films in 4K
1. Forbidden Planet, full restoration, HDR 4K box set
2. Indiana Jones 4K box set
3. The Thing
4. Aliens
5. Big Trouble In Little China
6. Enemy Mine, complete with the abandoned Iceland filmed version if possible or what’s left of it
7. The Abyss 4K box set
8.The Thing From Another World, restored 4K
9. Invaders From Mars 1950’s version, fully restored with 3D added (it was supposed to be filmed in 3D but no cameras were available)
10. This Island Earth
Here's my list Elliot:
1 - The Three/Four Musketeers (Richard Lester)
2 - The Devil's (Ken Russell)
3 - Day of the Dead (George A Romero)
4 - Bullet in the Head (John Woo)
5 - Tenebrae (Dario Argento)
6 - West Side Story (Robert Wise)
7 - Ong Back (Prachya Pinkaew)
8 - Anna and the King (Andy Tennant)
9 - Conan the Barbarian (John Milius)
10 - Tron Legacy (Joseph Kosinski)
Very difficult to narrow down, as you said.
My Wishlist:
* Akira Kurosawa Collection
* Der Untergang
* The Last Samurai
* The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
* Narnia Trilogy
* Home Alone 2
* National Lampoon Christmas Vacation
* Pirates of the Caribbean Collection
* American Pie 1-3 + Reunion
* Rat Race
Great list Elliot! It took me some time, but I thought of some that'd I'd like to see:
Fantasia (1940)
The Haunting (1963)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
In Bruges (2008)
The Thing (1982)
Ran (1985)
House (1977)
Andrei Rublev (1966)
The Red Shoes (1948)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
10. Jacobs Ladder
09. Nosferatu (1979)
08. Stalker
07. Enter The Void
06. The Hitcher (1986)
05. Angst
04. Videodrome
03. Ms.45
02. 8 1/2
01. Lancelot of the Lake
Most of the films I'd like to see are not certain to be brought to 4k, but I believe they'd sell well considering the sales of their blu-ray releases:
Zulu (1964)
Cleopatra (1963)
Doctor Zhivago
Ben Hur
Kingdom of Heaven
Caligula (restoring this would be the toughest on the list, though)
Then there are great documentaries that have either been filmed in 8k or mastered in 4k that would greatly benefit from a 4k release:
Baraka (1992)
Samsara (2011)
Then there are the films that are inevitable:
The Godfather I and II
The Exorcist (no way this eventually isn't released, right?)
Alien/Aliens
Raiders of the Lost Ark
And the one that never will:
Sunshine (2007)
I may be the only one that wants this, but I just think it would be stunning (the blu-ray release is very good, though).
There are so many films without a good blu-ray release....but I got Cinema Paradiso in 4k, so that's a win for me.
Aliens, willow, krull, clash of the titans, fright night(1985), sleppy hollow, the last of mohicans
Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala was shot on 70mm and doesn't even have a decent dvd transfer. That is my ultimate holy grail for someone to do a 4k scan of the original 70mm print.
I am going to light a candle for this to happen !
I think its just me but I would love to have Avatar and Titanic on 4K. I was shocked to find out they aren't. The movies look brilliant on Blu-ray, don't know why there hasn't been an upgrade yet.
Probably because James Cameron wants to oversee the tranfers, but he hasn’t got the time to do it. Maybe in 2027.
Haters of 4k black and white films have not seen Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. A ridiculous amount of detail is revealed within the shadows.
Props for including The Fall! I own it on DVD and I'm sure those vibrant colors and visuals would look even more amazing in 4k & HDR.
On top of my list are:
- The Thing
- Titanic
- Avatar
- Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
- Once Upon a Time in the West
It's shocking that The Whole Bloody Affair hasn't had a proper release yet. I'd be first in line no matter the cost
Titanic would be insane on 4k
Raging Bull is such a good pick! In the same kind of vein as Scorsese, most of Tarantino’s work isn’t on 4K and that’d be fun to have.
Tombstone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Tron Legacy, Star Trek Wrath of Khan, Indiana Jones trilogy, Edge of Tomorrow, Pulp Fiction, & Megamind are just a few that immediately come to my mind
Good picks 👍
Among mine are:
1. Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut)
2. A.I. Artificial Intelligence
3. It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (I think the Criterion disc is based on a 4k scan)
4. Aliens
5. Children of Men
6. The Iron Giant
7. Insomnia (2002)
8. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
9. Bad Day at Black Rock
10. Bullitt
I love that humour shone through more in this video. Seems very honest.
Regarding some of your choices.
For a Ghibli choice I think Totoro would make a more bankable option.
Have not seen The Fall but I would love to see The Cell in 4k. Im sure more of Singhs work are stunning,
Would love to see Tenebre from Argento.
My list:
No Country for Old Men
Fight Club
Seven Samurai
Last of The Mohicans
Tree of Life
Insomnia
Inglorious Basterds
The Departed
Rain Man
Vanilla Sky
Cast Away
The Truman Show (Bluray is cropped and picture is off)
Dead Poets Society
- There will be blood
- Funny & Alexander
- Spirited away
- Barry Lyndon
- Amadeus
- Fantastic Mr.Fox
- Taxi Driver
- Ben Hur
- The untouchables
- Ran
Doctor Zhivago, Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, Fiedler on the Roof, Dirty Harry, Christmas Vacation, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mary Poppins, James Bond with Sean Connery & Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers just to name a few.
Bit off topic, but I bought my first Criterion yesterday - The Irishman. The cover art is incredible.
Oh nice one, Jake! I do love that cover art as well :)
Great list, Elliot. Are ten - The Wild Bunch. Pulp Fiction. Amadeus. Ran. Seven Samurai. Sunset Boulevard. Blue Velvet. Zodiac. Children of Men. The Last Emperor.
Twister, True Lies, Django Unchained,
Terminator (1984), Titanic, Indiana jones series, Fight Club, Nightcrawler, & Pulp Fiction just to name a few.
Excellent choices...The Exorcist would be great on 4k around Halloween. I just hope they don't wait until it's 50th anniversary in 2023...
I'd like to see more classics from the 60's and 70's on 4k...
Bonnie and Clyde
The Wild Bunch
Midnight Cowboy
Enter The Dragon
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid
American Graffiti
Badlands
What's Up Doc
Deliverance
Superfly
In Cold Blood
Also Boogie Nights, Wild At Heart ( more Lynch generally)...Blood Simple, The Assassination Of Jessie James By The Coward Robert Ford, Betty Blue...
My List:
Ben-Hur (1959)
Casablanca
The Chronicles of Narnia: LWW
Hugo (my Scorsese pick, it's even about the preservation of film, and would be a 4K stunner)
Indiana Jones trilogy (I know they'd throw in #4, but meh)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Passion of the Christ
The Shawshank Redemption
Speed Racer (SUCH an underappreciated movie and perfect for UHD-BD)
Titanic
There Will Be Blood has been at the top of my 4K wishlist for a while now, right along with No Country for Old Men. And since Raging Bull is my all time favorite film, I would gladly revisit that in 4K as well.
Great video idea Elliot! Really enjoying it, some excellent pics so far
Thanks so much mate :) I always appreciate your support. I hope you're well!
Se7ven, kill bill 1 & 2, natural born killers, tron legacy, fight club, avatar, drive, a Christmas story, old boy(US and Japanese versions)
My list would be, in no particular order:
Airplane! (Alought it probably won't happen any time soon since we just got the Paramount Presents 4k master bluray)
The Austin Powers trilogy
Scott Pilgrim Versus the World
Little women (2019)
My Cousin Vinny
Tron legacy (I know it's disney, but a girl can dream)
What about Bob? (I at least need a bluray)
Coraline ( a great, very colourful film and very curious to see what stop motion would look like in 4k.)
Perks of being Wallflower (the increase in quality might be small, but it's a top 5 for me so I had to add it)
And of course Tarantino's filmography (my favourite being Django Unchained)
I also really want Shawshank Redemption (my favourite movie), Raiders of the last ark, and The last crusade, but those are rumoured to be coming out this year already. I hope they're true.
Wolfen, Samsara, Soul Kitchen, Blast of Silent, Fight Club, Baraka, Roadhouse 😁, EX Machina, Event Horizon usw
Shrek
That'll do, donkey
This actually is getting a 4k release this year!
Indiana Jones 1-3, The Great Escape, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inglorious Basterds, The Last Samurai, Million Dollar Baby, Unbreakable, Goldeneye
Speed Racer is my #1 most wanted 4K Blu-ray hands down. The HDR would be GLORIOUS, even if it is just a 2k upscale. Also the movie is one I have very fond memories of and would love to revisit in the near future
Roadhouse 4k "pain don't hurt"
1.Tombstone
2.Wyatt Earp
3.Open Range
4.American Sniper
5.We were soldiers
6. Ghost in the darkness
7. Legends of the fall
8.Jeremiah Johnson
9. Troy
1. Cool Hand Luke
2. The Hustler
3. The Jerk (WITH the scenes that are only on TV and Theatrical versions)
4. Frailty
5. Riding Alone For Thousands of Miles
6. Tokyo Sonata
7. Shawshank Redemption
8. Lion (2016)
9. Strictly Ballroom
2. Doctor Zhivago
3. Band Of Brothers
4. Dark City
5. Tron (1982)
6. The English Patient
7. The Dreamers
8. Brazil
9. The Departed
10. Contact
Honorable Mentions
Sunshine, Equilibrium, Europa Report, The Fountain
I wish we could get The Third Man on a 4k Disc. Studio canal already did a restoration.
I want princess monoke in 4K.
This would be a better choice than Spirited Away, since Spirited Away was early 2000s digital animation (HDR would likely be the only benefit of having it on UHD) while Princess Mononoke was mostly (gorgeous) hand painted cels shot on film.
Nice. I saw it and GITS in real IMAX a few years back with my brother
I think given what we’ve seen so far warner bros are committed to 4k Kubrick I would expect both Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut before too long.
Thanks for your list. I would like to find every good 4K still some months after it came out. It’s often very difficult to find some !
Thank you Elliot...nice list. I would like to see 'Aliens' and 'No Country for Old Men' and perhaps "Avatar' as 4K releases.
Sympathy for Mr & Mrs is coming. Oldboy already available.
Braindead would be great. Don’t know if there is a decent BD release at all.
Thank you for your time.
david lynch version of dune extended on 4k i would buy
My list would be
Raging Bull.
Rocky 1,2,3.
Blue Velvet.
Indiana Jones trilogy.
Barry Lyndon.
The Godfather 1,2.
Quadrophenia.
Once Upon a Time In The West.
Once Upon A Time In America.
Mulholland Drive.
Mean Streets.
Gangs Of New York.
The Terminator.
Treasure Island (1950)
A Fistful Of Dynamite.
I need a 4k treatment of the original TMNT film trilogy! please make it happen New Line!!
That would be awesome
I'd buy it
100% agree
This and Ethan being from England? I think. I don't know. But when I was a kid, I was over there and they called them TMHT. Because ninjas were bad. And they called Guyver, Mutronics.
What is tmnt?
I couldn’t keep a straight face when you started talking about Speed Racer 🤣
In no particular order:
- Aliens
- Lost in Translation
- The Exorcist
- Fight Club
- The Thing
- Monty Python & the Holy Grail
- The Fly
- Pretty much any Ghibli
- Birdman
- Citizen Kane
Verrry nice
One move that I would like to see in HDR is A Touch of Zen, because of the very dark night battle scene that would benefit from the better DR. If they can fix that scene, it would make A Touch of Zen a perfect movie.
I don't yet have any 4K hardware, but am looking into it, so some of the following suggestions might be ridiculous, but anyway -
Metropolis
Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (with its tinting included)
Dirty Harry
For the cinematography alone, some Terrence Malick films have to come on 4K surely
Some Werner Herzog films (eg, Aguirre, Wrath of God; The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser; Stroszek; Nosferatu; and Fitzcarraldo)
and for my 'Barry Lyndon' and 'The Fall' moments!
Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid
Reynaldo and Clara
The Lighthouse, Robocop 4K Arrow release, Alien boxset, Terminator 2 (but good), Theatrical cut of Miami Vice, Heat, and The Insider
1. Boogie Nights
2. Django Unchained
3. The Master
4. Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
5. Eyes Wide Shut
6. Point Break (1991)
7. Magnolia
8. There Will Be Blood
9. Blood in Blood Out
10. Pulp Fiction
100% agree with There Will Be Blood getting a 4k release. I would love for The Master to get a 4k release, that 65mm cinematography would look excellent in 4k w/ hdr
My list;
1 pulp fiction
2 bottle rocket
3 the outlaw josey Wales
4 the godfather
5 seven years in Tibet
6 carrie
7 moby dick
8 the green mile
9 the talented Mr Ripley
10 life of Brian
Where to begin: the thing, sunshine (danny boyle), live die repeat, apacalypto, reign of fire, tombstone, the last samurai, the silence of the lambs, blade 2 (just blade 2), solomon kane (love that movie)....i base this on, if i saw any of these on the shelf at a store i would buy without hesitation
The Abyss by James Cameron. It wasn't even released on standard blu ray disk. But it was confirmed that they working on 4k HRD version. Another one: Interview with a Vampire in 4K!
