Wrong, the highest UK temperature in 1983 was recorded at Heathrow and was 32.8C with a mean maximum in July of 27.6C

It got hotter in the following days, above 30 in parts of the Midlands by Monday or Tuesday.
@@pak8606 Exactly, we hit 34 or above in many years from 1940's through to the 1980s, in 1976 it was 36 degrees, nearly 50 years ago.
