No nightmare hell spawn? May I remind you that the 2nd phase of Sectonia's Soul in the True Arena is essentially just Sectonia's severed head with giant wings flying around while laughing maniacally? HAL hasn't lost their touch.

I never felt the extremely dark bosses they were out of place at all. Kirby is an entity of pure goodness. So it makes sense that the final boss would be an entity of pure evil.

Meh, Sectonia Soul Phase 2 is basically Marx Soul with a bit of Drawcia Soul from Kirby Canvas Curse mixed in. Once you know the context she's not too frightening, but I will admit that when you think a little, it is a pretty dour concept.

Kirby lore is fucking weird. They include the deepest shit (like that one planet in 64 being a sead version if earth or something) in this silly kids' game.
It's like they think "you know what? fuck kids!" everytime they idealize the lore and final bosses of these games.

Actually there is some interesting development history, according to current series director Shinya Kumazaki via Miiverse, both Kirby Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot were being developed within around the same time scale - and that elements focused on Triple Deluxe like motion controls were limited in Planet Robobot in order to keep the two titles from feeling the same, considering they run on the exact same engine and share many assets (Models, textures, etc.)

TheKahunaLagoona robobot was actually planned to be a direct sequel to triple deluxe funnily enough
Hence why it was within a similar time scale.

Ever notice how Kirby Final Bosses in general tend to be either sad, controlled or just creepy? You have the likes of Magalor and Marx who just use you for power, which winds up contorting them into their "Soul" forms of madness, you have Haltmann and Sectonia who became warped by outside influences to the point they forgot the reason of their ambition and only the craving for their end goal is left, then you got Dark Matter and Zero... inexplicable inclusion of blood and ghostly possession (that also warps Dedede's body enough to make his stomach a mouth. Let that sink in a bit) and even mutilation via eyeball tearing out of its bloodied body.
I think it's mostly to contrast the happy-go-lucky feel of the rest of the games, which are bright, colorful, and really might not be taken too seriously just due to the cuteness. So when you have stories of tragedy or visuals of horror, it's a stark difference that breaks the mold of cheeriness and you see beyond what you've known, there is darkness around. But you must rise over it so the dream land doesn't dissolve into nightmares that darkness brings.
You would THINK that such a concept would make Kirby a more resolved defender of Pop Star. But... Given that Dedede has turned from being an all-out jerk to a hero-when-he-wants-to-be (when he's not being a Boss), he's at least begun to see the light. MetaKnight doesn't attack you anymore, as he seems to have gotten a level of trust with Kirby, it feels like the only one who stays oblivious to the message of the adventures is... Kirby himself. While it's nice these things don't get to him in a way that ruins his character... they don't get to him at all. Is he so happy with his own view of things he just doesn't care? Or is he just so dense, it doesn't sink in? Child-like innocence is something dear to Kirby's character, but even a child remembers the experiences of something big. Dedede and MetaKnight have changed and for the better. But Kirby doesn't seem to get it. He fights back because he can. but he normally doesn't act unless whatever's happening effects him personally. He charged into Dedede's place over a piece of stolen cake! If that hadn't happened, would Kirby have even run into the Squeak Squad, let alone take them down? Then who'd stop Dark Nebula?
... Probably MetaKnight and thinking on it now, that would be pretty awesome.
I dunno, an alternate reason could be, he's seen Zero and Zero-2 and the bloody horrors they were, things he faces now are so tame by comparison, they just don't bother him 'cause he's had worse. xD; If you look at the older games, Kirby's SEEN some things, man.
About Squeak Squad, I think he would run into Dark Nebula anyway, he would just make it a bit *LA-A-TER!*

Yeah, children remember big things, but big things like that happen to Kirby all the time, so...
The answer is because Kirby IS the same type of dark matter being as Nebula. Only, instead of being formed from nightmares and horrible thoughts, Kirby was formed from the collective happiness and good wishes of planet Pop Star.
Also! Dedede's last actual boss fight that was actually his own doing (not being mind controlled/possesed) was Return to Dreamland iirc. It's heavily alluded to that he isnt meant to be a bad guy anymore, but a helpful rival.
Oh if you thought Sectonia's backstory was sad, just wait until the next game...

And then Planet Robobot came out, which further led my descent into pink puffball madness.

Considering how about HALF of the kirby games don't even use the traditional formula, it is hard to say what is a spin-off and what isn't. Mass Attack and Canvas Curse are definetly main series, though.

Kirby Triple Deluxe definitely passes Saturo Iwata's mantra for the
Kirby series, that anyone can pick it up, play it, and have fun. I never
needed a manual or a walkthrough to understand how to play the game. I
will admit that I consulted a walkthrough for some of the sun stones,
but it was only a couple or a few per level, and after looking them up
in the walkthrough, I thought to myself "Oh, duh, if I would explored
more on a second run through of the level, I would have found them." I
did consult the manual to see if I could understand the story. It wasn't
until literally the last stage of the last level that I saw any text.
The rest of the game you had to pick up story through pictures and
animations. Alas, though, the Kirby series is not known for deep story.
The lack of text reaches out to a wider audience, especially young
children. Not only is Kirby Triple Deluxe the best looking Kirby game
for handhelds, the game well implements the 3D by jumping back and forth
between foreground and background. The game also utilizes the tilting
ability of the 3DS. I personally think it found a good balance: Not too
much, not too little. Overall, good gameplay mechanics. I hope to see a
lot of them return in Planet Robobot.
The name "People of the Sky" at 11:34 reminded me of how the Na'vi call the humans the "Sky People" in Avatar.
I liked Mass Attack! Arguably my favourite spinoff (If you don't count Air Ride anyway) and the sub-games in Mass Attack are the best in the entire series bar maybe only the ones in Triple Deluxe. Plus, it's name is technically a pun here in Europe.

Also Kirby Triple Deluxe is my absolute favorite Kirby game. Tbh Planet Robobot was weaker than triple deluxe since it honestly set up the standards REALLY high for me in terms of story, music, and characters and PR didn't quite reach that standard.

@@jetlirlajqi6977 ive played both. for me, the robobot mechanic is pretty neat n a lot of fun, but triple deluxe upstages robobot in pretty much every other regard. do bear in mind that i have a huge bias towards triple deluxe tho, since it was my first kirby game n one of my all time favorites. so i encourage u to play robobot n compare n contrast on ur own :)
I think you need to replay those games because robot takes everything from triple deluxe and adds on to it

I find it nice that Kirby games are consistent with their lore and always find a way to connect in newer games stuff from older ones.
I never played Triple Deluxe since Planet Robobot came out.
Kirby Triple Deluxe was the first game besides Pokemon I played on my 3ds, thanks to this review and Chuggaconroy's playthrough, and I loved it. Thank you AntDude for helping to inspire me to play Kirby

Actually, it is. Look at the Wikipedia page, if Kirby Tilt 'n Tumble can be considered main stream then why can't Mass Attack?
I'm sorry but on the wiki (both wikipedia and the Kirby wiki) I do not see anywhere that this is a main game (it's even under the spin-off category)
But i can point out that this is the last "classic" Kirby game because of the new title style (the same used as the anime) and the overall Kirby design.
Maybe Mass attack is canonical but it is still a spin off because it doesn't play like the rest of the serie
Icare I understand your point and, personally, I myself consider Mass Attack a spin-off and I just wanted to put that out there. And it's under History in the Kirby (Series) page on Wikipedia.

You have to do the True Arena for the hellspawn final boss, Sectonia literally rips her own head off to try and kill you. (If you have trouble getting there just use Archer, it’s hiding ability is broken)

I actually bought a copy of this yesterday and I'm absolutely loving it. Nightmare in Dreamland was the last Kirby game I played so I was absolutely thrilled to find a cheap copy at Game Stop. Its so pretty and the Hypernova sections are a blast.

I love how mostly every Kirby game starts with Kirby living his happy life until something ruins it.
Kirby Triple Deluxe is what made me get a 2DS/3DS in the first place & ofcourse New Super Mario Bros 2 & Super Mario 3D Land back in 2014
I only played to the second world in Planet Robobot. Triple Deluxe kept me intrigued all the way through.
TopHatLucario dude you did the reverse of me. I actually did a let's play of Robobot, the Robobot I feel is a much more fleshed out mechanic than the previous power ups, plus when you get the wheel Robobot or the Mike Robobot the game is loads of fun.

Most of the soundtrack was very forgettable and the story was not so interesting to me. I 100% Triple Deluxe since I was so much in love with everything in the game but stopped playing Robobot after the Meta knightmare. I didn't care at all to 100% the game.
Ant if u see this remember that there is a hidden backstory to both the final boss again you just have to look Amat the descriptions of both the final boss and third boss in the true arena or for the third one the extra hard mode there's a HUGE plot twist with those things put together

Kirby: Triple deluxe is probably one of my favorite games. This was actually the first Kirby game I ever played and to this day is probably my favorite. Am I biased, yes, Is this still an awesome game, also yes.
(Referring to the ending of TD) And then robobot makes another twist that is very depressing
I think the reason they spaced out Dedede's eyes out is because of the console not being able to handle the close together eyes, similar to copy abilities not working with the mirror in the spooky houses

I found Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot fitting to be on the same console seeing as Triple Deluxe's theme was Nature and Robobot's theme was Industrialization.
Admittedly, I wasn't too fond of this game when I played it. Very few of the levels stood out to me, personally, aside from the awesome circus levels, and the Hypernova just felt samey every time I used them. It was a pretty boring power trip, while there were at least five Ultra Abilities.
That said, Robobot's Super Form outshines both Ultra Abilities _and_ Hypernova.

True. There were tons of new and interesting puzzles with the robot armor that couldn’t have happened in KTD or KRTD.
Final boss music of this game makes me tear up a little. It's so god damn beautiful it hurts :')

I just recently picked this up, along with Robobot. I only wanted Robobot at first, but someone convinced me to pick up Triple Deluxe while I was at it.
Now, by happenstance, I find myself watching this video, and I'm glad I got both! I do believe a Kirby marathon is in order!

I love how in kirby most new antaganists that stick around usually become good and even playable, like DeDeDe and Meta Kight. I like it because it not "just another bowser fight in a castle" kinda thing and each game has a new final boss, with meta knight and dedede often appearing as world bosses in clone form or mind control.
