Recently, my dad was over and I started watching the newest Steven Universe episode, he saw the intro and said "Really? How old are you?" I replied "Old enough to enjoy whatever I want." He liked that answer.
@Margaret Yankson In my late 20’s now, not that it matters much. My dad at least understands that animation isn’t only for kids, but considering how childish the Steven Universe intro looks, his reaction is understandable.
Kenpachi KFC Wikipedia says yes in Autumn, but the link is to a Kim Possible fan site. Interpret that how you will. If this IS true(probably not), I hope to high hell they use the original voice cast. LOOKIN' AT YOU XIAOLIN CHRONICLES!
Reiji Arisu They were originally, but Disney has delayed it indefinitely in place of another season of Dog with a Blog, and a new Disney sitcom coming out later this fall. I know. I'm trying to find a shovel to dig out of all this crap.
+The Protato Yes. No anime ever can be good. Every single anime is very terrible. You are clearly the master of what is and is not good, and we shall all bow down to you. /s
Indeed, my favorite scene to appreciate now as an adult is the chase scene from the Thief and the Cobbler. Richard Williams drew that whole thing by hand. Long before flash could have helped you. It's amazing every time I see it.
***** right..... because every anime has means of story telling. those stupid cartoons like the batman, transformers, 90's tmnt, voltron, GARGOYLES. they're just stupid.
thevideosinc Drop the sarcasm, wiseass. Im saying cartoons on a *majority* or stereotypical level. Theres that small minority of cartoons and anime that have actual meaning to them, from its themes to storytelling.
this video is a GREAT response to those who say animation is just for kids, anime fans are been saying this for years how animation is for everyone, and you said it in the most eloquent manner, respect man, i loved it :)
Exactly. Animation is just a form of story telling. Hell they MAKE cartoons for "mature audiences" and what not. Just all boils down to personal preference
I'm 24 and my girlfriend is 22 and we both love cartoons. My mom should watch this video. She's always hated cartoons. She's like Marge in the episode of the Simpsons when she tried to get Itchy and Scratchy canceled. She thinks lower of anyone over 16 who still watches it. So many years I've been shamed and yelled at for liking cartoons.
Poor guy. My parents always say I'm a "child on the inside" because I still watch them. I understand they mean well by it, but I don't think some of the anime I watch could be considered to be for children. I enjoy a good story and characters, regardless of visual styles.
I'm 23, and I feel you. I've started watching some of the cartoons I enjoy (aside from Korra or anime) when my mom's not home. If she is, I use headphones. Otherwise, my mom will bitch nonstop about me "not watching age-appropriate shows." ATLA, TLOK, and most animes are more mature, so she sees them as age-appropriate, but she doesn't understand me enjoying shows like Winx Club, because it's for a younger audience.
Also, I know that this thread is really old, but have you shown her Grave of the Fireflies per chance? If that didn't change her mind on the medium, I don't think anything will.
As a teen in High School it's feel like I'm always told that I'm too old to enjoy something like anime or E rated video games. I would always fire back with some thing like see that E it means EVERYONE not just kids.I think your never too old for anything childish if you act "grown up" all the time then that just being a boring stick in mud whose afraid of trying out something your not use to or "grew out" of.
I actually took that quote, and modified it for my own life... "A child pushes away childish things, as to appear as an adult. An adult clings to his childhood, using it to grow, and as to hand it down to his children." I use "his" here because I mostly apply it to my life, but Its mostly the "human He" that I'm using.
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” - C.S. Lewis
a little perspective with how cartoons are more work than they look, take a 1 second clip of the Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast where he looks up with a surprised expression, or the 1 second clip of him cracking a smile. while they are each 1 second long, they were animated in 1's, meaning it took up all 24 frames per second in that scene. After they were rough-animated, in between artists smooth out the movements, clean up artists erase unwanted lines, define the outlines, add all the details so that the work is cut out for the painters, etc. those 1 second clips probably took roughly an entire week to do each. quite a lot of work for something people say is for kids.
"Why write for children?" "I don't write for children." "You don't?" "No. I write, and somebody says: 'That's for children.'" I'd say you earned my respect, but you wrote 'Where the Wild Things Are'. I have no more respect to give to you, sir. You are awesome.
I know I superscribed to the right channel. I bet you those haters who says "Cartoons are just for kids", probably watch lazy written live-action shows or dumb reality shows.
Well actually I'm 12 years old now. But my main focus for skill is drawing and creating my own style. I hope to achieve drawing anime good too. My only thing i have a huge problem with is the hands and eye direction (in some styles of animation). I'm a decent drawer.masterjames622
Chell Johnson Well that's good. I also have a problem with the hands. The eyes are quite simple when you get used to the rules of them. Hope you get better later on. :3
Thanks :D Eyes are the first one i was able to get better at because i love so many designs of each . Maybe one day ill get better at hands :D masterjames622
My grandfather used to watch loads of cartoons before he passed. He specially loved Tom and Jerry, and he said they reminded him of when he was smaller. Now, every time I watch those I remember him.
i agree with you pan,if you're not doing what you love, then you're not really living, you're just dying very slowly, and if what you love is watching cartoons and talking about them with your friends, then so be it. life is like a dick, you can do whatever you want with it as long as it doesn't harm other people, and if someone thinks he/she can judge you based only on your concept of fun, then he/she can take a space shuttle and fly it to uranus.
I love cartoons and anime, they've been a huge part of my life and are what originally inspired me to become an artist and start drawing in the first place Adventure Time, Billy and Mandy, Courage the cowardly Dog, Dextor's Lab, Avatar the last Airbender They'll always hold a place in my heart. However as I've gotten older I've kinda realized that I've broadened the media I'm interested in. My tastes have changed over time and many of these cartoons have grown with me too. Shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe & Gravity Falls have shown me how insanely Deep these shows can be. But I also see no reason to limit myself to _just_ cartoons now, every kind of media from live action to CGI should be enjoyed for what it is
I'm…let's say I'm old enough to have been out of college for a while. I still watch cartoons, Western and Japanese. I've always loved comics and animation. Age doesn't change that. Here's a little Truth™ for kids reading this: In the real world, away from school & sports bars, nobody gives a shit what you watch as long as it doesn't interfere with your work. Why _should_ they care? Anyone who takes time out of their day to harp on it isn't worth your time.
"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”- C. S. Lewis
I needed this video a lot. I'm an animation fan, but sometimes the stigma of animation being "for kids" makes me feel bad about myself. I've never exactly been mocked for liking cartoons, but sometimes I fear that one day I will. I remember I actually went through the phase of thinking that I was too old for certain shows during my teen years(I remember dumping western animation exclusively for anime because I thought that's what I was supposed to do), but my appreciation for all animation started coming back as I neared the end of high school and now I appreciate a lot of my favorite childhood cartoons more than ever. I'm super blessed that my family is supportive of my love of animation, especially since I've decided that I would like to make animation my career. On a side note, if anyone ever gives you a hard time for liking cartoons, tell them that what you like is none of their business.
I'm 19 and I love animation! I first got into it when I went on band tour with my high school to Disneyland and we went inside the recording studios and played music from animated Disney movies and watched it sync up to the video and it was so cool! I realized how much thought and detail goes into animation and cartoons! It's such a long process and my favorite animated film is Tangled from Disney Animated Studios and HTTYD 2 from Dreamworks! They're just so amazing! Especially Avatar: The Last Airbender which is my favorite cartoon! It is so hilarious, the characters are memorable and amazing like Zuko, and the story is breathtaking! The Legend of Korra was good but I hated how it ended! Yeah, adults make the animation, it is targeted towards kids but they want anyone to enjoy it! My Aunt doesn't really like animation, I love her and she likes some things in animation but mostly thinks it's stupid and for kids but animation is not just for kids! Anyone can enjoy it and I mostly watch cartoons for the nostalgia feel because it's an amazing feeling! Sorry this comment is so long I just love animation and I want to be an audio expert in animation for my career! I just think it would be so cool!
+Shelby Dickson I'm an adult, legal and all (though not by much) who recently made a return to cartoons. I was used to seeing the internet being expansive about new shows, and enjoy them way beyond their demographic, and I wasn't judgmental in the least, but I wasn't particularly attracted either. It was "cartoons are your thing, movies are mine, everybody's happy." Till I actually sat down and watched a couple of the more recent shows. Now I'm pretty interested in cartoons as a medium, maybe because I don't know very much about that anymore. We don't watch them the same way as adults as we used to as as kids, of course - or for the same things. For instance, I know I'll now be fond of absurd humour and VA giving it their all, and as a lit student I'm now much more able to appreciate good dialogue! Maturing allows us to choose better - and by better, I mean that we know what we like. We can separate the cream from the crop, and only focus on the shows we're sure to get something (enjoyment, involvment, new discoveries, etc.) out of watching. So yeah, I think we need people like you out there. There's been several pretty good shows in the past years, at least from what I can tell, and that's because they've been made by passionate people who took animation seriously, instead of going 'let's get this over with. That's just for kids anyway'. Seeing people get inspired by them to perhaps contribute to creating shows for the children (and adults) of tomorrow is real nice.
It's also good to draw from life many artists start that way and get better over time many cartoonists do this good luck improving your skills just remember it takes time ,dedication, and imagination
I feel like everything said in this video can apply to comic books as well. All throughout high school I had people telling me "you're too old to be reading comic books", which made me kinda insecure about it. It wasn't until my first year of college that I started meeting people who are just as into the same nerdy stuff as I am. Anyway, awesome video!
Dr. Gundeath Punchface-enstein comics are not for kids and I agree with you because anarchy (SPOOOOOOOIIIIILLLLLLLEEEER) is jokers son after he raped a stripper
Cartoons are what makes you have a inner child in yourself that tells when nothing good is on time to watch cartoons, weather your young, teen, adult Your never too old for cartoons.I say cartoons are a way of life that gives you the power of Creativity.
This video couldn't have come at a better time in my life i am turning 20 in October and everyone in my family is telling me to grow up and stop watching anime and stop playing Pokemon and other "kiddy" games this video made me feel a whole lot better about who i am thank you rebeltaxi please keep up the good work.
Okay, you are officially a new addition to my list of heroes. I've seen rants like this posted everywhere, even tried to make one myself but I've never heard it put this well before. Thank you! Now whenever someone tells me to grow up because I watch cartoons, I can direct them to this video. Also, damn, your shading has gotten really good. I await the day you finally make your own series.
One last thing: anyone who responds to this video calling you an immature baby who needs to grow up pretty much proves everything you've said in this video is correct. I remember getting a response to my rant on this subject (No longer exists on the net, BTW) by saying everyone should be over this stuff by the age of 13 and that I'm a basement dweller who spends my entire life watching reruns of Arthur just because I had the balls of defend G-rated films/shows.
Animation is for kids... BAH! I've had a dream for a few years now. I've wanted to create an animated series that was dark, disturbing, gory, horrific, and told a story that made your skin crawl. But why would I choose animation as the platform to tell my very-adult story? Because animation offers so many possibilities. It's not just something for kids to look at, it's a style that allows for unique imagery. You can do things with animation that would look bad or just not right in live-action. Not to mention that, much like paintings, animation and the many styles thereof allow for a greater expression of the artist's vision. It allows for greater emotion, mood, and atmosphere since these things can be more easily conveyed by the visual style. What I'm trying to say is that animation is just as valid an artform as anything else. There are no rules, no commandments delivered from God himself, that says that a series of drawn images appearing one after another in rapid succession to create the illusion of a moving picture is something only children ages 2-11 can find any enjoyment or beauty in.
Im 18, and love watching cartoons and anime to this day. So much so that I've been periodically writing an anime I started at 5. Im working on going to school for it and can't wait to get that career started. I love cartoons and anime and I don't give a damn who dislikes me because of it!
If someone attacks you for liking cartoons (or anything for that matter), they're jealous of you. They never succeeded, and therefore they want to see you fail.
This girl told me one time.... Her: YOU CANNOT WATCH CARTOONS YOU SUPPOSED TO WATCH ANIME Me: Well,I don't give a crap. I love cartoons I don't care how old I'm . :'D I think Anime is Japanese cartoons tho. Haters gonna hate.
+epicesteban123 What are you implying? Most anime has higher budget than western cartoons. Also "porn", actually say 80% of the time has a better story than anything western.

I always like to come back to this video when people get me down about my passion for animation. Or make me feel bad for liking something so, "embarrassing" or "kiddish". It really fucking grinds my gears. Especially when the making fun of is being done by someone you love, it fucking sucks.
Yesterday I asked my dad to stop asking me "why i'm watching garbage" every time I watch cartoons. He watches WWE. I think it's kinda dumb, but I don't tell him every single time he watches! (he's a perfectly pleasant guy otherwise)
I've learned to accept that I'm a rather selfish person so I've stopped caring about how others view what I enjoy at age 17. My happiness trumps _everyone's_ judgement.. Its why I collect figures, watch porn, and enjoy any show I want. Even if I somehow unfortunately become a mother (which isn't gonna happen *ever*) I still wouldn't sacrifice the joys of my life.
BobbyCarillo Right on. Why be miserable to make others happy when you can be happy and they can miserable cause you won't submit! Its perfect science. Shadowfire285 Where do I know you from amigo? Honest question cause I forgets :O ***** 'sup guy from Prototype I meet a few days ago. Cliff Pierre Oh you caught me, women don't watch porn we just act in it. Just like athletes only play a sport they never watch any as that would stupid. You're a clever one boyo. ;3
george baum Yeah, but why stop watching what you like because another genre disappears? If what I'm interpreting he's saying is he won't watch scripted live-action because "ZOMG REALITIEZ IS EVRYWEAR!!" then not only is he missing a lot of good television, but he's missing it for something idiotic. I don't like the White House/CIA/conspiracy series like Homeland and Scandal, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stick my nose up to the majority of television because of one genre I don't like. That's just fucking stupid!
This is why I always look forward to your videos like a new episode of a cartoon every Friday nights at 8. Only on Ca....wait? Cartoons have always been my favorite pass time and the creators know we aren't too old for them. This is why I take the creators of these wonderful shows serious, because they take us serious.
I'm 30 and I still watch the cartoons I grew up with; Hey Arnold, Arthur, As Told By Ginger, Scooby Doo, The Fairly Odd Parents, The Flinstones (I could go on and on). I watch a cartoon episode everyday because it comforts me and makes me happy. My husband just told me he thinks I'm too old to still watch cartoons. Before he said that to me, it just seemed like a normal thing to do. So that's why I Googled "How old is too old to watch cartoons". This video made me feel better. Thanks :)
+The Childfree Curly Girl We would get along great. I watch cartoons daily, usually the ones I grew up with. I tend to go in cycles. I was on a Hey Arnold kick for a while and now on Ginger, I'll go through shows until I've rewatched the whole series then move to another. I've probably seen every episode of Hey Arnold, Ginger, Pepper Ann, Rocko's Modern Life and Doug ten times! lol I also find it relaxing and comforting to watch these shows. I dunno if it's just the nostalgia thing, yearning for a simpler time in my life, or if it's that the problems in the shows are generally resolved in 11-22 minutes (if not, only a couple episodes) and that gives me some peace. Or maybe it's just because they have good storylines. I also watch other cartoons that are more recent and a couple that are currently airing, so, who knows. Whatever the reason, I totally feel you on cartoons making you happy. And, just because your husband isn't into them doesn't mean you are too old for them. He can have his shows and you can have yours.
SunnysRoyalSkipper Wow, you wrote all my thoughts on cartons and yes, I go through cycles too! Lol. Right now, I'm on my Arthur cycle and I actually watch atleast one episode everyday! Before, it was King of the Hill (which my husband also REALLY likes) and before that, it was Ginger. I'm on my last leg of Arthur because I've seen almost all the episodes, so I'm probably gonna move on to Rug Rats or something else. Its weird people think is totally ok to watch Family Guy and other "adult cartoons", but its not ok to watch cartoons you grew up watching! Keep watching cartoons my friend, it does bring me back to simpler times!
The Childfree Curly Girl Totally agree! People are like "Did you see the latest Family Guy?" but then look at you weird if you say you were watching Nicktoons. Btw, I'm totally gonna watch Arthur now. That show is really underrated. It is really clever. And Rugrats is a total classic! Love it! So glad to have "met" someone that gets it!! :D
I always come back to this video whenever I doubt myself. I've been working hard to try my hand at animated videos and watching this always motivates me to keep going at doing what I love.
This is essentially what I tell people all the time! If somebody believes that others who watch cartoons or enjoy products marketed toward child appropriate audiences makes them a better individual....well they are not an individual at all. People who say such things are in actuality superiority complexed losers who are very insecure about what they watch and feel the need to limit themselves to close-minded thinking skills due to false preconceptions of maturity that their society dictates. In other words these people truly aren't grown up, ironically they are still quite childish.
Cartoons have never been just for kids. And you've hit the nail on the head. I'd rather watch cartoons then reality tv. Because at the end of the day, one goes and has thrown a fit, broke something, been a public nuisance, and has been a bad influence on the next generation. And the other one? Those are cartoons.
I'm 15 years old and I freaking love cartoons! I grew up with them and I still love them. Heck, cartoons even inspired me to become an animator and thank everything for that! Once a cartoon fan always a cartoon fan. Cartoons are the only thing I watch most of the times besides AVGN or Nostalgia critic. Animation is my love, my blood, and my everything!!! Animation forever!
Attack on Titan is just steam(more gas)punk Starship Troopers that turns slowly into a generic battle shonen. People mostly think its great because its SLIGHTLY more mature than most of its kind.
I love anime, I really do, but Attack on Titan is bad. I started watching it, and for the first time got my mother to watch an anime with me. First episode was great, and then it devolved. Now neither of us like, and she is sworn off of anime again. Thanks Attack on Titan, my parents and I almost bonded.
I remeber when I was around 13 years old and my mom told me: " When your going to stopweatching those characters for children?" Then I started watching more live action shows and less cartoon. Until this new guy at school who I befriended told me if I had seen [insert cartoon]. And I didn't want our classmates to know what we were talkin' about so I told him to lower his voice. He told me: "Who gives a fuck about them! They're always making jokes about how they watch "Maya the bee" or "Caillou", they don't have anything to criticize us for. " It sounds really basic but I feel like it's something I had to hear because to this day I love animation more than ever.
Granted there’s plenty of kids shows that almost seem designed to be outgrown or just don’t hold up like Peppa Pig and Veggie Tales, but oddly I find myself outgrowing things meant for ADULTS like the Hangover, Family Guy, Stepbrothers, Friends etc. yet I still find myself enjoying Spongebob and the Simpsons just as much as when I was a kid (if not more) and discovering great shows I sadly never saw as a kid like Animaniacs, Pokemon, Invader Zim, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time and Dragonball
As a 17 year old, I'm always made fun of for watching shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and the big one, My Little Pony. I'm made fun of even in my own house. But I really hope I can just tell people to watch this video, so everyone can stop bitching, and stop acting like they're better than everyone else just because they watch crap like Honey Boo Boo, Kardashians, and other shit. So THANK YOU REBEL TAXI.
I love this video. My mom is constantly trying to get me to watch "age appropriate shows," and it pisses me off. As far as cartoons went, shows like Avatar (and now Korra) were the only ones she deemed "age appropriate" for me. Cartoons were just entertainment for me, a way to relax. Watching Sofia the First is no different to me than watching NCIS. It's entertainment and nothing more.
The fact is you're never too old for a cartoon nor anime. If it's *NOT* a show that comes on a pre-school block/channel, you are never too old for it. There is no age limit.
For the longest time, I stopped watching cartoons and watched anime exclusively. Weather it was an attempt to make myself feel better or more mature It was dumb. What really brought me back was Adventure Time, the show was so good that it really got me thinking about why I stopped watching. Then I realized my choice to stop watching cartons was immature and that what anyone else thought didn't matter, I should just watch what I want and be true to myself.
I'm 18 years old and I'm graduating tomorrow, yet I will openly confess that Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki, Rebecca Sugar, Pen Ward and JG Quintel are a few of my hero's in the art world. I love Cartoons with a passion! When I go to Disney World its like I'm a kid in a candy store. Whether its shows that I grew up with like Rugrats early Spongebob, Hey Arnold, or shows from today like Clarence, Adventure Time, Steven Universe or Gravity falls. (Regular show's okay but I'm a bigger fan of the older stuff, when they were literally side stepping on the line between kid and adult.) They inspire me to make wonderful drawings. Same goes for anime, I also have made wonderful friends because of what I watch. (That's how I met my best friends one through anime and the other through our mutual love for Adventure time.) I'll end it on a quote from the 4th doctor. "What's the point in growing up when you can't be childish sometimes?"
From 0:15 to 0:19, that is the greatest use of an Ed Edd n' Eddy clip. You are totally right. Animation is for everyone, not just certain groups. Thank you for sharing this truth.
Beautifully said...why do I watch cartoons? to get away from all the reality of the world. Reality can sometimes be so boring and mundane, so why not watch something that's out of this world? Something that makes no sense, something that defies logic. Isn't that what cartoons were made for?
Lauren faust said quote on quote: "My little pony was meant for the whole family to enjoy" She acctually said, she didn't make it for a certain age group. Hell, gabe newell, the creator of steam, the largest gaming community on pc, is in fact a brony. Swoozie, one of the top 50 most subscribed people on youtube is a brony. He litteraly said in his video "life of a tv addict" that he was there when the season 4 premiere aired. He even went as far as saying, quote on quote "Bronies unite!" Many haters and trolls, belive that they are in the right, when often times, they are insulting many of their favorite people. And while being a brony didn't make them famous, hating isn't going to make one famous either. Much rather the opposite.
I like to watch cartoons and anime. But a lot of the people my age think I'm immature because of the TV shows I watch. If they would watch it they might like it as well.
since youtube became a steaming pile of shit i haven't posted one comment but i made the effort just now because i gotta tell you how great you are and how much i appreciate your videos. i have no idea where you find some of the old clips you use as tags at the end but the one in this video completely transported me back to my childhood for a moment. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! thx
You're never too old to watch cartoons. People like to say that they "grew out" of something when they lose interest in it. No, the only thing you "grow out" of is sleeping in a crib and being bottle-fed. When it comes to taste in entertainment, you don't "grow out" of anything. You just lose interest. I used to like watching WWE years ago, but I eventually stopped watching it because I discovered other things that entertain me to the point where I just forgot about WWE. But WWE still has a very large fanbase that consists of both kids and adults, so to say that I "grew out of it" is just stupid. Also, just because someone likes watching cartoons doesn't mean that it's the ONLY thing they like to watch. Not that there's anything wrong with that either. But I, for one, enjoy cartoons like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Powerpuff Girls and MLP:FiM, but I also watch live action shows like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy. If someone says that watching cartoons is immature and childish, then that person is either pretentious, boring, or both. People seem to stress too much on what it means to be an adult. Being an adult has nothing to do with taste regarding entertainment in media like music, movies or television. To me, truly being an adult is having the ability to think with rationality, logic and reason. So actually, a person who judges someone from the fact that they like to watch cartoons is more immature and childish than the one who he/she claims to be so.
I find it ridiculous that if Breaking Bad or Walking Dead are praised for being Live Action yet if they were animated films they would be condemmed as "cartoons". I hate this double standard. I am working on scripts for animated features that are mature and some appropate for kids and some for adults. BUT THEY WILL ALL BE QUALITY CONTENT.
I actually did a presentation today on this very subject! I study animation and was given just 10 minutes to rant about whatever I wanted, and I chose to talk about why adults enjoy stuff that's "just for kids". To be honest 10 minutes really wasn't enough, but I got to mention a lot of great shows that hopefully those who watched my presentation will check out (Courage, Hey Arnold, etc.) Thankfully when you're in a class of animators EVERYONE there watches cartoons and movies that are "aimed at children", so no one ever has anything bad to say about eachothers' tastes and we get to talk about all the things we liked about those shows and movies almost every day!
Wow dude.. I really needed this thank you.. I just turned 19 and for a while now my dad has been relentlessly making fun of me for still watching cartoons and anime and for still collecting pokemon merch. I don't even disturb him while doing so, I only watch them in my room. I tell him that animation and comic book illustrating is my career so naturally I would be drawn to it, but he just thinks it's a j.o.b. And tells me that I need to grow up. It also doesn't help that he sees me as inferior because I am female.
"Adults are just grown up kids, anyway." -Walt Disney
True true! Adults are just kids who have live longer than people younger than them. Adults are just kids with more experience, more leveled up.
@@aestaeticedits7998 Facts. Unfortunately, a lot of people deny that fact.
Yes
Recently, my dad was over and I started watching the newest Steven Universe episode, he saw the intro and said "Really? How old are you?" I replied "Old enough to enjoy whatever I want." He liked that answer.
Paul Dougherty your dad seems pretty cool...
Cool Dad, he sounds proud
@Margaret Yankson
In my late 20’s now, not that it matters much.
My dad at least understands that animation isn’t only for kids, but considering how childish the Steven Universe intro looks, his reaction is understandable.
OK dad how old are you judging me like a 5 year old
I mean the Steven universe intro can be pretty cringey for people outside of the loop
yes yes yes yes. you've hit the nail perfectly on the head! Great vid :)
have u heard the news that kim possible might get a 5th seasone
darrius lacy
Holy crap really?! My second fav read head super heroine is coming back?!
darrius lacy link
Kenpachi KFC Wikipedia says yes in Autumn, but the link is to a Kim Possible fan site. Interpret that how you will.
If this IS true(probably not), I hope to high hell they use the original voice cast. LOOKIN' AT YOU XIAOLIN CHRONICLES!

They were originally, but Disney has delayed it indefinitely in place of another season of Dog with a Blog, and a new Disney sitcom coming out later this fall. I know. I'm trying to find a shovel to dig out of all this crap.
"When Are You TOO OLD To Be Watching CARTOONS or ANIME?"
When you're dead.
exactly
+The Protato Yes. No anime ever can be good. Every single anime is very terrible. You are clearly the master of what is and is not good, and we shall all bow down to you.
/s
Doctor Insane What.... ass can be fantastic though?
When I die I want to be buried with my laptop and a DVD box set of Steven Universe, just in case
And, if there's an afterlife, I'll be watching them there, too.
You're never to old, as you get older the more you appreciate the idea that someone sat down and drew thousands of drawings to make them move.
Indeed, my favorite scene to appreciate now as an adult is the chase scene from the Thief and the Cobbler. Richard Williams drew that whole thing by hand. Long before flash could have helped you.
It's amazing every time I see it.
Oda Swifteye That scene just wows me! The fact that someone has the talent to make something so complex is as amazing as it looks on film!
Veronica Perez Indeed!
Yes!
Cartoons aren't a genre, Anime isn't a genre.
They're mediums of storytelling.
Only difference is that cartoons, not anime, have little to no means of story telling.
***** sorry. i though you were one of those people that says that any western animation is dumb. sorry for the sarcasm.
***** Oh really? So whats the story behind Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes? I know im saying classics here, but come on.
this video is a GREAT response to those who say animation is just for kids, anime fans are been saying this for years how animation is for everyone, and you said it in the most eloquent manner, respect man, i loved it :)
why not? i love this guy :)
Yeah anther youtuber I love commented on this great video I love you
Kids laughed at me because I watch cartoons
@@chloes385 Your more mature then them anyways
your never ever too old to be watching cartoons and if anyone says otherwise they are stupid
Yep.
:3
***** :)
Exactly. Animation is just a form of story telling. Hell they MAKE cartoons for "mature audiences" and what not. Just all boils down to personal preference
TheOmnitron12345 :) agreed
It just goes to show that more people need to see this video so that way they can have a better outlook on subject matter like this.
Yeah I should show this to my mom too.
Same here bro I sometimes have to defend my addiction to yugioh
“When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” - CS Lewis
I actually took that quote, and modified it for my own life...
"A child pushes away childish things, as to appear as an adult. An adult clings to his childhood, using it to grow, and as to hand it down to his children."
I use "his" here because I mostly apply it to my life, but Its mostly the "human He" that I'm using.
They judged you for liking anime? But I thought teenagers like anime.
same, i mostly watch kids shows, but i sometimes watch shows for an older audience like my hero academia.
When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
- C.S. Lewis
the answer is never. cartoon is an artform.
Da Lime Damn right.
True
So many people in my life need to see this video.
When I was 14, my aunt told me I was too old for anime.
If she says that to me again, I'm going to make her sit through Boku no Pico.
Profusion
I'd never do that for real :P
+ArtificialCabbage Which series were u watching to make her think that?
Show her Violence Jack: Evil Town. Trust me, she will change her mind after she saw that
a little perspective with how cartoons are more work than they look, take a 1 second clip of the Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast where he looks up with a surprised expression, or the 1 second clip of him cracking a smile.
while they are each 1 second long, they were animated in 1's, meaning it took up all 24 frames per second in that scene. After they were rough-animated, in between artists smooth out the movements, clean up artists erase unwanted lines, define the outlines, add all the details so that the work is cut out for the painters, etc. those 1 second clips probably took roughly an entire week to do each. quite a lot of work for something people say is for kids.
I noticed people who judge adults for watching cartoons are the same people who watch Jersey Shore, teen mom, the Kardasheans, Honey Boo Boo etc
and those shows are more cartoonly then the cartoons.
Malik Kelly And with less substance and shittier writing. And yes I said WRITING. Those shows are scripted as fuck. "Reality" my ass.
August Hussey thank you! someone had to say it!
Most reality shows suck like Disney channel, their shows are so cheesy but their cartoons are so much better like Gravity Falls and Fish Hooks
***** macbeth is in it. I am just saying.
In the end, we're all just watching flashing images on a screen waiting to inevitably die alone...
...I'm in the mood for some Littlest Pet Shop.
"Why write for children?"
"I don't write for children."
"You don't?"
"No. I write, and somebody says: 'That's for children.'"
I'd say you earned my respect, but you wrote 'Where the Wild Things Are'. I have no more respect to give to you, sir.
You are awesome.
I know I superscribed to the right channel. I bet you those haters who says "Cartoons are just for kids", probably watch lazy written live-action shows or dumb reality shows.
+Elijah Nutter you got that right
+Elijah Nutter "Dude, cartoons are just for kids." So that means South Park is for kids?
Marc Aquino Yeah, Metalocalypse is so for preschoolers, right? Lets watch more mature series like "Barney", at least it's live action.
Attack on Titan is too childish for me
***** That's cool, that's your opinion on the anime. Just hope you still give animated franchises a chance. If not... (shrugs)
Im 11 years old and seeing all these critics and reviewers on cartoons/anime has inspired me to become an animator when i grow up
Chell Johnson Good for you!
Chell Johnson If you're a 11 then I suggest practicing your drawing and style now. To be a good animator you first need to be a good Drawer.
21 and still watching cartoons. Also, I love that quote by Maurice Sendak. Animation is such a misunderstood and under-appreciated art form.
I'm 23 I'm still watching cartoons too bro
i agree with you pan,if you're not doing what you love, then you're not really living, you're just dying very slowly, and if what you love is watching cartoons and talking about them with your friends, then so be it.
life is like a dick, you can do whatever you want with it as long as it doesn't harm other people, and if someone thinks he/she can judge you based only on your concept of fun, then he/she can take a space shuttle and fly it to uranus.
Cartoons are what's inspired me to become a writer.
***** I like how cartoons tell stories, and I want to tell stories, but I want to have complete creator control.
***** I also can't draw worth a crap. Then again, neither can Matt Malerrio, and he created three shows for Adult Swim.
That's the great thing about writing. You can create the characters and worlds you want without having to be good at drawing.
Me too :p
same thing here
I love cartoons and anime, they've been a huge part of my life and are what originally inspired me to become an artist and start drawing in the first place
Adventure Time, Billy and Mandy, Courage the cowardly Dog, Dextor's Lab, Avatar the last Airbender
They'll always hold a place in my heart. However as I've gotten older I've kinda realized that I've broadened the media I'm interested in. My tastes have changed over time and many of these cartoons have grown with me too. Shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe & Gravity Falls have shown me how insanely Deep these shows can be.
But I also see no reason to limit myself to _just_ cartoons now, every kind of media from live action to CGI should be enjoyed for what it is
I was watching Kill la Kill in my classroom and some girl walked by and said "really cartoons? how old are we?"
I wonder if she saw Ryuko in "armor"
Show her Elfen Lied.
Or Higurashi no naku koro ni
I'm more concerned with anyone watching Kill La Kill inside school
Any person that says, "Mature people don't watch cartoons," isn't mature AT ALL.
When someone says I'm too old for cartoons, I ask them why they care.
+Soufriere Exactly!! If anyone is that concerned about your TV viewing habits, it says more about their life than yours.
Dude, every time I watch one of your videos I get this great nostalgia feeling... It really brings back a lot of memories from my childhood.
I'm a teen who still watches S1-S3 of spongebob regularly. Sue me.
That'll get boring pretty soon... give the new episodes a try..
Agreed there the only good ones
I'd like to take this man to court and give him a cookie!
SbTditdatdwt Yeah, I kind of agree. Maybe he should watch them only every once in a while.
SbTditdatdwt Well, maybe give him a list of the better episodes of Modern Spongebob.
One of the greatest videos ever made.
"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”- C. S. Lewis
I've watched cartoons my entire life. I never saw a reason to stop
Honestly age is meaningless in this situation , it should never stop you from wanting to enjoy whatever you watch.
It's good to like animation, but please learn to watch live action as well. Not everything you watch has to be a cartoon.
I do watch live action, I love watching live action movies, but I just love animation more!
+Shelby Dickson I notice mostly the old people are saying animation is just for kids
+Shelby Dickson I'm an adult, legal and all (though not by much) who recently made a
return to cartoons. I was used to seeing the internet being expansive
about new shows, and enjoy them way beyond their demographic, and I
wasn't judgmental in the least, but I wasn't particularly attracted
either. It was "cartoons are your thing, movies are mine, everybody's
happy." Till I actually sat down and watched a couple of the more recent
shows. Now I'm pretty interested in cartoons as a medium, maybe because
I don't know very much about that anymore.
I'll never be too old for cartoons! They're for all ages.
I'm about to turn 28 in two days and this has really cheered me up,great vid dude.
I watch cartoon (or anime) everyday for me to inprove my drawing skills to be a cartoonist
It's also good to draw from life many artists start that way and get better over time many cartoonists do this good luck improving your skills just remember it takes time ,dedication, and imagination
Good point :)
To old to read about characters who die all the time and to young to watch certain movies. Make up your mind, society!
Agreed
High school is just a shit hole in general.
Dr. Gundeath Punchface-enstein comics are not for kids and I agree with you because anarchy (SPOOOOOOOIIIIILLLLLLLEEEER) is jokers son after he raped a stripper
In College no one care what you watch, read, or play.
I'm 20 and watch Gravity Falls, there is no shame in that.
No shame at all, Pacifica. :)
Yes, all the Gravity Falls!
*****
lol
Wasn't it canceled? Or are they just making a new season? Its about the only good thing on disney nowadays.
lumpy1space2princess Season 2 starts August 4th. :)
Cartoons are what makes you have a inner child in yourself that tells when nothing good is on time to watch cartoons, weather your young, teen, adult Your never too old for cartoons.I say cartoons are a way of life that gives you the power of Creativity.
loved this one!
i really hate when people say that you are not "mature" or you are a kid just because you like cartoons
This video couldn't have come at a better time in my life i am turning 20 in October and everyone in my family is telling me to grow up and stop watching anime and stop playing Pokemon and other "kiddy" games this video made me feel a whole lot better about who i am thank you rebeltaxi please keep up the good work.
Who know its the people who hold on to desires of animation, games, and story telling that can lead to creative ideas in movies and shows.
You’re never too old to watch good cartoons. I’m 40 and I watch Spongebob Squarepants mainly because it’s funny.
23 still watching cartoons bro
"When are you too old to be watching cartoons?"
Is that a trick question?
'Cause the answer is always *never*.
Man, I LOVE the way you end your shows. Always brings a feeling of nostalgia and happiness
This girl told me one time....
Her: YOU CANNOT WATCH CARTOONS YOU SUPPOSED TO WATCH ANIME
Me: Well,I don't give a crap. I love cartoons I don't care how old I'm . :'D
I think Anime is Japanese cartoons tho.
Haters gonna hate.
I agree so much with you !
Anime is discount us cartoons and discount porn
+epicesteban123 What are you implying?
Most anime has higher budget than western cartoons.
Also "porn", actually say 80% of the time has a better story than anything western.
+Milky Each episode of most anime cost about $100 000.
Zayaan Nashrid thats way more than family guy or south park friend.
Who says an animation can't have a good story. Steven Universe disproves that completely.
WatchTheWorldBURN Steven Universe i freaking amazing, i dont know where you are coming from.
Luke Witzman I think you read his comment wrong.
***** sorry you r right
+Planet Deadwing actually it's for everyone according to the creator at least it's more proper rating would be E for everyone
JohnTheGreat7822 Nice b8.

Ah yes beautiful speech mister Kenchin Himura very beautiful speech indeed. ;)
When ever I see J.G Quintel I can't help but but imagine Mordecai standing there. He does a lot of voices on his own show.
I'm a full grown man, and I still enjoy watching cartoons. Screw the haters.
Oh, hey your here.
Amen bro I think the same my happiness over everything.
Hold on! A girl? That watches porn? Now I KNOW this is some type of conspiracy! Ya can't trick me! Unless you already have, gah, get outta my brain!
BobbyCarillo
Right on. Why be miserable to make others happy when you can be happy and they can miserable cause you won't submit! Its perfect science.
Shadowfire285
Where do I know you from amigo? Honest question cause I forgets :O
*****
'sup guy from Prototype I meet a few days ago.
Cliff Pierre
Oh you caught me, women don't watch porn we just act in it. Just like athletes only play a sport they never watch any as that would stupid. You're a clever one boyo. ;3
Totally agree with you 100%. Also love the avatar. :)
I'll quit watching cartoons when every single "reality" show is cancelled.
Isn't that...oddly specific?
CoolEric258 Can ya blame him?
george baum Yeah, but why stop watching what you like because another genre disappears? If what I'm interpreting he's saying is he won't watch scripted live-action because "ZOMG REALITIEZ IS EVRYWEAR!!" then not only is he missing a lot of good television, but he's missing it for something idiotic. I don't like the White House/CIA/conspiracy series like Homeland and Scandal, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stick my nose up to the majority of television because of one genre I don't like. That's just fucking stupid!
Ohhhhhhhhh. Now it makes sense.
CoolEric258 I know what you mean, but I didn't really mean to say it literally. Reality shows are going to exist rather I like it or not.
SunnysRoyalSkipper me too!!
You totally get me :)
look at it this way cartoons are art and art should be appreciated by everybody
Most people I know still talk about spongebob
watching cartoons first thing im the morning as a kid was a form of self care
I watch cartoons so much that I actually feel weird watching live action shows. Another great video Pan, keep up the great work.
Who else saw the name Ringo Starr when Yogi Bear appeared on screen? It's nice to see Pan keep up his own continuity like that XD
You sir are proving to be more of an animation guru by the month. :D
We are All Kids, we just Mature over time...
we just mature over time? who's we?

Im 15 and i still act like a kid (not in public too much but it shows when you play online with me
TheDerpyBrony What planet are you from? People here are ALWAYS whiny idiots. They just have jobs and maybe a family.
"Animation is art"
"AAARRRTTTT"
Haha that made me laugh to hard
if you think cartoons/anime are for kids, watch Attack on Titan, Black Lagoon, or Desert Punk or either of the Heavy Metal movies.
Attack on Titan is for kids
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Attack on Titan is just steam(more gas)punk Starship Troopers that turns slowly into a generic battle shonen.
People mostly think its great because its SLIGHTLY more mature than most of its kind.
I love anime, I really do, but Attack on Titan is bad. I started watching it, and for the first time got my mother to watch an anime with me. First episode was great, and then it devolved. Now neither of us like, and she is sworn off of anime again. Thanks Attack on Titan, my parents and I almost bonded.
Chandler Hull Try Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I think its better than attack on titan
theacp127 I know. That is one of my favorite series.
It sounds really basic but I feel like it's something I had to hear because to this day I love animation more than ever.
I'm 19 and all I think about is animation. It's something that I not only like but have a huge amount of respect for.
I'm 22 and still watch cartoons to this day no regrets.
I agree.I'm 18 and I still find time to watch cartoons whenever I'm not busy. Also Gravity Falls is my shit bro:)
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a while. Hats off to you.
i will never stop watching cartoons
I love this video. My mom is constantly trying to get me to watch "age appropriate shows," and it pisses me off. As far as cartoons went, shows like Avatar (and now Korra) were the only ones she deemed "age appropriate" for me. Cartoons were just entertainment for me, a way to relax. Watching Sofia the First is no different to me than watching NCIS. It's entertainment and nothing more.
Same here my mom and my sister always do the same thing to me
Adults are just big children.
The fact is you're never too old for a cartoon nor anime. If it's *NOT* a show that comes on a pre-school block/channel, you are never too old for it. There is no age limit.
Hey. Preschool shows are fun too you know😂
@@SportsFan838 Yeah NS
Dude, you're NEVER to old to watch and enjoy cartoons! I'm 22 and I still watch cartoons.
I'm 23 still watching cartoons
I just love that scene from the Fairly Oddparents. Thank you for ending the video with that, Mr. Pizza.
a great example that animated stuff that's rated pg and is not always for kids is " Watership Down"
From 0:15 to 0:19, that is the greatest use of an Ed Edd n' Eddy clip.
22 here, I still love watching cartoons to this very day.
Same here!
Fuck... I'm 19 watching MLP, Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents...
And anime... is generally made for teens and adults anyways
Same, 19 and still love animation!
Lauren faust said quote on quote:
"My little pony was meant for the whole family to enjoy" She acctually said, she didn't make it for a certain age group. Much rather the opposite.
lumpy1space2princess I absolutely love your comment!
I like to watch cartoons and anime. But a lot of the people my age think I'm immature because of the TV shows I watch. If they would watch it they might like it as well.
Hope Ledford Then they obviously never watched any of your favorite shows. They shouldn't knock it until they try it.
since youtube became a steaming pile of shit i haven't posted one comment but i made the effort just now because i gotta tell you how great you are and how much i appreciate your videos.
i have no idea where you find some of the old clips you use as tags at the end but the one in this video completely transported me back to my childhood for a moment.
To be honest 10 minutes really wasn't enough, but I got to mention a lot of great shows that hopefully those who watched my presentation will check out (Courage, Hey Arnold, etc.)
Thankfully when you're in a class of animators EVERYONE there watches cartoons and movies that are "aimed at children", so no one ever has anything bad to say about eachothers' tastes and we get to talk about all the things we liked about those shows and movies almost every day!
A great video as always, RebelTaxi.
Love your profile picture bro :)
Thanks lol. Nothing special, just found it on Google. :P
I love the Cartoon Network bumpers you add. It's good to see someone else appreciated them besides me.
every one should love art
Wow your dad's a jerk and a sexist.I don't even know you yet I feel sorry for you.
I'm 23 still washing cartoons
