A suave guy finds himself in a state transport bus when his car breaks down. In a bus full of villagers his attention is drawn to a striking girl. As he tries to make a conversation , the differences become evident. Will they be able to see each other beyond the obvious? Okay ladies, reality check: whatever happens NEVER, EVER get into a car with a stranger, no matter how cute the guy seems and no matter how romantic this film makes it out to be because in reality it’s downright dangerous. They could bring out the sequel to this film next year in which the girl’s dead body is found lying in a ditch on the side of the road nearby to where she got off the bus. Safety first, romance second. Listen ladies, if he’s a decent guy he’ll be happy to exchange numbers and then meet up with you in a public place, during daylight hours, where you can take a chaperone to hover in the background and you can feel safe. 🙏🏾

To people who are so concerned about her going with a stranger- she is a travel writer who has travelled the world. She has met people enough in her life and she has been travelling alone. She is a confident and matured woman with a pretty good character judgement. It shows in her attitude. She takes note of the tiniest of things. And anyway not all strangers are rapists.

I just happened to be told about this short movie KAAMAKHAA ,a couple of days ago , by a dear friend of mine called Karthikeyan. After watching ,I loved it so much that ,I strongly regretted not knowing about it all these over years !
Though it is a short film ,it has many layers to it ! The deeper most layer is the most important factor that attracts a boy to a girl unconsciously in their un married phase of their life..That is the "external looks" ,no matter how much one denies it ! ,( It is just my personal opinion ). Here ,both are good looking people. That of course doesn't play a big role , between two such intelligent people ,more than a bit of initial human physical chemistry ! What happens later is where the crux of the matter lies !
Due to a particular situation that arises along the journey of the boy ,the two accidentally happen to become co travellers in a bus sitting in the same row to start with.
Initially ,the girl on her own ,( as she would do it with any body !) spontaneously objects to the pawn spitting villager old man ,when he troubles the hero by spitting it right across his chest ,and advises him not to do it !
That gesture gets the boy interested in her to the extent of ,only "who she could be" ,and there he incidentally looks at the Hindi book she was reading ! That triggers the entire long intellectual debate between the two , about the attitude of people reading English and Hindi books on a journey ,and that beautifully ends in clearing the misunderstanding that people can have on both sides !
After that ,a couple of things happen..The hero cares to fix the damaged kite of a boy ,and brings a smile on his face..She is also impressed by it ..After all he would have done it ,not to impress any one !
All these occurences ,bring the man and the woman mentally close enough to realise that both were not egotistic and not the types who were judgemental ,as they had thought of each other during the earlier incidents !!
This subject of this story only shows ,how beautifully & mutually loving and respecting relationships can develop between a boy and girl randomly ( What a title KAAMAKHAA !) at any time and place ,despite the apparently opposite outward layers of attitude and behaviour people that they can naturally have ,initially !!
It has also shown that ,in the back drop of the later moments of time spent between them and certain occurrence of things ,how those layers automatically get dissolved to bring those two together !
Hats off to the content of the story ! My salutes to the crispy screen play and above all the most intellectually written dialogue which has ultimately nailed this movie in its deserved position .

I don't remember when I watched it for the first time but it's always been in my UA-cam download playlist for more than 3 or 4 years till now and it will remain here until they decide to remove the download option someday. It's one of my fav short films. No matter how many times I watch it , it always feels like I am watching it for the 1 time. Everything is amazing about this film👏 great work everybody👏💐

Manjari's acting has improved by leaps and bounds. She's never looked better. Loved her in this. I have rooted for her unspokenly since Mumbai Salsa. She was the soul of this short story. Harsh on the other hand was effectively real. Wish to see more of these two. Even better if on the big screen. Much love. :)

Just saw Sanam Theri Kassam recently😍& decided to check out Harshvardhan Rane's work & came upon this short film!! Simple & VERY sweet, and SHE stole the show!! She's pretty, acts well, but I just loved her personality in this film - Her self assurance, self confidence, her humility, & her daring to speak up against mediocrity & hypocrisy👌!!
This film struck a chord - I too find it ridiculous that people in India don't speak Hindi & think that's "cool" instead of ridiculous!! I do wish I spoke Hindi better, because grammar is SO important!! My mom taught me to respect grammar & often corrected my Hindi & English, (and laughed at my Gujarati) when I was a child. I also think English is important to know & speak well, since it is often the language of choice internationally. (Modi get with it!?) And I too have a problem with people who mispronounce basic words, & think it's ok - It's NOT!!
Long story short - I really loved this film!! Great direction, cast, acting & social message!! Such a simple but impressive script!! 🙏Namaste -✍From USA!!

Brilliant! It is more than a love story...so philosophical and so deeply touching. This film has power to tell a lot more than we can take, has many meanings. Loved Harshwardhan's performance and the simplicity of that actress. I think this short film can be adopted for a regular length movie!
