What about heat? Everybody talks about performance, but at what cost?? Heat and noise are a couple of things that are at or near the top of my list these days. Things like RGB? Not so much.
In fact, I'd love to see a short episode on tools and methods on minimizing the heat output / power input of a system. How low can a CPU be clocked and still have it work? Which desktop CPUs perform best at extremely reduced power levels? Is a fanless, 400W 7950X3D build even possible? Ok, maybe I'm getting a bit silly but hopefully you get the point. I can certainly appreciate the liquid nitrogen crowd but how about a similarly extreme effort in the other direction?

Just build something with efficient components and decent cooling. I believe I reached this goal with my current system (i5 12400, RTX 4070 and Noctua fans) and it's whisper quiet under full load - totaling at roughly 350w. If you run Noctua fans at a fixed low RPM they are inaudible and I'd recommend doing this instead of going fanless, unless you're in a specific niche like music & sound recording. But nowadays you can grab any Ryzen 7000 chip, run them on ECO mode ~65W - Gamers Nexus have a great video covering this

i'd like to thank Phil Spencer and the other xbox engineers that decided to limit the xbox series x to a gen 4x2... 2 effing lanes.out comes a 2230 with great speed, but we're still stuck at 2 lanes!

It's awesome that you're still on a GH-5. You managed to stick with Panasonic long enough for them to have finally attained good autofocus with their newer cameras. Never thought they'd actually finally get good autofocus lol.

Nice if some of the pro-level digital mirrorless cameras would include connectivity for portable SSD storage so that we could use the Lexar products being offered.

My main concern is the amount of heat that these things put out. I have one in an enclosure and it will sometimes crash though it only happens once every couple of months. Some of the enclosures have fans which I've heard helps.

Honestly, I'm less interested in raw SSD speed and more interested in capacity.
We're at the point of diminishing returns now for SSD speeds, loading 0.1 seconds faster is largely irrelevant.
But having an extra 3TB of storage of games on the same SSD would be amazing.
I want 4TB 2230 SSDs and for 2280 I want the affordability of 8TB SSDs to improve significantly.

It looks like a damn sd card or even micro SD card, but it's a SSD O_O, the normal cooling on high end PC's & laptops should do well on it's reduced surface area, in the same space compared to cell phone sized SSD & HDD's of years past ... It will allow laptops to be more portable & powerful, & PC's to go to 8k without burning the house down...maybe!?!

@@zechssiguro7476 NVMe slots are typically passively cooled on motherboards right now. Maybe we'll start seeing coolers for nVME boards at some point, This thing should be good at 2,230. I have a Gen 3.5 NVMe and it does get hot in the passive external enclosure. Mine is set up for storage rather than speed as it's only USB-C and runs around 800-900 mbps. Much lower than the rated speed.

M.2 2230 SSDs are nothing new. These have been around for a good few years now.
They don't really have anything to do with gaming at 8K. And they would actually be worse at cooling than their 2280 counterparts as it'll run the same wattage in a smaller area with less airflow and cooling ability.

same. but they use this size for the rog ally and many people have been upgrading them with higher speed ones. i'm using a western digital black ssd in my ally and have never had any issues with heating as the ally itself gets hot on turbo mode.

Slow memory still, it should be at least 2x of the previous generation, as the number is not the frequency of the memory itself, but its interface. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

    • @mdaymdaymday6
      @mdaymdaymday6 8 місяців тому +1

You mean CF Express being compatible with ancient Compact flash Cards? No. It's a completely different technology. It's named CF Express because the body supporting it is the CompactFlash Association. Old CF is (P)ATA based, CF Express is PCIE based; there is a dead CFast spec using SATA. All specs are not interchangeable. But if you mean CF Express PCIE4 on older CF Express PCIE3, yes, they are, just operating at PCIE3 speeds.

I guess the card-readers are at 10Gb's or worse at 5Gb's. So you cannot get the near the fulls speed of the CF cards. You need 20Gb's USB 3.2 2x2 or USB 4 at 40 Gb's.
    Sad.

@Lexar - I prefer heatspreader designs that cover the corners of the PCB but still leave enough room to press the latch should removal be needed. Old design wins between the two IMHO.

ddr is a term usually used in ram so it may be a fake.
it probably is pcie ram or ram for the wlan card slot.
although at 1tb it is not too far of a stretch to be genuine because a couple years ago storage that small at 1tb was fairly unheard of now it is becoming more common.
