I really admire DSP media for making a group like KARD. In this kpop age of clones, it is REALLY refreshing to see and HEAR something original, refreshing and unique...I am really loving the whole concept and what KARD is serving up so far.. Both of their releases so far have really met my expectations and this is only their pre-debut...I hope DSP media allows them to focus on giving up something of quality and different....KARD has it all...visuals, vocals, rapping, dancing...their music so far were catchy, lyrics were well thought-out, pretty nice choreo, excellent vocal chemistry between the singers....I really hope they try out different concepts and style once they debut so that more and more people will get curious and stay interested and I know they have the potential to pull it off...All they need is their company's support and especially of us, the fans and I think they would be incredibly successful....
Ashot Ukupnik so very true! I can't see them being mixed in with the other K-Pop idol groups. They seem to be in a league of their own and I love it. I love the sense of maturity I get from them. I feel like their company actually treats them like adults and gives them more freedom than what most companies allot their artists.

i feel like dancehall caribbean reggae vibe thing is really becoming a trend in kpop these days. That's what i love so much about kpop, that they're never afraid to mix in different styles and genres into their music, as opposed to westerb pop music where for a certain long period of time every song basically sounds the same
T J I agree! They really do mix the genres well and don't limit themselves to just one box which is definitely why I find K-pop more appealing these days than western music. Sometimes they attempt to break out over here in the west but majority of it really is the same.

for a group that hasnt even debuted yet, this level of music and presence and not forgetting, talent, they are really good. you can really expect them being one of the big groups in the future. dsp is smart. oh nana was a really good, dont recall is even better. no doubt. trailers were released early which made fans anticipate fr their comeback. damn dsp is on another level with promoting their rookies
I can honestly say, I've not been this excited about a rookie group, from an underdog company no less, since I first discovered BTS. Serious props to these companies like Big Hit and DSP for giving some amazing flavor and flare to K-pop, and not just the same old things we always here. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of current and new groups from the bigger companies who are releasing wonderful and very original music- but the whole sound and concept for this group is just so refreshing. I really wish them the best, I'm still hesitant considering the mess DSP has done with April. But they've really done something right with K.A.R.D, I sincerely hope they'll go on music shows soon!
Destes Yoyo I never said they weren't a big company. I'm fully aware of their history with SS501 as well as KARA, which I'm actually surprised you didn't mention, especially considering Somi's work with the KARA Project and such. But you can be a big company and still be an underdog. If we're being honest, DSP doesn't have nearly the pull and influence it used to, due to the disbandments and just some poor business choices they've made over the years. They just weren't able to keep up with the trends like other companies, and it definitely hurt them. That's one of the reasons why groups like April have been such a mess- I understand that yes, there are plenty of cutesy concepts out there right now, but the fact that April has been around this long (with their visuals and talents) and DSP hasn't gotten their foot in the door, that says something. Now with K.A.R.D, this is almost like a redemption song of sorts for DSP. That's why the look, the vibe and the overall sound is so strong. DSP still has money to make a great group, they just need to make better choices than they have in past years. That is what makes them the underdog- because they have to work to get back to that status they used to have.

That clearly is not the case now, given the status of their groups, as well as those they have lost over the years (like KARA, Rainbow, Sechskies, etc.) So at this point, they're not really at the point of damage control but they aren't out of the woods yet. There is clear potential with K.A.R.D, the international support is strong and getting stronger. But they need to work like CRAZY to get this group the support and recognition in Korea, or it's not going to go anywhere.
both bighit and dsp are no underdog company lmao. bighit had affiliations with jyp where they got the money at first (famous bighit artist before bts: 2am, they also had glam before even though they disbanded) . dsp already debuted kara before and already have a lot of money. if you want to talk about real groups with really new company: mamamoo, secret & bap, apink, bestie (even though they were once part of exid, they started with new company), b1a4, mblaq, 4minute & beast. those were the artists that had no sunbaenims in their company to look up to when they first debuted. those are the artists from a real underdog company. i'm not hating on bts and kard (cause i love all kpop groups!!!) but again, bighit and dsp were already not underdog company when both bts and kard debuted :)

This is so true. I mean, Koreans are more into the cutesy and bubbly kind of concept/taste in music. Remember when BST was released? People were streaming the MV nonstop, but once TWICE released TT, it gained views quicker than BST. You see, TT wouldn't do too well in America/Canada and in some other countries compared to BST because BST would be a hit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start a fan war, nor am I hating on any of the groups. It's just that to us international fans, this is the kind of concept/music we are used to and to Koreans, they may not be as comfortable with it. i feel like dancehall caribbean reggae vibe thing is really becoming a trend in kpop these days. That's what i love so much about kpop, that they're never afraid to mix in different styles and genres into their music, as opposed to westerb pop music where for a certain long period of time every song basically sounds the same
T J I agree! They really do mix the genres well and don't limit themselves to just one box which is definitely why I find K-pop more appealing these days than western music. Sometimes they attempt to break out over here in the west but majority of it really is the same.

I can honestly say, I've not been this excited about a rookie group, from an underdog company no less, since I first discovered BTS. Serious props to these companies like Big Hit and DSP for giving some amazing flavor and flare to K-pop, and not just the same old things we always here. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of current and new groups from the bigger companies who are releasing wonderful and very original music- but the whole sound and concept for this group is just so refreshing. I really wish them the best, I'm still hesitant considering the mess DSP has done with April. But they've really done something right with K.A.R.D, I sincerely hope they'll go on music shows soon!
trogdorthe8th actually, DSP was a big company before SS501 and Fin.kl disbanded. They are rival of SMent.
Destes Yoyo I never said they weren't a big company. I'm fully aware of their history with SS501 as well as KARA, which I'm actually surprised you didn't mention, especially considering Somi's work with the KARA Project and such. But you can be a big company and still be an underdog. If we're being honest, DSP doesn't have nearly the pull and influence it used to, due to the disbandments and just some poor business choices they've made over the years. They just weren't able to keep up with the trends like other companies, and it definitely hurt them. That's one of the reasons why groups like April have been such a mess- I understand that yes, there are plenty of cutesy concepts out there right now, but the fact that April has been around this long (with their visuals and talents) and DSP hasn't gotten their foot in the door, that says something. Now with K.A.R.D, this is almost like a redemption song of sorts for DSP. That's why the look, the vibe and the overall sound is so strong. DSP still has money to make a great group, they just need to make better choices than they have in past years. That is what makes them the underdog- because they have to work to get back to that status they used to have.
Destes Yoyo At this point, I think it would be fair to say that, back in the day of course, DSP in fact WAS a rival of SM Entertainment. That clearly is not the case now, given the status of their groups, as well as those they have lost over the years (like KARA, Rainbow, Sechskies, etc.) So at this point, they're not really at the point of damage control but they aren't out of the woods yet. There is clear potential with K.A.R.D, the international support is strong and getting stronger. But they need to work like CRAZY to get this group the support and recognition in Korea, or it's not going to go anywhere.
both bighit and dsp are no underdog company lmao. bighit had affiliations with jyp where they got the money at first (famous bighit artist before bts: 2am, they also had glam before even though they disbanded) . dsp already debuted kara before and already have a lot of money. if you want to talk about real groups with really new company: mamamoo, secret & bap, apink, bestie (even though they were once part of exid, they started with new company), b1a4, mblaq, 4minute & beast. those were the artists that had no sunbaenims in their company to look up to when they first debuted. those are the artists from a real underdog company. i'm not hating on bts and kard (cause i love all kpop groups!!!) but again, bighit and dsp were already not underdog company when both bts and kard debuted :)

People were streaming the MV nonstop, but once TWICE released TT, it gained views quicker than BST. You see, TT wouldn't do too well in America/Canada and in some other countries compared to BST because BST would be a hit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start a fan war, nor am I hating on any of the groups. It's just that to us international fans, this is the kind of concept/music we are used to and to Koreans, they may not be as comfortable with it.

+Liv S. exactly. Kpop fans take ships too far. They're doing their job! This is why they don't do mixed groups in Korea. Plus in korea women stan men they want to date and vice versa. Mixed groups don't look 'available' to the fans because they take ships so seriously.
That doesn't mean that they are not banned from dating each other. If they even have the slightest attraction toward each other do you think that they would come out right and publicly confess it. It is not about being professional it is about their feelings. Kpop idols date a lot in secret and we probably don't know anything about it. They might also just see each other as family.
