I had Embassy duty in the early 60s in South America every Embassy had at least 2 C47s to use at their pleasure ! Going over the Andes at over 10K feet was very painful having to pass around an oxygen tank until you got to lower altitude ! These were as ubiquitous as the “Jeep “ ! In the pacific “Cargo Cults “ would man these crashed planes hoping that the Americans would come back !

I always thought Douglas aircraft were shotty
As a pilot they have their pros and cons....Proven in ww2 and served Bush pilot's well for decades...They were tough and very reliable
