    Arranged by Daniel-Ben Pienaar
    M. 2 & 3 - Serenata & Scherzino
This performance is from an informal recital/masterclass at Columbus State University while on a Spring 2024 tour.
With music based on themes of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, the 1920 ballet Pulcinella is widely considered as the doorway into Stravinsky's move towards a "neo-Classical" style. Two years after the premiere, Stravinsky selected 11 movements and formed a concert suite...from which these selections are taken.
The music is elegant, with hints of sarcastic wit throughout. The character of Pulcinella is a traditional hero of Neapolitan commedia dell'arte.
